Chapter 472: Chapter 233: A 2000 Gold Excellence Scroll? Hitting the Jackpot (Part 2)

"Sir, what do you think?"

"His Qi and Blood are abundant, yet he also possesses even stronger Magic Power. He’s a very interesting young man, indeed."

"Then, should we...?"

The old man shook his head. "Forget it. We old-timers shouldn’t casually interfere with these young ones. Let the young handle their own affairs."

"Yes, sir."

Lin Mo wasn’t sure if he’d stumbled upon a hidden gem or what, but he had finally gotten his hands on the Priest Skill Scroll he wanted. In fact, he’d exceeded his goal, managing to get an Excellent Level skill.

All that was left was to find a Ranger Skill Scroll.

Compared to scrolls for the Priest Profession, Skill Scrolls for the Ranger Profession were much more common. He wandered through the underground market for about another hour before he finally spotted what he was looking for at a street stall.

Next to this Ranger Skill Scroll were many other scrolls, but the vast majority of them were fakes.

"Customer, see anything you like? My humble shop has a complete selection, with Skills for every Profession..."

"Just looking."

Lin Mo didn’t say anything more, feigning a serious inspection of the scrolls laid out before him.

He didn’t reach directly for the Ranger Skill Scroll. Instead, he picked up a fake and examined it closely.

"Can I open it and take a look?"

"Of course! My shop is honest with all its customers. Please, feel free to inspect them."

Lin Mo unrolled the Scroll. Judging by the title, it recorded a skill for the Warrior Profession.

It was convincingly written, looking for all the world like a real Skill Scroll with no discernible difference.

If it weren’t for his status panel, which could identify them, Lin Mo probably wouldn’t have been able to tell if it was real or fake at a glance.

Lin Mo put down the Scroll in his hand, picked up another one, and unrolled it for a look.

After he had done this several times, the vendor finally grew impatient. "Customer, have you found anything you like?"

"I feel like your wares are all rather mediocre..."

Lin Mo shook his head. "What about the price? If they’re cheap, I might consider it."

"Well..."

The vendor’s eyes darted about as he spoke tentatively, "I can see you’re an out-of-towner who just arrived. Even though this is just a small stall, I should still show some local hospitality. I’ll sell you these scrolls for a cheap price... How about 150 Gold Coins each?"

Lin Mo immediately frowned. "You call that a little cheaper?"

"Ordinary Skill Scrolls usually only sell for 100 Gold Coins, right?"

"Customer, that’s where you’re mistaken. Even among Ordinary Level Skills, there are differences in quality. Everything I have here is top-notch. I guarantee they’re more powerful than Skills you’d buy elsewhere!"

"Are you an idiot, or do you think I look like an idiot?"

Lin Mo rolled his eyes. "In the end, it’s hard to even tell if these scrolls of yours are real or fake... 80 Gold Coins each. Take it or leave it."

"This..."

Hearing Lin Mo’s words, the vendor was clearly losing his nerve, but he feigned calmness. He frowned in thought for a moment, then, as if making a decision that went against his very ancestors, he gritted his teeth and said, "85 Gold Coins. We’ll call it the price for making a new friend."

"Deal."

Lin Mo nodded, casually selected two scrolls from the pile, stood up, and tossed over 170 Gold Coins.

The vendor counted the money, then watched Lin Mo’s retreating back and laughed scornfully. "Idiot!"

"Lin Mo, are those two scrolls real?"

Ali asked curiously once they were a good distance away from the stall.

The Little Wolf Girl might have a straightforward personality, but she wasn’t stupid. She could guess that it was unlikely for all the scrolls piled up at these roadside stalls to be authentic.

Even in a major metropolis like Fajade City, Skill Scrolls couldn’t possibly be that commonplace.

"Yeah."

Lin Mo nodded. "These vendors probably don’t even know which are real and which are fake when they acquire their stock. A small number of genuine ones get mixed in."

This particular vendor was quite lucky, though. Lin Mo had just done a huge loop through the market, passing by at least a hundred stalls, but he had only seen fewer than ten real scrolls in total. And those were all for very basic skills like Slashing, Punching Fist, Stabbing, and Backstab—all of which he already had. For this one stall to have two genuine Skill Scrolls at once was like hitting the jackpot.

One of the two scrolls was for a Ranger and the other for a Warrior, both of which Lin Mo urgently needed.

The Ranger skill was named Rapid Fire, a Status Skill. The Warrior skill was Grasp, a damage skill that also had a control effect.

With his objective achieved, Lin Mo led the others out of the underground market. By now, it was noon.

They found a nearby restaurant for lunch, and afterward, they continued toward the plantation Lena had chosen.

This plantation was about seven or eight kilometers from their current residence, the Qingfeng Inn, which wasn’t exactly close.

But it couldn’t be helped. A place like a plantation, which required a large area of land, couldn’t possibly be located in a more prosperous district. The land prices were simply too expensive.

A distance of only seven or eight kilometers was already quite good.

Besides, there were small horse-drawn carriages for hire within Fajade City, so transportation wasn’t an issue. Although these carriages could only hold two people at most, that was enough.

The process of leasing the plantation went very smoothly. The business model for this kind of long-term operation was well-established, and the prices were relatively fixed. The negotiations proceeded as expected, and they signed the lease agreement.

For now, they only leased one plot of land, which was more than enough for Lena’s current needs. If the demand grew later, they could always expand the scope of their lease.
