Chapter 1825: Chapter 1670: Escape Game 22
The trace seemed like a tiny crack on the wall, barely noticeable. Shuangshuang walked over and gently stroked the trace on the wall, confirming from the tactile sensation that it indeed was a crack.
Xiao Zhongjing also came over and mimicked Shuangshuang’s gesture, stroking the area of the crack, guessing, "Could this be a secret door? There’s a hidden space behind it."
Shuangshuang knocked on the wall, and the hollow sound echoed back. She smirked slightly, "To see if it’s a secret door, you just have to give it a push."
Shuangshuang felt along the sides of the door, and then cautiously pushed on one side. This secret door appeared to be a hinge door that could be opened with some force.
The door was heavy. After pushing hard for a while, and with Xiao Zhongjing’s help, they together expended a lot of effort before finally opening a gap wide enough for one person.
The inside of the secret door was pitch black, seemingly entirely sealed. Shuangshuang took out her phone, turned on the flashlight, and shone it inside, preparing to enter.
To her surprise, Xiao Zhongjing behind her reached out and tugged at her, nervously glancing inside, "Uh, maybe I should go in and check things out."
Shuangshuang was worried something terrifying might frighten him inside. If Xiao Zhongjing were scared and started yelling, alerting someone or something, it would be troublesome.
Thinking this, Shuangshuang said to Xiao Zhongjing, "No need, I’ll go in and check it out. You stay here and keep watch. If anyone comes, just call out to me."
Xiao Zhongjing looked fearfully at the dark room inside the secret door, and despite his fear, couldn’t help but say, "You... why don’t you watch the door outside? You’re a girl, let me handle the dangerous stuff."
Seeing his terrified but still maintaining the ’manly’ fa?ade, Shuangshuang chuckled, "No need. If there is danger in there, me going in is safer than you."
Face flushing red, Xiao Zhongjing awkwardly pursed his lips, recalling Shuangshuang’s earlier feat of crushing bricks effortlessly, saying nothing more.
Shuangshuang, holding the flashlight, entered through the secret door. Inside was a narrow passage-like space. Holding her phone, Shuangshuang walked in.
The narrow passage stretched about seven or eight meters, leading to a turn at the end. As Shuangshuang turned the corner, her gaze led her to step back in fright, nearly screaming!
The room was empty with no deity statues or objects of any kind. The only thing present was row upon row of standing red figures!
Shuangshuang took a deep breath, suppressing the instinctive heart-racing reaction from suddenly seeing this scene, and lifted her phone again to shine light toward them.
Arrayed were figures dressed in red bridal attire, covered with headpieces, standing straight in the middle of the room, unmoving like sculptures.
Shuangshuang moved her phone around, examining the figures carefully, discovering that those dressed in bridal outfit were notably tall, with no signs of a chest, and the attire resembled ancient groom wear instead of women’s clothes.
Ghostly bridegrooms!
Shuangshuang suddenly recalled the hint given when entering the game. Could these be the ghostly bridegrooms sacrificed by the villagers?
Shuangshuang took out the short dagger from her weapon space, holding it in hand. With her left hand holding her phone, she approached the nearest red-clothed groom or bride, using the blade of her right hand to lift their headpiece.
Underneath the headpiece was a pale face with closed eyes, seemingly decorated meticulously pre-death, with styled brows and hair and lips painted in vivid rouge.
Despite the elaborate makeup, it was definitely a man’s face, the adam’s apple on the neck clearly visible—it was indeed a ghostly bridegroom.
Shuangshuang rotated her phone to continue observing. The room had over fifty ghostly bridegrooms, those closest to the inside wore faded, aged clothing.
Whereas the ghostly bridegroom whose headpiece Shuangshuang had lifted, closest to the outside, wore attire as vibrant as new; apparently, the most recently sacrificed.
Given the number of ghostly bridegrooms in the room, likely all sacrificed are gathered here, evident from the oldest attire being faded inside, and newest vibrant outside.
Shuangshuang carefully searched the room again, confirming that aside from rows of ghostly bridegrooms, nothing else existed.
Shuangshuang lifted several more headpieces, finding these ghostly bridegrooms were somehow preserved, vivid as if alive despite unknown time since death.
Stepping back several paces, prepared to leave, one ghostly bridegroom suddenly toppled over, collapsing toward Shuangshuang.
Shuangshuang hastily reached to steady the ghostly bridegroom, setting it upright, and in that moment of uprightness, she felt her head spin, suddenly blacking out.
Quickly releasing it, Shuangshuang shook her head, her vision returned, but upon reopening her eyes, she found herself not in the room filled with ghostly bridegrooms, but in Lao Mountain Village.
This Lao Mountain Village clearly wasn’t where Shuangshuang and the others initially arrived; many houses appeared much more dilapidated than what she had seen before.
It was nighttime in Lao Mountain Village, yet the village was brightly lit, countless villagers donning joyous red attire, carrying torches, gathered in a spacious square.
In the square’s center, a man was being pressed down by several villagers; his clothing and appearance were completely out of place with those of the village folks.
The man’s clothing was all luxury brands, costly, and his visage striking and vibe elegant, appearing as a corporate elite.
Though restrained, the man frantically struggled, yelling for the villagers to release him, yet clearly, no one paid him attention.
Beside the man, the much younger village chief elder was holding a cup, pouring the water into the man’s mouth.
While pouring, he muttered, "Stop struggling, you are fortunate to serve God. Come, drink this cup of Holy Water, and you will no longer resist."
Despite vehemently struggling, the man was made to drink the cup of so-called Holy Water by the village chief. After consuming, the once struggling man abruptly slumped, his gaze becoming increasingly vacant.
As the villagers saw the man cease struggling, they released their hold on him. Once freed, the man stood confused, unmoving.
Shuangshuang raised a brow; what Holy Water is this? It’s nothing but a cup of sedative. The name sounds quite refined.
With the man ceased resisting, the village chief promptly summoned the villagers to act together, dressing the man in groom attire, women came forward to apply resplendent makeup, covering him with a bright red veil.
