Mushroom Lord in the Underground City

Chapter 793 - 779: Battle at the Border

Chapter 793: Chapter 779: Battle at the Border

El Lin endured the sour taste, crouching at the edge of the newly dug trench, with one hand holding the explosive crossbow and the other supporting the edge, peering down the slope where they were located.

Below the slope, white Puki surged like maggots, relentlessly closing in.

"Where is the Puki Master? Why can’t I see the Puki Master?"

A slap hit the back of El Lin’s head, and he hastily adjusted his helmet, hearing the commanding voice from behind.

"Fool! Those are controlled by the Mushroom Transformers of the Fungus Castle. The Transformers are mingling among them; soon we’ll eliminate them all!"

Puki bunched up one after another, beginning their charge.

Only when the Puki rolled halfway up the slope did the commander give the order to attack.

El Lin raised the crossbow, aimed at a Puki in the white mass that seemed to be deliberately controlling speed, and fired a crossbow arrow.

The explosion shredded the target Puki and several others around it into fragments, almost simultaneously, about a dozen Puki unlocked their spherical form, fell to the ground, and were stunned.

The dwarves’ trenches were tiered, with crossbow arrows fired from the rear. Continuous explosions in the Puki group successfully halted their charge.

However, shortly afterward, figures of Puki appeared in the sky as well.

El Lin aimed the reloaded crossbow at the sky, only to be punched by the commander again: "Continue attacking the ground Puki, the ones in the sky aren’t your concern!"

Sure enough, when those flying Puki attempted to approach to launch mushroom cannons or outright self-destruct, dwarf mages in the trench node forts intervened.

Multiple "Great Storms" shot into the sky, slicing the Puki into turbulent wind blades, turning them into scattered mycelium, cascading down.

Only a few Puki managed to dive down to self-destruct, but due to the dwarves deliberately digging the trenches in an S-shape, the casualties from these self-destructing Puki were not severe.

This scene prompted the surrounding dwarves to softly cheer; with this kind of battle, victory seemed within reach.

El Lin excitedly reloaded, his fingertips just securing the crossbow string’s catch when his collar was abruptly grabbed, pulling him and the crossbow backward.

"Fool, be careful!"

The commander struck the ax handle heavily into a slightly raised section of the trench, with a muffled "puff," piercing a Puki that was about to emerge, silencing it.

No sooner had El Lin breathed a sigh of relief when he fearfully noticed more soil bundles rising under his commander’s feet...

Boom—

El Lin struggled mightily to dig the barely alive commander out from the collapsed trench.

Thanks to the rune-heavy armor, even though hit by three Puki’s face-size self-destructions, he barely survived.

El Lin quickly fed the healing potion to the commander.

Just then, another batch of flying Puki was shredded in the air by the mages.

Countless spores drifted down from the sky.

The commander suddenly widened his eyes.

"No... don’t!"

Despite his unwavering demeanor in battle, he now exerted all his strength to retreat, yet couldn’t prevent the spores from landing on him.

Watching this, El Lin felt powerless.

Though at this moment his commander showed no changes, both knew he was now parasitized. In a few days, mycelium would crawl out from under his skin, crisscrossing...

El Lin wanted to comfort him but didn’t know what to say.

He understood all too well what being parasitized meant now.

Similar scenes unfolded across the battlefield, momentarily diminishing the firepower of the dwarves’ front line, while the Fungus Castle finally dispatched their true elite Puki.

Another wave of flying Puki charged, and the mages in the fort once again unleashed the most effective "Great Storm" against them.

However, this time, many Puki voluntarily flew out of formation, self-destructing before the storm arrived.

The explosive turmoil blocked the storm, and immediately, a slightly larger flying Puki surged through the chaos, flying close to the fort.

A dwarf leaped, hammer in hand, intending to smash it.

What greeted him was the {Flaming Dragon Breath Level 7} squeezed from the mushroom cap.

Flames poured down, instantly engulfing him, while even the fort below partially melted in the extreme heat. The dwarf mage inside only managed a final scream before silence fell.

Other fortifications were also attacked by Dragon Breath Puki, with fire, frost, lightning, poison, and corrosion!

After decapitating the mage, the remaining flying Puki that had been hovering high above now swooped down in unison, collapsing the dwarves’ recently held first line in an instant, causing severe casualties.

El Lin ignored the commander’s desire for death, trying to drag him along the trench towards the rear.

However, the Puki continued their relentless pursuit.

A Dragon Breath Puki spewing frost along the trench was about to fly above El Lin.

A spinning ax with a red blade flew out, slicing the Dragon Breath Puki in two before orbiting back, caught steadily by a rough, large hand behind.

El Lin gazed at the figure, his voice involuntarily rising: "Bado... it’s Lord Bado!"

Bado didn’t pause; he reversed his grip on the ax handle and charged into the Puki swarm.

In his advancing and retreating movements, two more Dragon Breath Puki were struck down by him.

One of them self-destructed the moment it was hit, and the shockwave swept past Bado’s side; he merely tilted his head, not even pausing, adding only a few conspicuous scratches to his body.

On the Puki side, whether ordinary Puki, Dragon Breath Puki, or the most defensive heavy armor Puki, none could withstand a single ax blow from Bado.

During the time he held off the pursuit, the surviving dwarves on the first line smoothly retreated to the rear positions.

Indeed, if not for the entire front line retreating, the sight around Bado seemed almost like a counterattack on the Fungus Castle.

With personnel mainly withdrawn, Bado no longer lingered in battle.

He spun once, shredding the Puki around him, then turned to retreat.

A gigantic earth wall suddenly rose from the ground, standing between him and the rear positions, blocking the retreat.

Bado halted, turning his head to look toward the source of the spell.

Number Ten hovered in mid-air on a whirlwind, mushroom cap slightly drooped, casting a shadow over Bado.

"Coming and going as you please? It’s not that easy!" Number Ten said directly through telepathy.

Bado glanced at Number Ten in the air, his mouth twisting into a sneer.

He swung the red-bladed ax single-handedly, smashing forcefully into the wall behind.

With a loud bang, the wall shattered, sending debris flying.

He then provocatively pointed the ax at Number Ten: "Then come and try stopping me!"

Number Ten’s response was the simultaneous gathering of magic on four tentacles.

The ground beneath Bado raised him, fireballs aimed at his face, thunder crashed down on his head, and a light prison began forming to bind him.

"What the hell? Simultaneous casting?!" Bado had never anticipated Number Ten could cast spells like this.

In the urgency, his ax blades glowed with a dark red hue, exerting all his strength to prioritize slicing through the approaching light prison.

Boom—

All the dwarves witnessed the scene of Bado being blasted away.

...

Lin Jun looked at the {Charm} on Bado’s panel, pondering thoughtfully.
