Chapter 144: Chapter 143: Reinforcements Have Arrived
"What is that—?"
The gray-black blizzard drastically reduced visibility. Even with the extraordinary eyesight of the three Knight Level Warriors, it was difficult to make out what was in the sky. All they could hear was a shrill, piercing whistle that grew louder and louder as it approached at an incredible speed!
But soon, their confusion would be resolved.
Because the unidentified flying object had crashed, and not too far from where they stood!
The tremendous noise and violent tremors were impossible for anyone to miss.
As the meteorite-like impact rippled outward, it seemed to trigger a chain reaction in the surrounding blizzard!
Countless resentful spirits shrieked as they emerged from the snowstorm, frantically surging toward the crash site!
They completely ignored Paris and his men, their target clearly the source that had provoked them.
These ghastly white shadows swept past the sides of Paris’s party, over their heads, and even through the gaps between them, leaving the men trembling and chilled to the bone!
’How could there be so many resentful spirits in this town? If these monsters had all attacked us at once, how could we possibly still be alive?’
Soon, the spirits thinned out. But everyone knew it wasn’t because they had disappeared; it was because they had all gone to join the "siege"!
After a moment of silence, determination returned to Paris’s eyes.
"Notary, we’re going to take a look."
"Lord Paris! You mustn’t!"
Notary and Hank were aghast, both speaking up to dissuade him.
"This is too strange. It’s far too dangerous to investigate. We should fall back to the mansion and regroup with our main force to ensure our safety!"
Everyone knew this was the most prudent course of action.
Once they concentrated their forces, they would have six Knights and over thirty Soldiers. They would have options no matter what they faced.
But with their current lineup of just three Knights and ten Soldiers, what would they do if they encountered an enemy they couldn’t fight?
If anything happened to their lord, even paying with their lives wouldn’t be enough for Notary and Hank to atone!
But Paris shook his head, his stance firm.
"Let me ask you, in the five days we’ve been locked in a stalemate with the Eternal Frost Cultists, has anything like this ever happened?"
"My lord, it’s true, nothing like this has—"
"This could very well be a diversion created by the enemy. But what if it’s reinforcements?"
Paris cut off his two loyal Knights, firing back with another question.
"It’s also possible they fought tooth and nail to break through the blizzard, drawing the attention of the Eternal Frost Cultists. That could be why we weren’t attacked when we came out this time, right?"
"If we shrink back now and let our reinforcements face a siege alone, wouldn’t we be throwing away our last shred of hope?"
The rest of Notary’s words of caution caught in his throat, unable to escape.
After five days in this godforsaken place, how could he not be desperate for reinforcements to arrive?
But his lord’s safety came first!
At this thought, his expression turned solemn.
"My lord, please return to the mansion. Locke and I can go investigate—"
"Hah... Oh, my loyal Notary..."
Paris glanced around, took a deep breath of the bone-chilling air, and actually let out a soft laugh.
"In a godforsaken place like this, where could we possibly hide that would be safe? It’s just a matter of dying sooner or later—"
As he spoke, he raised his sword, pointed it in the direction the resentful spirits were swarming, and commanded in a deep voice.
"In the name of Paris Manola! My Knights, my Soldiers, obey my command!"
Notary and Locke immediately lowered their heads in silence. The other Soldiers straightened their backs, their expressions grave.
"Locke, take two Soldiers, return to the mansion, and inform everyone of the situation. Tell Lady Michelle to be ready to provide support at a moment’s notice."
"Notary, you will take the rest of the men and go with me to investigate the source of this anomaly!"
"Yes, my lord!"
When a Lord gave an order in his full name, no questions were permitted.
His vassals had no choice but to obey!
The group quickly began to move, following Paris’s command.
Locke and his two men returned to the mansion, while the rest pushed forward against the blizzard.
Along the way, they met up with the three-man scouting party, who had found nothing, and their forces were bolstered.
Soon, the source of the anomaly appeared in their line of sight.
—
"Hahaha—you filthy resentful spirits! Witness the wrath of my master!"
Xia laughed maniacally as she unleashed her Power to its absolute limit. A torrent of golden flames erupted from her Armor, brilliantly illuminating the surroundings.
The fearless resentful spirits that charged her crashed into the searing, righteous flames and were reduced to wisps of green smoke with a SIZZLE, not even having time to scream.
The young woman’s bell-like laughter pierced the blizzard, brimming with the exhilarating thrill of battle.
"Hahaha—Come on, bring it on!"
"Sister, conserve your Power!"
Xina’s voice remained calm. She crossed her hands over her chest, and a soft Holy Radiance flowed from her palms, forming a translucent golden barrier that precisely blocked several pale claws swiping at them from the side.
The barrier and claws collided with a piercing HISS.
Her golden eyes scanned intently at the enemies continuously materializing from the blizzard as she maintained the barrier’s stability, creating a safe combat zone for her companions.
With one on offense and the other on defense, the two sisters single-handedly blocked the majority of the resentful spirits.
Meanwhile, Jon and Big Mimi were engaged in a battle of pure, brute force.
Jon, wreathed in flames, was like a fire demon straight out of Hell. With every move, he unleashed endless fire that dispelled the cold and vaporized the resentful spirits, pushing the Power of his Dragon Flame Dance to its peak.
Big Mimi kept its body low, guarding its master’s flank. Its thick scorpion tail, radiating a chill that could freeze the air, swept out like a steel whip, sending any stragglers that dared to approach flying.
The man and beast fought with perfect coordination, carving out their own stable foothold in the Sea of Resentful Spirits.
The fierce battle seemed to have even pushed back the blizzard slightly. The golden Holy Radiance and the faint glow of Crystal Armor pierced through the leaden-gray gloom, appearing exceptionally brilliant.
"Look! It really is reinforcements!"
On the other side of the blizzard, Paris Manola, who had witnessed the scene, abruptly straightened his back. The fatigue and despair of the past several days were instantly swept away by the sight of these god-sent warriors. A fervent light erupted in his ice-blue eyes!
He raised his Longsword high, his voice trembling slightly with excitement.
"Charge! Go support our champions! For Birchwood!"
"For our Lord! For Birchwood!"
The fighting spirit that Knight Notary had suppressed for so long ignited in his chest. He let out a fierce roar as deep blue Battle Qi erupted from his body, and he shot forward like an arrow loosed from its bow.
"Kill—!"
The guards following close behind also let out a heaven-shaking roar.
The pent-up frustration and anger from days of being besieged and trapped in the isolated mansion finally found an outlet.
They no longer cared about the bone-piercing cold. Braving the blizzard, they followed their Lord and Knight Commander like tigers unleashed from a cage, brandishing their weapons as they fearlessly crashed into the surging swarm of resentful spirits!
