Cultivating in the Wizard World

Chapter 723 - 613: The True Bottleneck

Chapter 723: Chapter 613: The True Bottleneck

A hundred years may not be much in the world of Wizards, but to Jeming, these hundred years were particularly fulfilling.

Deep in the laboratory, yet another humanoid Daoist Soldier stood up from the experiment table.

Its form was more proportionate than the first-generation, with a dim silver-grey appearance, the color resulting from the mixture of several special materials.

The toughness of cold iron, the energy affinity of red copper, the agility of void silver, the heftiness of meteor steel, and refined gold as the foundation, melding the virtues of various materials into one.

Jeming stood beside the experiment table, and as he watched this newborn Daoist Soldier, he nodded with satisfaction.

Its body was engraved with dense arrays, not only including the offensive Fire Extinction Divine Light, the defensive Ruins Armor, acceleration with Void Step, tracking with Cause and Effect Tracing Technique, but also various auxiliary arrays: energy absorption, self-repair, environment adaptation, spiritual protection... everything one could need.

Every rune was the result of his relentless refinement and upgrade over a hundred years.

"Such a pity." He suddenly thought of something, shook his head, and sighed.

The production of the emperor nectar was too limited.

Though the concept of the moon grew stronger with each generation of Black Giants, the gathered Moonlight Power increased, it was still far from enough for mass production of emperor nectar.

Throughout this century, he had only managed to gather ten bottles. Ten Daoist Soldiers, that was the entirety of his century’s work.

If these were to be used as cannon fodder units, the quantity would be a bit too small.

Fortunately, Daoist Soldiers in the Incense Fire Divine Dao system were not meant to be mass-produced.

They were leaders, elite monsters, aces that could turn the tide of battle at critical moments.

Moreover, as long as Incense Fire Divine Power is adequate, Daoist Soldiers can remain immortal.

A smaller quantity isn’t a big issue.

More importantly, Daoist Soldiers can grow.

The first refined gold Daoist Soldier easily broke through the Seventh Level decades ago.

Jeming watched it climb up step by step from Sixth Level, from entering Seventh Level to Seventh Levels Middle Level, and now to Seventh Levels High Level.

Its efficiency in cultivating the Body Refining Technique even surpassed some Black Giant Priests.

At this pace, in a few hundred years, it might well touch the threshold of the Eighth Level.

"However, this is pretty much the limit of my current technical abilities." Jeming murmured.

After over a hundred years of research, he had completely integrated the biological transformation techniques from the Wizard civilization of the parallel world, the rune systems of the Wizard civilization of the present world, and the refining method of Daoist Soldiers from the Cultivation Immortality world.

To progress further requires deeper knowledge.

Knowledge concerning the essence of the soul, the roots of laws, and the foundational logic of life existence.

These things can’t be learned just from reading more books.

While Jeming was fretting, the door to the laboratory swung open.

A Black Giant Priest walked in briskly, the silver-white patterns on its body glistening under the light.

The moment he saw it, the troubled look on Jeming’s face vanished, and his eyes lit up.

"Is it completed?"

The Black Giant Priest bowed deeply: "Master, the space teleportation array in the grotto heaven is installed, successfully connected to the plane, and continuously tested."

Jeming smiled.

Its presence here was proof enough.

This meant a stable space passage between the grotto heavens within him and the Purgatory Sulfur Plane had been established.

The idea had been around for a while; it was just that he didn’t have a use for a space teleportation array before.

Because before every battle, he would bring along the most elite forces among the Black Giant community.

Bringing ordinary Black Giants was of no use, for low-intensity wars needed them not, and high-intensity wars meant sending them to their deaths.

But now it was different.

Because the Daoist Soldier system was complete.

The Daoist Soldier system, as a subsystem within the Incense Fire Divine Dao dedicated to combat, was meant not only for manufacturing elite Daoist Soldiers.

It could also bolster combat power within all followers in the Incense Fire Divine Dao, giving those ordinary Black Giants a qualitative leap in a short time.

More importantly, followers with this enhancement could be automatically transported back to the Incense Fire Divine Dao’s core area—the Purgatory Sulfur Plane—when nearing death.

Considering the Black Giant race inherently possessed an extraordinary ability to recover, as long as they were not dead, their injuries could rapidly heal within a short time.

