Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 303 - 274: Snoring

Chapter 303: Chapter 274: Snoring

Shazhou Beast Taming University. The infirmary.

After some basic treatment, Li Qian was already feeling much better.

It probably wouldn’t affect his military training the day after tomorrow.

As for Lu Tianjiao, thanks to his powerful Self-Healing ability, his injuries were already mostly healed by the time he even got to the infirmary.

He would likely be fully recovered by tomorrow night at the latest.

"Doctor, how is Mary?" Li Qian asked the female doctor who was bandaging his wounds.

Mary was the girl from the Gaochang Race.

Her full name was Mary Galoway.

The infirmary doctor had only found her name after looking up the student’s file.

And Lu Tianjiao, her ex-boyfriend, hadn’t been able to remember her name at all.

It was only after the attending doctor said it that realization dawned on him.

"Right, her name is Mary! Mary Margaret!"

Li Qian shot him a silent look, then turned his head away, pretending he didn’t know the guy.

The doctor glanced from Li Qian to Lu Tianjiao. "And you two are... to her?"

"Classmates?" Li Qian said lightly.

As he said it, he shot a strange glance at Lu Tianjiao.

Lu Tianjiao gave an awkward laugh. "Classmates, yes."

"Her condition is much more serious than yours, but her life isn’t in danger." The doctor gave Lu Tianjiao a long, meaningful stare before explaining.

"As long as her life isn’t in danger." Li Qian let out a quiet sigh of relief.

He had already gotten the gist of it from Xue Yuan, but hearing the doctor’s confirmation still put Li Qian’s mind at ease.

After a brief update on Mary’s condition, the doctor dismissed them. The two went to the lounge next door, where Teacher Xu was already waiting.

"Tell me what happened. The specifics," Teacher Xu said.

Li Qian pointed to Lu Tianjiao, who was sitting beside him. "Let him tell you. He knows the full story."

"Here’s what happened..." Lu Tianjiao didn’t hold back, spending about five minutes giving a rough account of the events.

His story was quite simple.

The guy had been the victim of a completely random disaster. He was sound asleep in his dorm when he was suddenly attacked.

He didn’t really know much more than Li Qian did.

After Lu Tianjiao finished, Teacher Xu suddenly added, "From what I understand, her dorm is in Building Four, and yours is in Building Three. After whatever happened to her, she didn’t attack any of the surrounding dorm rooms. She came straight for you..."

"Teacher, what are you implying?" Lu Tianjiao picked up on the hidden meaning in Teacher Xu’s words and grew annoyed.

’What’s he trying to say?’

’Is he suggesting what happened to Mary has something to do with me?’

Lu Tianjiao complained inwardly.

"Student Lu Ming, I’m not investigating a case. Please calm down. This is just a routine inquiry," Teacher Xu said quickly, trying to diffuse the tension.

"So, what is your relationship with her?"

Lu Tianjiao’s mouth twitched.

Li Qian jumped in to answer for him. "Ex-girlfriend."

Lu Tianjiao rolled his eyes at Li Qian.

’Who asked you to be so eager to answer?’

But despite his grumbling, he didn’t refute it.

It was a tacit admission.

The questioning continued for about half an hour, ending only when Lu Tianjiao’s expression grew impatient and he was clearly becoming angry.

The interrogation wasn’t entirely useless, but it was close.

But that was to be expected. According to Lu Tianjiao, they had broken up over two years ago. What could he possibly know?

After the whole ordeal, it was nearly three in the morning by the time Li Qian got back to his dorm. He lay on his bed, lost in thought.

What happened today was truly bizarre.

In fact, it wasn’t just Teacher Xu; he also wanted to ask why Mary hadn’t attacked the students nearest to her, but had instead made a beeline for Lu Tianjiao.

But he also knew that Lu Tianjiao was just as baffled as anyone, so he didn’t bring it up.

"Li Qian, you asleep?" Just then, a familiar voice called out from the living room.

It was Lu Tianjiao.

’Something was wrong with the guy. The school had arranged a room for him at the campus hotel, but he insisted on crashing here instead.’

’Then again, his own dorm was basically a pile of rubble and completely unlivable.’

"Not yet," Li Qian answered wearily.

"About today..." he began, then trailed off.

"Let’s talk about it tomorrow," Li Qian quickly cut in, not wanting to get into a long conversation with him.

’If they kept talking, it would be dawn before they knew it.’

Ignoring Li Qian’s interruption, Lu Tianjiao continued as if he hadn’t heard. "Today’s incident... it’s not that simple."

"Did you see it? Earlier, when we mentioned that bizarre, blood-red flesh worm, Teacher Xu’s expression clearly changed."

Li Qian didn’t respond.

Lu Tianjiao pressed on. "I’m sure of it. There’s definitely some hidden secret behind all this."

"Was there? I didn’t get a clear look," Li Qian said mildly.

"It was so obvious. Are you sure you didn’t see it?" Lu Tianjiao found that hard to believe.

Li Qian replied cryptically, "I saw it, and I didn’t."

Just as Lu Tianjiao was trying to figure that out, Li Qian added, "So, why do you think he didn’t tell us?"

His question immediately silenced Lu Tianjiao.

’Teacher Xu clearly knew something, so why didn’t he give them the slightest hint?’

His reasoning was actually quite simple. Li Qian knew it, and Lu Tianjiao had already guessed it too.

That was precisely why he had fallen silent.

’When you lack the strength, some things are better left unknown.’

’Curiosity killed the cat, after all.’

The living room fell silent. Just as Li Qian was thinking Lu Tianjiao had finally fallen asleep, his voice rang out again.

"Oh, right. You used today as a chance to ask for that Snow Race girl’s name. You’re not getting ideas, are you?"

Lu Tianjiao’s sudden question made the corner of Li Qian’s mouth twitch.

’The moment the crisis was over, this guy went right back to his usual self.’

Li Qian had no intention of responding and tried to drift off to sleep.

Out in the living room, Lu Tianjiao began his earnest, unsolicited advice. "I’m telling you, that girl... I know her. Well, I’ve heard of her, to be exact. You two have no shot..."

"She’s the daughter of the current Clan Leader of the Snow Race in Snow City. Hailed as the most monstrously talented genius the Snow Race has seen in a century..."

SNORE... SNORE... SNORE...

Lu Tianjiao was just getting warmed up, but at that moment, he suddenly heard faint snores coming from the bedroom.

Upon hearing the snores, his voice came to an abrupt halt. So all his heartfelt advice had been for nothing.

"That guy..."

He gave a helpless, wry smile, but he also felt a little relieved. It seemed Li Qian wasn’t interested in that chosen daughter of the Snow Race after all.

After all, he knew a thing or two about that chosen daughter of the Snow Race. Her background was complicated—far too much for someone like Li Qian to handle...

At least, that’s what Lu Tianjiao thought...
