Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Werewolves Go Better with Beheading Swords
Late at night, in Daphne.
On a small hill outside the Royal Palace Castle.
Several figures stood silently, gazing at the swaying torchlight and the clamor of voices within the castle.
From within, shouts of battle and the violent crash of blows rang out intermittently, accompanied by booming rumbles and the ceaseless clang of steel.
"My three lady Witches, can that messenger truly convince the Human Queen? From the looks of it, he seems to have failed. Heh..."
A large, tall horse wreathed in eerie red flames snorted, breathing out fire as it spoke with a sneer.
Its long tail, composed entirely of flames, swayed gently, scattering sparks that danced in the midair like fireflies.
This was one of the four Monster Lords of the Magic Forest: the Flaming Demon Horse, Tariel.
As it spoke, it turned its head to the side. Beneath the night sky, its eyes glowed like two bright oil lamps.
It spoke, "Simon, what do you think?"
The one called Simon was another Monster Lord, the King of Granite from Silent Hill.
At the moment, however, he had taken the form of a creature the size of a human child, his body composed entirely of grayish-white stone. His head was especially large and round, his proportions jarringly mismatched.
"Umm... I don’t know. It’s too complicated."
Simon sat on the ground and tapped his large forehead with his hand, producing a dull THUD. Then, in a muffled, cold voice, he said:
"Why don’t we just attack now while the humans are killing each other? We’ll slaughter them all... Wouldn’t that solve everything?"
He had barely finished speaking when a shiny little leather shoe kicked him in the head with a THUMP, sending him staggering.
Simon cried out in pain, clutching his head with an aggrieved squawk. Like a roly-poly toy, his body wobbled and then sat upright again.
"Hey! Are you an idiot?!"
The Wolf Witch, Sofia, clad in her Red Cloak with her golden hair in twin ponytails, planted her hands on her hips and snapped, her pretty brows furrowed in anger.
"Do you really think Isabella is some mountain mascot like you? Believe it or not, the second you step foot in that castle, you’ll be frozen into an ice sculpture on the spot!"
"I’m sorry, Lady Sofia."
Simon said, clutching his head, his deep voice tinged with a sob.
Just then, the Sugar Witch Bev, dressed in a lavish, puffy golden-pink dress, spoke up.
"Let’s not be hasty. We’ll wait and see."
She toyed with a golden ringlet that hung over her forehead, then waved her hand. A brilliant mist of sugary dust swirled out, coalescing before them into an image—
The image showed two young, black-haired humans locked in fierce combat with the palace’s defense forces.
When she saw the Human Queen, dressed in a pure white nightgown, hiding behind Gai, Bev’s eyes narrowed.
Her red lips parted slightly as she said softly,
"It seems our dear messenger hasn’t failed after all. He’s just run into a little trouble."
"Should we go support him, Lady Bev?"
A beautiful, palm-sized Little Elf whispered.
She floated in midair, her colorful, iridescent wings beating so fast they left afterimages. Her entire body glowed with an emerald-green light.
This was Tomelese, the Flower Fairy, the beloved younger sister of the Monster Lord known as the Flower Prince.
"No need to rush," Bev said with a smile.
But her tone was strained, the words seemingly forced through gritted teeth.
She then asked the Little Elf,
"By the way, Thumbelina, did the Flower Prince, Diaz, only send you?"
"Of our four Lords, the Octopus Hermit, Kraken, has been corrupted by the black water, leaving only three... Simon’s true body is slumbering, so he can only act through an avatar with a fraction of his power. Tariel’s wounds haven’t fully healed, and Diaz refuses to come in person."
As she spoke, Bev shook her head and sighed.
The overall strength of the Magic Forest had been severely weakened.
"My brother is just too busy,"
Tomelese, the Flower Fairy nicknamed ’Thumbelina,’ hastily explained.
"Besides me, he also sent my sister... the Woodland Fairy. She should be on her way."
"Diaz is notoriously cowardly,"
the Flaming Demon Horse Tariel scoffed.
"The moment he heard we were attacking the Human Kingdom, he got scared and went into hiding. I bet he’s still terrified from his last encounter with the Ice and Snow Queen... I heard his wings were frozen solid. He couldn’t fly for over half a year and had to scurry through the muck every day like some pint-sized goblin."
"That’s nonsense!"
Tomelese flew in front of the Fire Horse, furious. Mimicking the Wolf Witch, she put her hands on her hips and shouted,
"My brother is not a coward! And he wasn’t mucking about in the mud! He’s just really, really busy!"
"SNORT—" Tariel snorted again. The burst of flame sent the flustered Flower Fairy scrambling away. "Busy? Busy searching for talented human girls to raise as Witches for the Flower Kingdom, you mean?"
The Flaming Demon Horse was openly contemptuous.
"Too many Forest Demons have died, so now he plans to raise human Witches as his subordinates... Only a coward like Diaz would come up with a plan like that!"
"Lady Tariel, you... you’re not allowed to say bad things about my brother!"
Tomelese shrieked.
"Or else... or else..."
"Or else you’ll come muck about on my head?"
"Of course not!"
"..."
A vein throbbed on Sofia’s forehead. Baring her teeth, she snarled, "Shut up!" The Flaming Demon Horse and the Flower Fairy stared at each other, neither daring to speak.
Just then, Lillian, the Fire Witch, who wore a white dress and had messy blonde hair, let out a soft gasp.
Everyone’s attention turned to her.
"What’s wrong, Lady Lillian?"
