Adventure: My Skills Evolve Infinitely

Chapter 487 - 238: Mire Worm and Magic Stone

Chapter 487: Chapter 238: Mire Worm and Magic Stone

"We’re currently about halfway through the Blackwater Swamp..."

Along the way, Deke kept watch on their surroundings while explaining, "The Demons active in this area are around Level 2-5. Occasionally, you’ll also run into a Low Tier Lord Level Demon like that Mire Slime we just saw."

The Adventurers in the party were now on high alert. This was nothing like the start of the mission. A powerful Demon could attack at any moment, so they had to be on their toes and constantly watch for any potential danger.

The convoy continued to press on at a relatively quick pace, but it was much slower than it had been in the morning.

It wasn’t that they were intentionally slowing down. The ground beneath them had just become increasingly muddy. The wheels sank several centimeters deep into the soft earth, forcing the horses to struggle against greater resistance.

This wasn’t an issue for Lin Mo, however. After all, the horses pulling their cart were Gale Horses. In fact, from the start of the mission until now, the two Gale Horses had been more or less Slacking Off, not using their full speed at all.

The vegetation in the Swamp wasn’t as lush as in a forest. Trees were sparse, but there were still some tall patches of grass.

These patches of grass were the primary focus of the Adventurers’ vigilance.

Many Demons could be hiding in the grass, waiting to ambush any prey that passed by.

As they passed another field of yellowed grass, countless eyes stared intently at it, not missing the slightest movement.

Only when the convoy had passed through the grassy area without incident did everyone let out a subconscious sigh of relief.

They weren’t so unlucky as to have a Demon block their path every single time.

Besides, with such a large group of people, even Demons weren’t foolish enough to attack recklessly.

However, just as everyone let their guard down, a glob of brownish-black ooze shot toward the convoy like a bullet.

’So fast!’

Lin Mo was startled and about to act, but at that same moment, Deke had already swung his Sword, dissipating the ooze with a wave of Sword Qi.

A veteran Adventurer really was a cut above the rest. Just when everyone thought they were safe, Deke had remained on high alert. That’s why, like Lin Mo, he had spotted the surprise attack the instant it happened.

"Where did it come from?"

"Holy crap, that made me jump!"

In contrast, the Adventurers under Deke’s command were a clear step behind. But after their reflexive complaints, they instantly snapped into combat-ready stances.

Lin Mo’s gaze fell to the ground before him.

The convoy was still moving, and as it progressed, something seemed to be tunneling through the muddy ground beneath them.

"Here it comes!"

The next moment, his pupils contracted. Boosted by the vision of his Eagle Eye skill, he clearly saw the thing burst from the ground.

It was a "worm" a full two meters thick. It opened its cavernous, toothless maw and lunged at the caravan.

It had clearly realized the Adventurers were not to be trifled with, so it targeted the ordinary folk of the escort.

The instant the creature appeared, Lin Mo was already in motion.

He was incredibly fast, appearing before the targeted carriage in an instant.

He swung his Sword, and a wave of Sword Qi sliced through the brownish-black ooze the creature had spat out. The two halves of the projectile splattered onto the ground, which immediately began to corrode with a SIZZLE as plumes of white smoke rose.

"It’s a Mire Worm!"

Deke shouted a warning, "Be careful! Its ooze is toxic!"

In truth, no reminder was needed. Everyone had already seen what it could do.

Deke’s brow furrowed. ’This trip isn’t going smoothly at all...’

Counting the giant Slime from earlier, this was already the second Lord Level Demon they’d encountered.

Normally, the frequency of encountering Lord Level Demons in the middle of the Blackwater Swamp shouldn’t be this high.

Regardless, since it had appeared, they had to deal with it quickly.

The convoy kept moving as the Mire Worm gave chase. Deke unleashed a wave of Sword Qi, attacking the creature.

But the Mire Worm cunningly dove underground, dodging the Sword Qi.

’Not good!’

Lin Mo immediately realized its plan and leaped from the carriage.

[Earth-Splitting Strike]!

He and his Frost Dragon Scale Sword crashed to the ground. The immense impact sent mud flying more than ten meters into the air.

The ground beneath his feet shattered, and black blood erupted from the fissure.

Lin Mo quickly cast [Frost Guardian] on himself, blocking the foul blood and falling mud.

Seeing this, Deke breathed a sigh of relief.

The Mire Worm had been trying to use the low-lying ground to attack the caravan from beneath. If it had succeeded, its massive body bursting from the earth would have taken out at least one carriage and the guards with it.

Thankfully, Lin Mo was here. He was fast enough, and his attack was powerful enough to stop it.

Deke could have produced a similar effect, but he wasn’t fast enough. Even after pinpointing the Mire Worm’s location, he likely wouldn’t have made it in time.

[Earth-Splitting Strike] Skill Level +50

’So it was a Level 7 Demon.’

’But for me, as long as I land a solid hit, it only takes one strike.’

The only troublesome parts were its ability to travel underground and its toxic ooze, which was what made the situation seem so tense.

He glanced at the current Skill Level of his Earth-Splitting Strike.

After that large 50-point gain, the skill’s current progress was Level 6 (112/300). It was a little more than half a Level away from reaching Level 7, the Full Level for this Excellence Level Skill.
