Chapter 360: Chapter 110: The Long-Unheard Griffin’s Cry
After Everton finished explaining the situation in the Demon Beast Mountain Range, the first thing Robson did was to hurry and have someone make a large saddle.
Many people dreamed of flying when they were children, and Lord Robson was no exception. And besides, this was a giant dragon!
A giant dragon—a creature of myth!
Robson wasn’t sure if Everton had been ridden before, or if he was just truly shameless.
Originally, Robson thought he would have to do some convincing to get Everton to wear a Dragon Saddle.
Unexpectedly, when Everton learned of the matter, he didn’t mind in the slightest.
He even stood by and offered pointers while the leather artisan was crafting the Dragon Saddle, seeming to have plenty of experience. This scared the artisan quite a bit.
Once the Dragon Saddle was fitted on Everton, Robson immediately rode him for a loop around the skies above the domain.
The feeling of riding Everton was quite wonderful. The red dragon seemed to have been professionally trained; his coordination with Robson during flight could only be described as a perfect rapport, allowing Robson to truly experience the thrill of soaring high on a dragon.
Afterward, Robson asked a few questions and learned that Everton was actually a descendant of the last giant dragons from the Third Empire’s Dragon Knight Order. Back then, many of the giant dragons in the Dragon Knight Order had been transformed into Undead Giant Dragons. At the time, Everton was still receiving training in the Empire’s capital. The undead had already reached the Third Empire’s capital, and with the Dragon Knights completely wiped out, Everton seized the opportunity to flee.
This made Robson marvel for a moment. A giant dragon’s lifespan of nearly a thousand years was just absurd. The Scourge of the Undead was an event from almost a thousand years ago. Robson had only ever read about it in books; he never expected to meet someone who had personally experienced it.
The fact that Everton had received professional training was, of course, even better.
After all, as the commander-in-chief of the army, there would be many more uses for Everton in the future.
For instance, arriving at the battlefield in time to boost morale, or conducting aerial reconnaissance...
...
"My Lord, these are the latest weapons produced by Soldier Weapon No. 1."
"Please take a look. This is the first batch. We were wondering if you are satisfied. If you don’t like them, we can send them back for refinement."
A sturdy, middle-aged man was explaining the armor hanging on an armor stand and the weapons on a weapon rack to Robson.
This man was a top candidate selected through the domain’s recent examinations and merit system. His name was Han Luo, and because of his past experience as a blacksmith’s apprentice, he had been appointed as the head of the Widder Weapons Factory.
People like Han Luo were no longer a minority in the entire Affleck Domain. After passing basic examinations, learning arithmetic, and becoming literate in the common continental language, they were assigned by Robson to various positions throughout the Affleck Domain according to their expertise.
These people were now the Affleck Domain’s first generation of grassroots bureaucrats.
Besides these grassroots bureaucrats, the first round of aide-de-camp assessments had also concluded perfectly. The aides would basically start at the battalion level, and further decisions would be made after seeing how they performed.
Listening to Han Luo’s introduction, Robson walked forward and casually took a Long Sword from the weapon rack.
The surface of the Long Sword was slightly rough, but the blade looked quite sharp. ’Falan’s Magic Array must be working,’ Robson thought.
Talk is cheap, after all.
Robson handed the Long Sword to Ais, who was standing nearby.
"You try it. See how it is. Does it handle well?"
It didn’t matter how comfortable or uncomfortable Robson himself found it. After all, he was a Gold-rank, and his physical energy was far beyond that of an ordinary Soldier.
These swords were ultimately intended for ordinary Soldiers.
Although Ais had just become an Extraordinary, his personal physical condition meant his strength wasn’t much greater than that of a Tier Six Soldier.
Ais didn’t hesitate. He took the sword and swung it twice, then drew the sword from his own waist and placed it on a table. He then raised the new Long Sword high and swung it down forcefully.
With a CLANG, the blades of both Long Swords were chipped.
Robson stepped forward and looked at the Long Sword Ais had placed on the table.
He had thought the quality might be good, but he had never imagined it would be this good.
One had to understand that Ais was the second-in-command of Robson’s army. The Long Sword he carried at his side was forged from Refined Iron.
Although upon closer inspection, the sword produced by the Widder Weapons Factory was still inferior to Ais’s own Steel Sword.
But the fact that it could even hold its own was shocking enough. This sword already surpassed the normal standard of the Frank Kingdom’s Standing Army’s regulation equipment.
And this weapon came from a weapons factory that had only just been established.
At Robson’s direction, Ais took the sword and walked over to a suit of armor on the side. That armor was also produced by the Widder Weapons Factory.
A silver-blue battle aura began to appear around Ais’s hands, veins bulged on them, and after a furious shout, he fiercely struck the armor with the Long Sword.
There was a screech of scraping metal, and after a shower of sparks, the Long Sword snapped, and the armor was partially dented.
HISS...
Robson sucked in a cold breath. He had seen clearly that Ais had used his battle aura.
The force of that strike was almost equivalent to a warhammer smashing into the armor. A full-force blow from a Transcendent had only managed to dent it slightly.
’This quality is already quite good,’ Robson thought. ’Of course, on a real battlefield, the Soldier inside the armor would most likely be dead after a blow like that.’
"The quality is indeed good," Robson said. "Record a merit for everyone at the weapons factory and the Steel Factory."
"Thank you for the reward, My Lord!" Han Luo hurriedly bowed.
Robson nodded.
"Later, I will dispatch a few Soldiers to you. You will improve your products based on their feedback."
"Of course, the weapons factory can also begin producing these weapons now. You’ll have two production lines; both farm tools and weaponry must proceed without delay," Robson said.
Just as Robson had thought before, weapons were, in the end, things to be used by Soldiers.
Robson planned to have a few experienced Soldiers permanently stationed at the weapons factory to provide suggestions. After all, the practitioners have the most say.
The group then discussed the weapons for a while longer.
Just as they were in discussion, the cry of a griffin suddenly came from the sky.
For a moment, Robson didn’t even react.
The cry of a griffin... it had been a long time. The last time he had heard one was over a month ago.
Robson had gotten used to the peaceful days recently, almost forgetting that the entire Frank Kingdom was still in a state of total war.
Robson looked at the surrounding Soldiers; even Ais was visibly dazed.
’I wonder whose letter the griffin is carrying,’ he thought.
"Let’s go. We’ll go out and see," Robson said with a smile.
