Chapter 427 - 175: Bo Yang’s First Battle

Chapter 427: Chapter 175: Bo Yang’s First Battle

This method required little tactical finesse; it was purely a contest of which side’s soldiers were tougher.

In this respect, Bo Yang was confident.

He had been on campaign with Robson for nearly a year, so he knew just how tough Robson’s troops were.

The only worry was that his own prestige wasn’t high enough. ’How will I command their respect?’

Fortunately, Robson had also left Earl Uman with him.

When it came to balancing interests and motivating nobles, Earl Uman was in his element.

With the exception of a few nobles from Ador Province, the rest held Earl Uman’s rank as an Earl in high regard.

With their support, and that of the nobles Robson had brought back from the Western Front, Bo Yang’s plan was finally approved.

...

「That night, inside Julian City.」

After several days of constant fear, Chief Liete finally received a reply from the Royal Court.

After reading the letter’s contents, Chief Liete finally breathed a sigh of relief and immediately summoned all the Centaur leaders within the city.

Hearing that news had arrived from the Royal Court, the Centaur leaders dared not delay and hurried over at once.

"What’s the word, Chieftain? What did the Royal Court say?"

Some of the leaders, seeing Chief Liete clutching a letter, asked anxiously before everyone had even gathered.

For the past two days, the humans had bombarded them day and night. Not a single Centaur in the city could sleep, terrified that if they closed their eyes, they might never open them again.

Seeing their anxious faces, Chief Liete simply smiled, saying nothing, adopting a posture that suggested he had everything under control.

His silence left the leaders fidgeting with anxiety.

Only after everyone had arrived did Chief Liete leisurely produce the letter.

"I’m sure you all know why I’ve called you here!"

"The Royal Court has issued its latest orders!

Our clan’s reinforcements are right outside the city! Tomorrow at dawn, we can break through their lines!"

"Is this news true?"

"The Chief himself said it. How could it be false?"

Before the words had even finished, the Centaur leaders present erupted in cheers.

They had truly had enough of the humans outside, and the dwindling rations within Julian City were a constant strain on the morale of the entire Centaur Tribe.

If Chief Liete hadn’t been holding them back, they would have attempted a breakout long ago.

"Quiet! Quiet down!"

Chief Liete barked, bringing the room under control.

Once their excitement subsided, the chieftains looked to Chief Liete.

Chief Liete was a scion of the Centaur Royal Family. While Julian City was under siege, no one had known the Royal Court’s intentions.

But now that the Royal Court planned to send reinforcements, Chief Liete’s authority was restored.

"Tonight, go and make preparations immediately! At dawn, we will advance directly from the North City Gate. Understood?" Chief Liete commanded.

The Centaur chieftains all nodded in agreement.

Chief Liete kept the chieftains behind to go over the specific details of the battle several times.

That night, flames lit up the sky over all of Julian City.

The Centaurs inside the city, burning their bridges, set all their remaining food supplies to the torch.

Chief Liete still had immense faith in the Royal Court.

The fires and clamor within the city lasted the entire night.

Both humans and Centaurs awaited the battle that would come with the dawn.

...

「Dawn broke in the east.」

Baron Boyang, emulating Robson, stood atop a mountain peak to observe the overall situation. Earl Uman accompanied him.

Bo Yang’s eyes were fixed on Julian City’s gates.

As a Silver Sixth Tier, he naturally possessed such an ability.

"You seem a little nervous," Earl Uman teased.

Bo Yang was in no mood for idle chatter.

’Of course I’m nervous, how could I not be?’

This was the first large-scale battle Bo Yang had ever commanded, and arguably the one with the most far-reaching consequences.

’If he lost, Bo Yang didn’t know how he would ever face Robson.’

"They’re coming out!"

Suddenly, Bo Yang’s pupils dilated.

The North City Gate had, at some point, been thrown wide open.

"Send the order: Magic Crystal Cannons, prepare to fire! Aim for the North City Gate of Julian City."

"The Magic Crystal Cannons? Bo Yang, are we firing now?"

"Fire... No, wait.

Let’s wait and see."

....

"Cut down these humans! Charge!"

"For the Empire! For the Royal Court!"

After a night of preparation, the Centaur Warriors inside Julian City were champing at the bit.

Chief Liete led the charge at the very front.

A continuous thunder of hooves echoed across the land.

Hundreds, then thousands, of Centaurs poured out of the North City Gate, charging toward the distant human encampment.

"For the Empire! For the Royal Court!"

"For..."

The Centaur Warriors followed close behind Chief Liete, each one letting out a war cry as they charged ahead.

"Ready!"

Chief Liete drew his bow, his voice booming with the power of a Golden Tier warrior.

Although their ranks of dedicated Centaur Shooters had been all but wiped out, those were merely the most skilled archers in Julian City. It didn’t mean the Centaur Clan had no others.

Now that the moment for the breakout had come, Chief Liete brought out his personal reserves—a collection of weapons and bows accumulated over many years. He held nothing back.

In an instant, a countless volley of arrows soared into the sky.

What they lacked in quality, they made up for in quantity.

Chief Liete had pressed everyone in the city into service—men, women, young, and old alike. Nearly twenty thousand Centaurs!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Chief Liete was reveling in the charge when, suddenly, a flash of light erupted from a distant mountaintop, followed by a series of thunderous roars.

Robson may have left, but the Magic Crystal Cannons had not.

More than a dozen Magic Crystal Cannons fired in unison. Magic Crystal Balls, glowing with an incandescent blue light, streaked across the sky.

"Not good! The gate!"

Chief Liete’s face went pale with fright.

Just by looking at their trajectory, it was clear the Energy Balls were heading for the North City Gate of Julian City.

The faces of the chieftains beside Chief Liete also changed drastically.

Most of their possessions, and more importantly their kinsfolk, were still inside the city.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Before long, the projectiles from the Magic Crystal Cannons landed squarely on the city gate.

A few stray shots went wide, exploding amidst the Centaur horde outside the city.

Chief Liete had already charged a considerable distance, but even from so far away, he could still hear the screams coming from the direction of the city gate.

Fortunately, he only heard the screams of Centaurs, not the sound of a collapsing gate. This proved the gate was still standing, and the Centaurs inside could still get out.

"Keep advancing! Faster! Everyone! Give it everything you’ve got!"

The gate was holding for now, but anyone could see that a stone gatehouse couldn’t withstand such an intense bombardment for long.

All Chief Liete could do now was keep his vanguard moving at top speed, clearing enough space for the Centaur Warriors evacuating behind them.

"Charge! Charge!"

"Everyone, charge!"

The surrounding Centaur chieftains also realized the urgency, their four legs pumping as if possessed.