Tariel asked.
Lillian looked puzzled.
Her eyes fixed on the image in the sugary canvas as her cool, clear voice spoke,
"Mr. Jai... has one of Sofia’s Red Cloaks, too."
"Huh?!"
Sofia’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"I heard from Bev that he was always practicing picking locks behind the Candy House... So he was planning this all along, just to steal my clothes!"
"No wonder several pairs of my socks have gone missing lately! He must have stolen them!"
"What a pervert!"
BOOM!!!
Suddenly, a tremendous explosion erupted from the Royal Palace Castle, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
At the same time, the scrying image created by Bev’s Sugar Magic dissolved into dust and vanished.
"My Candy Crow was destroyed..."
Bev said, her lovely brow furrowed.
Immediately after, the Witches and Lords present all started in alarm, for they had all felt a powerful surge of Magic Power erupt from within the castle!
"Is that the aura of a Demon Wolf?!"
Sofia had the strongest reaction.
She whipped her head around to stare at the Royal Palace Castle.
"Why would a Demon Wolf be in human territory? And its aura is so strong... No, I have to go see for myself!"
With that, her small figure leaped into the air, clearing a distance of forty or fifty meters in a single bound as she flew off.
Her golden twin ponytails and wide Red Cloak streamed in the night wind, and in the blink of an eye, she vanished from sight.
"Sofia!"
Bev called out, but got no answer. She couldn’t help but frown and mutter, "That troublesome girl."
"We’ll follow her, in case she causes any trouble... Conceal yourselves and do not, under any circumstances, engage. Isabella will sense it."
"Yes, Lady Bev."
The figures on the hill flickered and vanished.
...
...
At this moment, before the Queen’s Tower in the Royal Palace Castle.
Beneath the cold, desolate moonlight.
The wide-open plaza was littered with corpses and the wreckage of Mechanical Dolls. The stone pavement was cratered and uneven—a scene of total devastation.
A deathly silence fell over the scene.
Everyone present—including Calvin, the members of the Swordsmen and Warlock Corps, Pinocchio, and the Queen—stared in horror toward the center of the plaza.
There stood a humanoid Demon Wolf, nearly three meters tall, draped in a crimson cloak with its face hidden by a hood!
Thick, black-and-gray fur swayed in the night wind. Its massive claws gripped a silver-gray, Flat-Headed Beheading Sword. The blade reflected the cold moonlight and dripped with blood.
Just moments before—
the Warlock named Gai Farrell had, in full view of everyone, donned a crimson cloak and transformed in the blink of an eye into a humanoid Demon Wolf.
In a single exchange, he had cleaved three Swordsmen and five Mechanical Dolls in half with his Beheading Sword. It was a massacre, like slaughtering chickens, and it sent the onlookers scrambling backward in terror.
Even the strongest among them—Calvin, Bertrand, and Franz—wore expressions of deep apprehension, not daring to advance rashly.
’Mmm—so this is the power of a Demon Wolf?’
The Werewolf grinned, baring its bone-white fangs and letting out a deep, resonant laugh.
"How wonderful! Gyehehehe!"
A chill ran down the spines of everyone present.
’An unparalleled power is coursing through my body,’ Wang Xi thought, ’a seemingly endless strength that creates a powerful urge to unleash it.’
’The desire for slaughter is growing.’
—Wolf Witch’s Red Cloak—
’I’ve finally played my trump card: the Blue One Star Artifact Card.’
’After transforming into the humanoid Demon Wolf, the most immediate change is that my physical strength has leaped several tiers.’
’If my original Physique was comparable to a Whiteboard Four Stars, then now, I’ve definitely reached the Five-Star level!’
’I feel as if I could kill the Demon Hunter Colin with a single punch. A full-powered swing of my sword could even cleave an Elite Demon like a Darkened Land Turtle in two, shell and all!’
’It’s that simple, that brutal!’
’No wonder Sofia, despite her tiny size, always came off as so arrogant... ’
’As the king of the Demon Wolves,’
’she has every right to be.’
"A Demon Wolf?!"
Just then, Calvin’s shocked and furious voice rang out from within his full-faced, onion-domed helmet.
He pointed at the cloaked Werewolf and roared,
"Gai Farrell! You really are a spy sent by the Witches! To curry favor with those filthy whores, you’ve even abandoned your humanity to willingly become a Demon!"
"Excellent! Today, in the name of the people of the Stag Kingdom, I will eradicate this vile tumor!"
"Oh?"
Wang Xi stretched his long, lupine jaws into a ghastly smile. Though most of his face was hidden in the shadow of the hood, it couldn’t conceal the pure ferocity he exuded.
"I was just wondering how I was going to catch you, but I never expected you’d get brave enough to circle back for another attack just because you put on some tin armor... The ignorant know no fear."
"If you want to kill me, then by all means, try—"
The words had barely left his lips.
The three-meter-tall humanoid Demon Wolf blurred into an afterimage, leaving only a streak of crimson in the onlookers’ vision.
"Kill him! Kill him!!"
Calvin’s scalp prickled with fear as he shrieked hoarsely.
With a great CLATTER, the Mechanical Puppet Legion behind him swarmed toward the Demon Wolf like a dark tide.
The dozen or so survivors from the Swordsmen and Warlock Corps gritted their teeth and once again raised their longswords and magic staves.
But with a sharp CLANG—
the Beheading Sword swept out, decapitating several Mechanical Dolls. The towering figure charged through their ranks, unstoppable, as if wading through an empty field!
