Chapter 464: Chapter 230: Return Journey, Deke’s Dilemma
"Let’s call it a day."
Lin Mo and the others quickly collected the loot from the Demons, leaving the carnage behind as they departed.
The quest required a relatively small number of items, so their outing today was much smoother than yesterday’s. They had even gathered far more than they needed.
By the time they were finished, it wasn’t even noon.
This was perfect, though. If they headed back early, they should be able to arrive before dusk.
That was the advantage of having a carriage—and one pulled by Lord Level Demons, no less.
Before, trying to return to the city in just half a day would have been far too rushed.
The battles hadn’t been particularly difficult, so their Physical Consumption wasn’t high. After a brief rest, they set off immediately, beginning their journey back toward the forest entrance.
Compared to the journey out, the trip back felt much more relaxed. They didn’t need to worry about much, and their moods naturally lightened.
Of course, a certain level of vigilance was still necessary, but Shefilya naturally took care of that.
As they traveled, Lin Mo looked at the panel before him.
He had been using the Rapid Charge Fist Skill almost exclusively and had killed a good number of Demons with it, so, as expected, the Skill smoothly leveled up to Level 5.
"Skill [Rapid Charge Fist] Level 4 (100/100) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Rapid Charge Fist] Level 5 (18/180)"
Rapid Charge Fist was an Excellent Level Skill, with only one final Level left to upgrade.
Lin Mo took another look at his overall stats panel.
[Name]: Lin Mo
[Profession]: Warrior Level 8, Knight Level 4, Assassin Level 7, Mage Level 10, Priest Level 5, Ranger Level 5
[Attributes]:
Strength: 81 (+43 = 124)
Agility: 72 (+65 = 137)
Constitution: 49 (+38 = 87)
Spirit: 30 (+36 = 66)
Magic Power: 101 (+48 = 149)
Fire Element Affinity: 26% + 13% = 35% (after reduction)
Ice Element Affinity: 16% + 12.5% = 26.5% (after reduction)
Thunder Element Affinity: 12.5%
Earth Element Affinity: 12.5%
Wind Element Affinity: 12.5%
Water Element Affinity: 12.5%
Light Element Affinity: 12.5%
Equipment: Frost Dragon Scale Sword, Secret Silver Gloves, Hurricane Bow, Frost Cold Robe, Flame Ring, Peaceful Spirit Bracelet...
His Panel Attributes were absolutely stacked. Any one of his stats would be considered insane for a character of the corresponding Profession and Level.
However, the issue of his unbalanced stats was undeniable.
His Basic Magic Power was in a league of its own. Strength and Agility followed, which was fine, but his Constitution was lagging quite a bit.
But Lin Mo’s main focus was raising his Warrior Level—otherwise, his Mage Level would get stuck too. So for now, he couldn’t worry about improving his Constitution.
’Once both of these Professions reach Elite Level, I’ll circle back and work on my Knight Profession Levels...’
On the way back, they ran into a few more Demons. Acting on the principle that every little bit counts, Lin Mo didn’t pass up the free Skill Level practically delivered to his feet, putting it all toward the nearly-upgraded Rapid Charge Fist.
Once they were back at the entrance to the Forest of Serenity, they could finally relax completely.
Lin Mo retrieved the carriage from the stable. As everyone boarded, the intelligent Gale Horses pulling it naturally began heading toward Fajade City.
These two Lord Level Demons were already completely tamed.
That was no easy feat; not even an Elite Level expert could necessarily accomplish it.
But for the Auswiss Clan, it was quite ordinary; they had many such carriages. Even the Epic Equipment they were currently wearing came from the clan.
Lin Mo was extremely curious just how powerful this Imperial Marquis Clan truly was.
’If I get the chance in the future, maybe I’ll pay them a visit.’
The carriage traveled quickly, but thanks to a Stabilizing Array, there wasn’t the slightest bumpiness inside the cabin.
It was now afternoon. The return trip through the forest had taken a good deal of time, and a bit of fatigue had set in.
With the quest over and their tension released, it was easy to become drowsy.
Ali unapologetically rested her head on Lin Mo’s lap, finding a comfortable angle. On his other side, Feney dozed off, her head bobbing like a student in math class.
Unable to watch, Shefilya helped her, guiding the girl’s small, golden-haired head to rest on Lin Mo’s shoulder. Soon, Feney’s breathing became even.
Lin Mo leaned back against the soft cushions and closed his eyes to rest. Only Shefilya remained vigilant, watching their surroundings for any possible—well, any highly improbable—dangers.
The rest of the journey was uneventful, and they returned smoothly to Fajade City.
They arrived even earlier than expected, with plenty of time before dusk. After stabling the carriage at a shop near the city gate, the group headed straight for the Adventurer’s Association, intending to settle their quest while it was still early.
As expected, the afternoon was the quietest time at the Adventurer’s Association, and the branch in Fajade City was no exception.
They pushed the door open and entered. While there were still quite a few Adventurers in the main hall, the crowd was sparse compared to the morning and evening rush.
There was practically no need to queue. After waiting for the party of Adventurers ahead of them to finish their business, Lin Mo walked up to the same window where he’d accepted the quest yesterday morning.
"Hello, I’d like to complete a quest."
As he spoke, Lin Mo retrieved an enormous cloth sack from his Ring of Space, and a pungent, bloody stench immediately filled the air.
"Of course. One moment, please."
The clerk at the Adventurer’s Association was naturally used to such sights and smells, but when he untied the sack, even he was shocked by the astonishing amount of loot inside.
The surrounding Adventurers all looked over curiously. These were straightforward folk, not the type to hide their feelings.
"Holy shit, look at all that!"
"Badass, bro!"
"Did they wipe out a Goblin nest? It’s all ears... and it looks like a lot of them are from High Level Goblins."
"And their party doesn’t even look that big. That squad must be full of pros!"
...
Lin Mo paid little attention to the surrounding chatter; he couldn’t be bothered to care.
After a while, these compliments, which seemed to respawn like NPC dialogue, hardly registered with him anymore.
"Hey, it’s you, Lin Mo."
But an acquaintance suddenly walking up and clapping him on the shoulder was a different matter entirely.
Lin Mo turned to see it was the man who had helped him out when the guards at the entrance of the Lion Adventurer Group had stopped him.
’His name was Deke, if I remember correctly?’
’Back then, he and his companions had just returned from a quest. Following the usual Adventurer routine, he should be resting in the city for a couple of days.’
"What a coincidence."
Lin Mo nodded at him. "Looking for a quest?"
"Yeah, but I’m a little torn..."
"How so?"
