Chapter 540 - 10: Taking Over Logistics (Part 2)

Chapter 540: Chapter 10: Taking Over Logistics (Part 2)

Though Earl Uman said nothing, he was actually quite nervous. The northern inland faction was on the verge of becoming a reality, yet he had no significant political achievements to his name. At this rate, he wouldn’t even be able to secure the position of second-in-command.

If Robson still held a grudge over what had happened before, or if he was overly nepotistic, the rest of his life would likely be spent in mediocrity.

Fortunately, it turned out that Robson hadn’t used him before simply because he wasn’t up to the task. Now that a suitable mission had come up, he was summoned immediately.

After speaking with Earl Uman for a while and discussing their next course of action, Robson led his troops away, preparing to take over security for the logistics operation.

.....

The Marquis really knew how to run an army.

Although the main army had only just arrived at the Bronze Plains, the logistics camp was already taking shape on a highland by a lake near Bronze Pass.

Of course, a considerable portion of the logistical supplies was actually stored inside Bronze Pass itself.

Robson arrived with his troops.

From a distance, banners fluttered in the wind.

Although this world didn’t have things like formation flags for command, there were still plenty of banners representing the various families.

By the time Robson arrived, a group of people was already waiting in the logistics camp.

Robson recognized the man—it was Earl Lu Wen.

"Earl Robson."

"Earl Lu Wen."

The two greeted each other, and then Earl Lu Wen pulled Robson over to an elderly man.

"This is Earl Yavin. He was previously in charge of military logistics. You two can handle the handover," Earl Lu Wen introduced.

Earl Yavin looked amiable, but he had the distinct air of a bureaucrat.

In fact, he was indeed a bureaucrat; his title of Earl was an honorary one.

"Not only that, but the Marquis also found someone to help you."

"I’m curious to see if you can guess who," Earl Lu Wen said with a smile.

"Oh?" Robson was puzzled.

"The Marquis found him?"

’The Marquis wanted to give him a task, didn’t he say he’d give Lord Robson full authority? Why is he parachuting in a cadre now?’

’Is he afraid Lord Robson is taking too big of a step forward and wants someone to supervise me, make sure I don’t skim too much off the top?’

Robson’s confusion didn’t last long.

A middle-aged Knight stepped out from the crowd.

The Knight also had blond hair and bore a strong resemblance to Robson.

Only by reaching the Gold rank could one achieve eternal youth. This Knight had clearly not reached Gold, and his face was weathered by time, making him look like a middle-aged version of Robson. In fact, if the two stood side by side, most people would probably believe he was the famous Earl Robson.

After all, Robson himself looked far too young.

Although it had been a year since they last met, Robson recognized the newcomer at a glance.

"Big Brother, what are you doing here!"

Robson opened his arms.

The Odogin Family was known for being prolific. Robson had five full brothers, and he was the third oldest.

This was none other than Robson’s eldest brother, Oston, who had been stationed on the central front.

"Robson..."

Although he was a transmigrator, he had inherited the original owner’s memories, so Robson still felt something for these relatives.

In his memories, Oston had always been the image of a responsible eldest brother.

The two brothers, reunited after a long separation, shared a brief hug.

Oston stared at his younger brother, a dazed look on his face.

When the legendary hero of the kingdom, Earl Robson, turned out to be his own younger brother standing right before him, Oston felt a profound sense of unreality.

After the embrace, the two separated.

Robson pulled Valentino over.

"This is Earl Fengman. Fioro is currently with the army," Robson introduced.

Valentino hadn’t expected this perfectly good political drama to be interrupted by a family reunion.

Valentino also gave Oston a polite bow.

Oston’s sense of unreality deepened. His own unremarkable little brother had somehow performed legendary deeds and even won over one of the most powerful noble ladies in the kingdom.

In truth, he didn’t know that, at this very moment, Valentino was actually a bit envious of the Odogin Family.

Robson’s father had sired a child every two years from the age of twenty until he was forty.

