Chapter 424 - 172: Mountain Rock Bear Race

Chapter 424: Chapter 172: Mountain Rock Bear Race

Although the few Golden Tier giant beasts ran off midway, they were, after all, only a few.

Hundreds of Demon Beasts were now roaring and lunging toward the human army.

While leading his army, Robson heard the commotion in the distance. He rode Everton, circled once in the sky, and immediately spotted the horde of Demon Beasts charging toward them.

Robson’s eyes went wide as he gazed at the horde of Demon Beasts.

’This horde of Demon Beasts will be enough to keep Affleck supplied for a good while!’

It was no exaggeration to say that this was the first time Robson had ever seen a beast tide of this scale.

Back with Affleck, a hundred people would go hunting and bring back two or three beasts at most in a day—and that was on a good day.

’So the Demon Beast Mountain Range is actually a goldmine?’

"What is it? What happened?"

Valentino stepped forward to ask as Robson landed. The rest of the troops, especially Chief Mole, also looked toward Robson with confusion.

"Demon Beasts. It’s a beast tide."

"Inform the entire army, a beast tide is heading for us! Form ranks! Prepare to engage the enemy!"

"Change formation! Sword-and-shield infantry to the front!"

"Change formation! Change formation!"

Robson’s commands instantly spread throughout the army.

Even Chief Mole led his subordinate Bear Race Soldiers to converge on Robson’s position.

However, Robson did not let them get close.

’I’ve never commanded these Bear Race Soldiers. It would be a disaster if they disrupted my formations.’

"ROAR!"

"Demon Beasts! The Demon Beasts are here!"

Before long, an even greater tremor ran through the ground, and the roars of the Demon Beasts sounded as if they were right beside them.

"Shields up!"

"Fengman Knights, dismount and fight on foot!"

This was a forest; there was no room for warhorses to maneuver.

Upon receiving the command, the Extraordinary Knights of the Fengman Clan immediately vaulted from their saddles without the slightest hesitation.

Soon, packs of Demon Beasts appeared in the human army’s line of sight as suddenly as phantoms.

This horde of Demon Beasts could not inflict much damage on Robson’s army.

At the end of the day, they were just a pack of mindless beasts.

The moment they appeared, they were immediately targeted by Robson’s numerous Tier Six Shooters.

If ordinary arrows could not pierce their hides, then they would just shoot for their eyes.

For a Tier Six Shooter, a feat like splitting a willow leaf from a hundred paces was no difficult task, so this was hardly a challenge.

Many of the Demon Beasts also had the ability to use Magic. These were priority targets for the Tier Six Shooters. Before they could even cast, their eyes were burst by the Archers’ arrows.

Even the Demon Beasts that broke through the volley of arrows were stopped by the Soldiers’ Shield Array, then cut down by the Fengman Knights who rushed in from behind.

It just went to show that beasts were ultimately beasts. Without intelligence, they couldn’t bring even a tenth of their power to bear.

If someone had been commanding them, the combat prowess of this horde of beasts would have been a completely different story.

Meanwhile, Chief Mole and the Mountain Rock Bear Race were just watching from the sidelines.

Chief Mole was dumbstruck by the scene unfolding before him.

Chief Mole had always believed the Mountain Rock Bear Race to be the world’s most elite Infantry, but even they could not have handled this horde of Demon Beasts with such effortless skill!

The humans’ movements were as fluid as flowing water, as if it were all as simple as breathing.

If Chief Mole had harbored any lingering resentment over his prior defeat, he was now utterly convinced of their superiority.

’There’s no room for argument. This isn’t a battle fought on the same level. Even in a direct confrontation, my Bear Race Warriors would be no match for them.’

This success was largely thanks to the power of Robson’s tactical system and the superb equipment he had gathered from all over.

...

The battle did not last long. Although the Demon Beasts had been goaded into a frenzy by Earl, the screams of their dying kin and the rising stench of blood in the air soon shocked them back to their senses.

When the Demon Beasts regained their wits and saw the disciplined ranks of the human army before them, it didn’t take long for them to turn tail and scatter.

"Advance by squads! Slow march!"

Robson was quite satisfied as he gazed at the field littered with Demon Beast corpses.

’Demon Beasts are still powerful creatures. In a one-on-one fight, my Soldiers would certainly be no match for them.’

Valentino also rallied the Fengman Knights, leading them in a charge to deliver the final blow to the fleeing Demon Beast packs.

The battle ended quickly. Chief Mole wanted to give chase, but with the Bear Race’s short legs, they simply didn’t have the speed.

Robson had already done them a great favor by driving away the Demon Beasts, so they were too embarrassed to ask for anything else.

...

"Elder Eggon!"

As Robson and his party reached the foot of the mountain, the Bear Race Warriors who had remained behind came down to meet them, escorting an elderly man.

Upon seeing the elder, Chief Mole immediately rushed forward.

"Elder, how has the tribe fared these past few days?"

"Mole, my boy, with me here, could anything truly serious have happened? I may be old, but I’ve still got some fight left in me!"

With the siege lifted, Elder Eggon looked much better.

Chief Mole rubbed his nose and shuffled away with an awkward chuckle.

"And I wonder, who might this friend be, who has traveled so far to be here? I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure of hearing your name," Elder Eggon asked with a smile.

Although the Mountain Rock Bear Race were once vassals of the Beastman Empire, they didn’t actually harbor much hatred for humans.

Robson offered Elder Eggon a formal nobleman’s greeting.

"Venerable Elder, my name is Robson, and I hail from the Frank Kingdom.

Behind me stands my army."

"This is Valentino. You may not recognize her, but you will surely recognize her family.

She is a Count of the Fengman Clan."

After Robson finished, Valentino also gave Elder Eggon a respectful bow.

The Frank Kingdom was an agrarian civilization, and such cultures typically hold a deep-seated tradition of respecting their elders.

A peculiar look appeared in Elder Eggon’s eyes when he heard the name Fengman Clan.

"Fengman... Yes, I have heard of them. A clan of warriors, according to the tales."

"Thank you for your praise," Valentino replied, her expression impassive.

She was always this serious in front of outsiders.

Chief Mole recounted the course of events to Elder Eggon, who nodded repeatedly as he listened.

"Excellent! We of the Mountain Rock Bear Race always keep our word."

"I will travel to your territory in the future and serve you there," Elder Eggon declared.

Robson’s eyes lit up. He had already learned from Mole that this Elder Eggon was the most powerful Druid in the entire Mountain Rock Bear Race, and that his decision represented the will of the entire clan.

With his support, the dozen or so other Druids in the Mountain Rock Bear Race would surely not object.

"You are too kind, Elder. I was just wondering... how on earth did you manage to provoke all these Demon Beasts?" Robson asked.

’Because whatever they did, I, Lord Robson, would love to do the same.’

’It’s a business that practically hands you money, and I want in.’

At the mention of this, Elder Eggon’s bearish features fell.

"Ai, it’s a long story... A long, long time ago, our ancestors were hunting outside the Demon Beast Mountain Range when they accidentally shot and killed the offspring of that legendary giant bird..."

Once Elder Eggon started telling the story, there was no stopping him.