Once the space transmission array was established, it meant Jeming could possess a truly "infinite army."

As long as the intensity of the battlefield did not exceed a certain limit, relying on the Black Giants’ healing speed coupled with the near-death transmission mechanism, this army could ensure an endless resurgence of combat power.

As long as the Incense Fire Divine Dao remains, as long as the Purgatory Sulfur Plane remains, his army would never really experience a reduction in size.

"Good job."

Jeming waved his hand, signaling for the Black Giant Priest to step down.

Silence returned to the laboratory; he sat cross-legged in front of the experiment table, his consciousness sinking into the Sea of Spirit.

Deep within the Sea of Spirit, the Ring of Truth rotated slowly.

Encircling it were several fine golden threads, each representing a law he had mastered.

The longest one, of course, was the Spiritual Qi Law he primarily cultivated.

Jeming looked at that golden law thread, sighed helplessly.

A century of study and research had finally bumped his law comprehension to fifty percent.

It wasn’t fast, but it also wasn’t slow.

The problem wasn’t here.

The problem was... he was stuck.

It’s not that the law comprehension couldn’t increase at all, but he could distinctly feel that after researching various aspects of knowledge to a certain depth, he simply couldn’t continue any further.

Those deeper, more essential things seemed like silhouettes behind frosted glass; he could perceive the shapes but never see the details clearly.

Jeming opened his eyes, directed his gaze at the newborn Daoist Soldier on the experiment table.

The reason he couldn’t continue improving the Daoist Soldier wasn’t due to lack of knowledge or textbooks, but rather that given his current wisdom, he couldn’t learn the deeper layers of things.

This was the bottleneck.

However, it’s not the bottleneck of the Wizard system; it’s the bottleneck of the Cultivation Immortality system.

In the Wizard system, improving law comprehension is all about the volume of knowledge. Even though he couldn’t conduct deeper research, he could continue to enhance it by exploring other subsystems within the Incense Fire Divine Dao.

But on the Cultivation side, his path was severed.

In cultivation, his Spiritual Power keeps growing, spirit keeps advancing, the physical body continues strengthening under the Body Refining Technique boost, seemingly endless.

But the Dao... he couldn’t seek any longer.

Leaning back on the chair, staring at the ceiling, Jeming smiled: "This... is the true bottleneck of the Divinity Transformation Stage."

Unlike the previous levels.

Every level from Qi Cultivation, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, to Nascent Soul had paved paths by predecessors for later generations.

Those artificially manufactured bottlenecks could be overcome, provided there were sufficient resources, appropriate cultivation techniques, and decent luck.

But the Divinity Transformation Stage was different.

Starting from Divinity Transformation, every step represented an exploration of the "Dao."

Exploring the Dao requires insight, talent, and that innate ability to perceive the universe’s myriad things.

This is akin to studying mathematics.

Some find it strenuous at junior high, some start facing challenges in high school, and some struggle with advanced mathematics in college.

But unless one is the kind of genius that’ll be remembered in the annals of mathematical history, every student eventually faces a bottleneck that they can’t overcome, or even comprehend.

The same applies to Cultivation.

There are those who, blessed with inherent wisdom, can achieve direct Dao accomplishment at just the Qi Cultivation period—what’s known as "enlightened immortality."

While others, even after leveling up through various means, ultimately get stuck in their quest for the Dao due to insufficient insight.

Experiencing his own growing Spiritual Power, mental faculties, physical strength, Jeming looked at the stalled lines of law in his Sea of Spirit, feeling utterly transparent within.

He was one of the latter.

Of course, Jeming didn’t look down upon himself; compared to other ordinary Wizards, he certainly qualified as a genius. But there are differences among geniuses.

Much like some who learn calculus at fourteen, undeniably viewed as geniuses by peers.

Yet in the eyes of certain master figures, those so-called geniuses have only just attained the qualifications to be deemed "human."

Doubtlessly, Jeming knew he wasn’t a once-in-a-lifetime genius.

And if evaluated against the average intellectual level of a Fifth Level Wizard, he was merely a "regular person" with good luck.

"Luckily..." Jeming stood, approached the window, gazing at the grayish-red sky outside, "predecessors in the Cultivation Immortality world have already paved a new path for me."

For his own path, Jeming had "prepared" long ago.