This was something Valentino could only envy; a curse had long plagued the Fengman Clan.

"You’re very impressive, much more so than me," Oston said.

Because of the large age gap, Oston didn’t really have much in common with his younger siblings.

The little brother who once needed his protection had suddenly become a towering giant, laughing and chatting with the most powerful figures, and Oston still hadn’t quite processed it.

"It seems you brothers have a very good relationship," Earl Lu Wen said with a laugh.

"Viscount Oston has been working in the logistics department for some time. He’s very capable and is now the second-in-command."

"Viscount?" Robson was confused.

Earl Lu Wen nodded.

"Oston performed exceptionally on the battlefield and was granted the title of Honorary Viscount of the Edward family by the Marquis," Earl Lu Wen explained.

At the mention of this, Oston looked a little awkward. His strength was only at the Bronze level; he knew full well whether his performance had been "exceptional" or not. In truth, the Marquis had transferred him to the logistics department simply because the battlefield was brutal, and he was afraid Oston would die, making it difficult to answer to Robson.

Unexpectedly, Oston actually had some talent for management. Relying on his abilities and a little bit of nepotism, he had managed to become the second-in-command of the logistics department.

Oston was a traditional noble who believed in the code of chivalry and repaying one’s debts. He understood that all of this was thanks to his younger brother and was deeply grateful to Robson, but when face to face with him, he didn’t know how to express it.

It only took Robson a moment’s thought to understand the whole story and why Marquis Oscillate wanted him to manage logistics.

He took back all his previous doubts about the Marquis.

Oscillate was still Oscillate—a man capable of stabilizing the kingdom for decades. His skills were truly impressive.

With Oston’s support, he, Lord Robson, wouldn’t be going into the logistics department completely blind. And that was on top of all the political reasons.

It turned out that the most suitable person to be the Head of Logistics was, in fact, him—Lord Robson!

.....

Earl Lu Wen was only there to guide him and, more importantly, to show support for Robson, ensuring the northern faction within the logistics department wouldn’t take him lightly.

Once his job as a guide was done, Earl Lu Wen left.

Robson, however, didn’t immediately fast-forward to the "pleasant chat and mutual progress" stage with his new colleagues. Instead, he dismissed the crowd, telling everyone to go back to their posts and prepare their documents.

Furthermore, Robson made a special point to drop a hint: they shouldn’t push their luck. They should hurry up and spit out whatever they had swallowed, and not wait for Lord Robson to launch a full-scale investigation.

After giving his instructions, Robson ordered Bo Yang and his men to take over the defenses of the logistics camp.

.....

Robson went to the center of the logistics camp. Before long, Oston placed a pile of documents and information in front of him.

"So? With this information, are you confident you can handle the army’s logistics?"

Robson looked at Valentino and Earl Uman, and couldn’t help but give the Marquis a mental thumbs-up.

With Oston’s help, managing the logistics camp was like using a cheat code in a puzzle game.

"After this, I need to take the Jackal Wolfman Legion to the Beastman Grassland.

I probably can’t stay here for long, so you two tell me your thoughts first. I need to get a general idea of the situation," Robson said.

"No problem."

"The documents are basically all here," Valentino said with a nod.

"You can rest assured, My Lord," Earl Uman chimed in.

"That’s good."

Robson nodded, picked up a sheet of paper from the table, found a quill pen, and began to write and sketch.

"I trust you both know what to do."

"I won’t say more about the rest. Just pay attention to these few people."

Robson listed a series of names.

They were basically all core figures in the northern inland faction.

Valentino took the paper and nodded.

As the group was talking, a guard entered the command tent and approached Robson.

"My Lord, Prince Noah is looking for you."

"His Highness?" Robson raised an eyebrow.

’What is Prince Noah doing here at a time like this?’

Hearing that the Prince had arrived, the group of officers straightened their uniforms.

A short while later, a figure stepped into the military tent.
