Chapter 728: Chapter 729: Making a Move
Ye Chutang’s gaze swept across King Yan Nan’s face. Instead of dwelling on the topic, she changed the subject.
"I heard that Tuoba Yu previously used a Gu poison on you? Are you feeling any better now?"
King Yan Nan was taken aback for a moment, but he quickly realized this information must have come from Ye Chutang’s friend in Long City.
He knew this person existed, but he didn’t know much about them.
After the siege of Long City was resolved, he had spent most of his time with Ye Yunfeng and the others. Afterward, he had rushed back to the Capital City to escort Tuoba Yu, so he hadn’t had time to attend to anything else.
However, the few people closest to him already knew about the Gu poison, so there was no need to hide it from Ye Chutang.
Princess Qingyang’s spirits lifted, and she urged him, "That’s right, Father! Chutang knows a thing or two about the Poisonous Gu Technique, too. Tell her what’s going on! She might have a way to fix it!"
King Yan Nan had heard many rumors about Ye Chutang recently. These naturally included the story of her performing a public autopsy in the Ministry of Justice Prison, where she had extracted and killed the Gu Worms from the bodies of several swordsmen from Nanhu.
But...
"How could Second Miss Ye be familiar with the Poisonous Gu Technique?" King Yan Nan finally voiced the question that had long been on his mind. "It’s a secret art of the Nanhu, not one they share with outsiders. Even in the renowned Shui Family, disciples must pass through rigorous selections just to qualify to learn about it..."
Ye Chutang was born in Qingzhou and later followed Ye Zheng to the Capital City, but it seems she hadn’t been there long before disaster struck the Ye Family.
Afterward, she was left alone to care for her younger siblings. They drifted from place to place before finally settling south in Jiangling, where they lived for several years. She only returned to the capital last year.
’No matter how one looked at it, how could she have possibly had the opportunity to learn about such things from the Nanhu?’
Ye Chutang shook her head. "I wouldn’t say I’m an expert. It’s more like I’ve heard a few things and am just copying what I’ve seen. My friend is from Louyang, which is very close to Long City, so he knows a little about what goes on with the Nanhu. Everything... I heard from him. He was injured a few years ago and happened to come to my clinic, which is how we met."
King Yan Nan’s expression cleared. "Ah, so that’s how it is!"
With that, everything made sense.
Ye Chutang possessed excellent medical skills. During the years she ran her clinic, she must have met countless people and naturally became worldly and knowledgeable.
"Besides, I’m hardly an expert in this field. I only just learned this morning that Mr. Fan Chengzhuo was afflicted with a Gu poison."
Ye Chutang brought it up so naturally, it was as if she didn’t find the matter terrifying in the least.
She shook her head, a self-deprecating smile on her face.
"I ran into Mr. Fan not long ago and even gave him a special examination. Unfortunately, I failed to detect it then. I thought he was simply poisoned. And just like that, his treatment was delayed."
Princess Qingyang curled her lip. "A man like that could die ten thousand times and it still wouldn’t be enough! What’s there to regret? If you ask me, every day he lives is just another day for him to commit more evil!"
Fan Chengzhuo’s reputation was utterly ruined.
Not only had he abandoned his wife and son, but he had also colluded with the Wazhen for personal gain. He was even capable of treason. He should have died long ago!
His crimes were unforgivable!
Still, Ye Chutang’s words had just confirmed the rumors circulating in the capital.
King Yan Nan frowned. "He was truly afflicted with a Gu? But he’s always been in the Capital City and never once left. How could this have happened? Have those people from Nanhu grown so audacious?"
"What’s so surprising?" Princess Qingyang shrugged. "Several assassins from Nanhu have already been captured! That proves they’ve had their hands in the Capital City for a long time. Targeting someone like Fan Chengzhuo would have been a piece of cake. Who knows, maybe there are others besides Fan Chengzhuo who’ve been poisoned with a Gu, and we just haven’t found out yet!"
Her words were blunt, but they made sense.
"Forget it. Let’s not worry about their mess. Someone else will investigate. Chutang, could you check my father’s pulse first?"
Deep down, Princess Qingyang was still very worried about her father’s health.
He had seemed fine since his return, apart from some lingering weakness, but she would feel much more at ease after he was examined.
Fearing that word might get out and cause unnecessary trouble, she hadn’t even summoned an Imperial Physician.
The only person she could trust now was Ye Chutang.
Ye Chutang nodded. "From what my friend said, the Soft Bone Gu that Tuoba Yu used on King Yan Nan is a very common type. It only causes a temporary loss of martial strength, leaving the body fatigued and weak, but it isn’t life-threatening."
Princess Qingyang’s eyes brightened. "So you can cure it?"
Ye Chutang placed her fingers on King Yan Nan’s wrist. After a moment of thought, she said, "I can try."
Hearing this, Princess Qingyang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"That’s wonderful!"
She knew Ye Chutang. If she said she could try, it meant she definitely had a solution!
Sure enough, Ye Chutang then took out her needle pouch and a dagger that was razor-sharp and as thin as a cicada’s wing.
"Yan."
Ye Chutang only had to say his name, and Ye Jingyan nodded, turned, and walked out.
A moment later, he returned with a candlestick and a jug of wine.
The scene was quite familiar to Princess Qingyang.
King Yan Nan also had a vague idea of what she was about to do, but he simply sat there, allowing Ye Chutang to proceed.
Next, Ye Chutang said, "Please roll up your sleeve."
King Yan Nan complied, revealing a still-muscular arm, which he calmly rested flat.
Ye Chutang took her needles and inserted them in succession along King Yan Nan’s arm at the Tianquan, Quze, and Neiguan acupoints.
King Yan Nan felt a dense, aching sensation spread along the inside of his arm, as if ants were biting him.
As Ye Chutang worked, the sore, numb feeling grew more intense.
King Yan Nan’s brow furrowed for a moment, but he quickly relaxed it, enduring the sensation with a calm expression.
For him, this was nothing.
"A Feng." Ye Chutang placed the final needle at the Laogong acupoint.
Ye Yunfeng immediately sterilized the dagger with wine, then heated it in the flame.
Ye Chutang held out her hand, and Ye Yunfeng instantly placed the dagger in her palm, handle-first.
Without looking up, her dark, calm eyes fixed on King Yan Nan’s palm. Gripping the dagger, she made an impossibly swift and light incision.
Her movements were so clean and decisive, without a hint of hesitation, that by the time King Yan Nan registered it, blood was already welling from his palm!
Blood gushed out!
But still, he did not move, his eyes remaining on Ye Chutang.
Princess Qingyang’s heart felt as if it were in a vise, yet she couldn’t look away, her gaze fixed on the scene.
Soon, King Yan Nan felt an itching sensation spread to his palm, accompanied by a faint, stinging pain.
He couldn’t help but glance down.
Just then!
Something seemed to stir beneath the wound in his palm!
With lightning-fast reflexes, Ye Chutang’s sharp dagger instantly flicked out a blood clot the size of a fingernail!
CLINK!
