Chapter 474: Chapter 221: Victory
The arrow was imbued with a strange energy. The attack was so sudden that Prince Trilman was caught off guard, and the shaft grazed his skin.
Fury blazed in Prince Trilman’s eyes as he stared ahead.
He saw a young human male holding a bow. The man shot him a mocking glance before leading a hundred Heavy Cavalry of the Human Race out of the Tiger Race’s formation.
It was as if they could come and go as they pleased.
"Watch out! They’re coming again!"
"It’s a Knight Order of the Human Race! A Knight Order!"
"How are there two more Knight Orders?"
Prince Trilman looked ahead. A Light Cavalry unit and the Fengman Knight Order were once again charging the Tiger Race’s camp.
For the first time, Prince Trilman felt so helpless.
As much as he hated to admit it, Prince Trilman knew that his opponents—from the Extraordinary to the rank-and-file Soldiers—were on a completely different level of strength.
’I might be... getting completely crushed.’
Right now, Prince Trilman could only hope that General Wilson, who was guarding the camp, would quickly dispatch troops to rescue him, or that the Tiger Race Warriors sent to fight the Gnolls would return victorious soon and come to his aid.
Indeed, even now, Prince Trilman still believed that the soldiers under his command could defeat the Gnoll horde.
He had dispatched five thousand men! True, they were the five thousand least experienced soldiers in his army, but even the weakest among them were still from the most elite units of the Tiger Race!
’Dealing with a bunch of Gnolls should be a piece of cake, right?’
As Prince Trilman was lost in thought, he suddenly noticed a plume of dust billowing from the distant mountains. It looked like an army was heading his way.
But they were several miles away, and even Prince Trilman couldn’t make them out clearly.
’Was Kandar that fast?’
Prince Trilman guessed that it must be Chief Kandar. He must have defeated the Gnoll army and was now returning to reinforce him.
But as Prince Trilman considered this, a feeling of unease crept over him.
’Why are they back so quickly?’
After all, these were the same Gnolls who had torn through the Centaur King City! Could it be that the Gnoll army’s fearsome reputation was just for show?
While Prince Trilman was lost in confusion, a messenger on a Wolf Rider galloped up to him, his face a mask of panic.
"Your Highness! Your Highness! Terrible news!"
"Terrible news!"
The messenger barely had time to dismount before scrambling to Prince Trilman’s side.
Prince Trilman frowned.
"What’s wrong? Speak clearly."
The messenger, still shaken, pointed to the west.
"Your Highness, they lost! They lost!"
"’Lost? Who lost?’ A terrible premonition welled up inside Prince Trilman.
"Chief Kandar! Chief Kandar lost! Your Highness, the Gnoll horde is charging this way!" the messenger cried out.
"What!"
’Kandar lost!’
’How is that possible!’
Prince Trilman was thunderstruck by the news.
Just moments ago, he had been hoping Kandar’s forces would win quickly and come to his aid.
Now, as Prince Trilman stared into the distance, he finally understood why he had felt so uneasy before.
The cloud of dust in the distance was too large, the number of men too great! It far exceeded the scale of five thousand men!
’How does a battle result in more soldiers than you started with?’
’How could they lose? And even if they did, how could it have been so fast?’
Prince Trilman couldn’t understand.
But, there was one thing he had to understand.
’If I don’t run now, it’ll be too late...’
"What about General Wilson? What’s the situation at the main camp?" Prince Trilman asked nervously.
Under these circumstances, his only remaining hope was that General Wilson would send aid and break the encirclement.
But even if reinforcements arrived now, the Tiger Race’s elite forces had already suffered catastrophic losses.
Setting aside Chief Kandar’s fate, General Oles and the elite Soldiers under his direct command were almost certainly a lost cause.
The messenger stared at him blankly, then shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.
"Get word to General Wilson! Tell him to send aid and break this encirclement at once!" Prince Trilman roared.
By now, His Highness Prince could no longer maintain his usual calm and composure.
"Reform the lines! Defensive formation!"
At the same time, Prince Trilman looked to the Tiger Race Warriors around him and ordered them into a defensive formation.
....
What Prince Trilman didn’t know was that General Wilson was already packing his things, preparing to flee.
Prince Trilman, leading troops on the front line, couldn’t see the full picture. General Wilson, however, saw it with perfect clarity.
To put it simply, they were now completely surrounded by the enemy!
At first, the elite Tiger Race forces at the very front had managed to hold their own against the army of the Human Race, leveraging their numerical superiority.
But as the battle progressed, the Tiger Race’s numbers dwindled, until they fell below a critical threshold.
Now, the humans had switched to the offensive, pouncing on the remaining Tiger Race People.
To the east, Prince Trilman’s own army was being crushed by the Human Race. He’d had several hundred Wolf Cavalry under his command, but they were no match for the human Cavalry. They had been completely wiped out at the very start of the battle.
The west was another story entirely. The routed army from that flank was already trickling back to the Beast God Camp. They were muttering incoherently about "Evil Gods" and "great terror," their minds clearly broken.
What was most despairing of all was the fact that the humans hadn’t even used their full strength yet.
