Chapter 1768: Chapter 1325: Courting Disaster Myself (3)

Cai Xiufang: "You! Nothing ever stays in your hands."

Kang Li: "Who says? My hands are tight, not like a sieve or a winnowing basket."

"You know yourself whether you’re a sieve or a winnowing basket."

Having money, but not knowing to save it, just spending it—but never on herself. Almost all of it goes towards the family, son-in-law, and a few kids, or she just takes out a bunch all at once to help the villagers do real things.

She might be a rural woman, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how much it costs to build roads, especially those wide, flat ones that are even better than the city’s—they take real money.

But still, her dear Li spends money without even blinking an eye.

"I’m not like that."

Kang Li replied very straightforwardly, and even smiled to curry favor.

"You... I really am at a loss with you!" She glared at her precious daughter, both doting and helpless. Cai Xiufang shook her head: "I know you’re smart, you make money easier than most, but you’ve spread yourself too thin. There are so many places that need money. Don’t just throw money at good deeds whenever you feel like it."

"Mom! I know you mean well, but you really don’t need to worry. I only take money out for roads or building a primary school in our village because I know exactly what I’m doing with my cash flow. Besides, the things I do are like accumulating good karma for all of us, so the people I love, and the ones who love me, can live safe lives without disasters or trouble."

Hearing this, Cai Xiufang had all sorts of feelings in her heart. She felt she’d raised her precious daughter to be too upright and honest, but truth be told, it’s not like she was upset about her daughter using money to do good for the villagers.

She’s just worried her Li would end up tight on cash and mess up her own business.

"Mom, Mom! I just saw little Hanhang—he was being carried by a bad auntie and was crying so hard!"

That was Guoguo’s voice. The little one tumbled in on her short legs from outside the door, looking up at Kang Li and Cai Xiufang sitting on the kang. "I’m telling the truth, Mom, I didn’t lie! If you don’t believe me, just ask fourth brother and fifth brother!"

Bun and Tangyuan squeezed through the doorway with six or seven other boys their age. They just happened to hear Guoguo’s words and nodded their little heads in agreement to Kang Li and Cai Xiufang.

"Guoguo’s right! Hanhang was being carried by a bad woman right past grandma’s front yard. That bad woman was dragging a big suitcase and wrapped herself up tightly with a scarf. She even patted Hanhang’s butt!"

Tangyuan added on to what Guoguo said.

"Hanhang?"

Kang Li’s eyes filled with confusion. "Whose kid is that? Mom, do you know?"

Of all the kids in the courtyard around Bun’s age, the ones he played with, she’d never heard of a Hanhang before.

Bun: "Mom, he’s not from our courtyard."

"So is he one of your kindergarten classmates?"

Kang Li asked.

"Nope."

Bun shook his head, his delicate little face tense. "He’s a kid from Brother Xiao Jing’s courtyard."

Kang Li frowned slightly. "What’s his full name?"

"Hu Yuhang."

Bun replied.

"So do you or your siblings know which house that woman—who took Hu Yuhang—went into?"

Kang Li got off the kang and put on her shoes, but Bun shook his head. "Mom, I don’t know those people."

"Mom! I’ll go get cousin Lin for you. He saw it too just now, and he’s still standing at the gate!"

Tangyuan said, and took his little legs pattering "da-da-da" out the door, running straight for the front gate.

A moment later, Kang Li ran into Kang Yilin in the yard.

"Auntie, the woman carrying the kid went into Uncle Xu’s house."

"..."

Could that woman be Xu Chunxia?

If it is, then what’s her connection to that kid called Hu Yuhang? Or maybe she’s a human trafficker who snatched a kid from outside and is hiding him in the village, waiting for a chance to sell him?

Kang Li didn’t want to think the worst of people, but given Xu Chunxia’s history, she couldn’t help but go there based on what Bun and the kids had just said.

"Auntie, I think that woman’s gotta be Xu Chunxia, but I don’t know where she got the kid."

Kang Yilin suddenly said.

Kang Li smiled. "Go play, Auntie knows now."

Seeing Bun, Tangyuan and their friends all looking at her, Kang Li smiled too, pulled out handfuls of White Rabbit candies from her coat pockets, and gave them to the kids playing with Bun and the others.

Alright, she’d actually gotten these straight from the system’s space.

"Go on now, go play."

Watching Kang Yilin lead Bun and the little ones out the yard, Kang Li glanced toward North City, then slowly closed her clear bright eyes, recalling the Xi family’s landline number.
