Chapter 788: Chapter 774: Pink Puki’s Crisis
Mist enveloped Inanna, making it impossible to see her outstretched hand.
"Number Four? Can you hear me, Number Four?" Inanna tried calling through the Fungal Network several times, but received no response.
The unexpected events left her feeling somewhat anxious.
Although Lin Jun had warned her a little earlier, she and Number Four still couldn’t outrun the mist.
Moreover, this was Inanna’s first time entering the mist, leaving her to constantly wonder what she would encounter.
After a while, a cacophony of sounds came from afar.
Inanna followed the sound, and as the white mist slowly dissipated, it revealed stone walls on either side and a stone path underfoot soaked with sewage.
She seemed to be in an alley, and what unsettled her was the burnt and bloody smell permeating the air.
"Get out of the way! Woman!"
A man rushed over from the other end of the alley, his robe in disarray, collar opened, and under his arm he clutched a bulging package.
His face was flushed red, eyes wide and bulging; seeing Inanna blocking the way, he swung a hand abruptly aiming at her shoulder.
Before his fingertips could touch Inanna, her icy gown emerged, and at the moment of contact, frost spread from his fingers to his wrist, climbing up to his forearm.
Still in motion, his upper body was suddenly pulled off balance by the unexpected weight, causing him to fall at the alley’s entrance, flinging the package far away, its contents of gold, silver, and jewels scattering noisily.
As he fell, his arm, frozen into an ice block, snapped cleanly at the elbow, the ice shattering into several pieces upon hitting the stone pavement.
"My hand... my hand!" The man lay on the ground, clutching his half-missing forearm, his voice full of terror.
His cries attracted unwanted attention.
Two members of the Demon Race rounded the corner from the other end of the alley.
Leading them was a Lizardman with gray-green scales, clutching a short spear, with a horned demon following behind, carrying a machete at his waist.
Blood stains blemished their weapons, some not yet completely hardened.
They paid no heed to the gold and silver on the ground, but grinned, approaching the still-speechless man.
"Look at this robe; he must be a nobleman, right?" The Lizardman lifted the hem of the man’s robe with the tip of his spear, the fabric embroidered with gold thread, even richer than what Inanna was wearing.
"That’s just perfect," the horned demon said, circling from behind, and stomped on the man’s leg.
The man let out a scream, rolling on the ground, scattering the jewels even more.
The two demons picked up their weapons, striking him repeatedly, each blow intentionally non-lethal, as they reveled in the pleasure of tormenting him.
Inanna’s hand was already raised, magic power briefly condensed at her fingertips.
But she quickly realized it wasn’t real, just an illusion within the mist, a fragment of memory, making any action she took meaningless except to protect herself.
She turned away, avoiding looking at the still screaming man, and plunged deeper into the alley while still calling for Number Four in her mind, but unfortunately receiving no answer.
All along the way were fleeing, crying humans, and demons running amok, killing and burning.
Inanna had no idea where this place was.
She pushed open a half-closed wooden door and slipped inside.
The interior was simple, with a cold stove and an overturned wooden barrel under the table as if knocked over in haste by the fleeing owner.
She crouched in a corner, holding her breath to minimize noise.
But it wasn’t long before footsteps sounded outside; conversations in Demon Language mixed with the sound of sniffing noses.
The door was kicked open, banging against the wall and rebounding back.
The werewolf stood in the doorway, lightly sniffing the air, his gaze landing on Inanna.
"I knew it—it smells too clean to be a commoner." He turned and smugly raised his eyebrows at his companions behind him. "Look here, yet another noble lady."
Other members of the Demon Race crowded in from outside the doorframe, blocking the entrance completely.
On their faces was a look Inanna couldn’t quite understand—not greed, not lewdness, but more like a certain satisfaction of avenged hatred.
"Capture her and send her to the Marshal!" one demon said, stepping forward but halted by a horned demon reaching out to block him.
When the horned demon raised his arm, his sleeve fell, revealing a twisted slave brand on the inside of his forearm.
He smirked at Inanna, saying, "I have a better idea... her screams will surely be particularly delightful."
...
Above the burning city, snowflakes suddenly began to fall.
The southeastern area was directly blanketed by ice and snow, freezing everything within it in frost.
This naturally caught the attention of the commanding officer of the Demon Race army, Rabid Wolf.
He jumped solo into the icy landscape, amidst several horrifying demon ice sculptures, he found Inanna and the Frost Elemental Lord hovering behind her.
"Interesting, a human like you, a strong one I’ve never heard of!"
With the final word, Rabid Wolf lunged forward.
The Frost Elemental Lord elegantly raised an arm, instantly forming a wall of ice to block Rabid Wolf.
"This won’t stop me!"
Rabid Wolf’s claws effortlessly ripped through the ice wall; stepping over shattered ice crystals, he advanced, leaving deep gashes on the Elemental Lord’s torso with his claw blades.
However, when he turned back, the Frost Elemental Lord’s wounds had closed up, as if nothing had happened, launching another assault against him.
"Elemental creatures... how troublesome." Rabid Wolf crushed the frost on his claws with a fist and charged again.
The Frost Elemental Lord’s breath froze his left arm, but he didn’t even glance at it, ripping apart the frozen flesh with his right claw, his blood-covered arm continuing its swing as usual.
Under his frenzied attack, the Frost Elemental Lord gradually showed signs of wear, her restoration slowing down.
Seeing this, Inanna knew she couldn’t let this keep happening, raising an arm: "Xiaohuo!"
"How many times do I have to tell you, call me Lord Fire!"
With that, the fiery molten figure emerged from the binding ring, immediately joining the fray, fierce flames and chill intertwining into a violent vortex; the frigid and fiery figures jointly attacking finally began to suppress Rabid Wolf’s momentum.
The fire tongues licked Rabid Wolf’s fur, ice cones whizzed past his ears, as he twisted, rolled, and countered in the crossfire, cut after cut marring his body, yet the fierce light in his eyes grew ever stronger.
Suddenly, he turned his gaze towards Inanna.
Rabid Wolf abruptly pivoted, bracing the scorching blaze of the Flame Elemental Lord’s attack, bursting out from the fire, transforming into a blur, darting straight at Inanna’s slender figure.
Too fast.
The Elemental Lords’ attacks trailed behind him, unable to catch up.
Reflected in Inanna’s pupils was the shadow surging closer; she barely raised her magic staff, the magic power at her fingertips hadn’t finished condensing.
"No... oh no!" Panic flickered in Inanna’s eyes.
At that moment, the entire city began to tremble.
Immediately following, the stone shifted, earth crumbled, the ground forcibly torn apart by something.
First, several tentacles shot skyward, digging into the ground, crushing countless houses, then a gigantic mushroom cap emerged from beneath, separating Inanna from the ferocious Rabid Wolf.
"Pink Puki—here I come—!"
