Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Power of the Divine Favored
Jon instinctively moved to use Blood of the Earth to Cure Abnormal Status again.
However, as the gentle yet profound Power of the earth washed over his body and began to restore him, it failed to remove the sensation of being locked on!
’This is bad... This isn’t an abnormal status...’
As that greedy "will" gradually extended its tendrils from the vortex, Jon felt his consciousness become incredibly slow.
He wanted to escape, but it was as if his body wasn’t receiving his brain’s signals. Even twitching a finger was a distant hope. All he could hear were the muffled voices of others behind him.
"My Lord... please..."
"Save... him..."
"Kid... don’t move..."
It was Joyina, Evans, and the Shadow Mage named Ivory. But without exception, their voices all sounded as if they had been slowed down several times over—comical and abstract...
Among them, only one familiar voice was a bit faster than the others.
"Jo—on—"
It was the difference between being slowed tenfold and only twofold... And... it seemed to be approaching rapidly?
"Mis-ter!!!"
The instant his ears fully registered the word, Jon felt himself flying.
He was literally "flying"!
A tremendous Power grabbed him and yanked him into the air. His sluggish consciousness began to clear!
A moment later, he landed in the snow after a dizzying tumble. The freezing sensation jolted him fully awake.
"What’s going on!"
He shot his head up and saw Reya.
But the red-haired girl before him was completely transformed.
She knelt by his side, her flaming long hair dancing wildly without any wind. Every strand flowed with a molten-gold luster, as if woven from liquid sunlight.
Her emerald eyes had completely transformed into two burning, miniature suns, projecting a piercing, majestic, and divine light. Beneath her fair skin, brilliant golden patterns flowed and pulsed like the surging Blood of the Sun.
A layer of Saint Flame, so condensed it seemed tangible, enveloped her in a constant radiance of light and heat. She looked like a living Sun Saint Statue walking the mortal world.
It was she who had grabbed Jon by his Armor and dragged him away from that soul-devouring vortex of death!
Seeing Reya like this, Jon was momentarily speechless, his ice-blue pupils contracting in shock.
This was the future Flame-haired Princess’s signature Saint Spirit Stance!
’But isn’t this a move she’s only supposed to use freely once she reaches the Advanced Level? She’s only at the Apprentice Level right now!’
Seeing Jon’s dazed expression, the anxiety on Reya’s face deepened.
"Mr. Jon! Are you okay!!"
Forgetting all about her divine majesty, she began to frantically pat him down, her movements quick and urgent.
Her fingertips, wreathed in Saint Flame, carried a searing heat as they moved anxiously and clumsily over his body—checking his neck, his chest, his arms—just as he had once checked on her.
"Did that thing touch you? Does it hurt anywhere? I saw you couldn’t move just now..."
The girl’s voice was rushed and held the faint tremor of tears, but the pure concern within it was like the purest sunlight, warming Jon’s heart.
He stared at her, dazed.
That face, which looked all the more otherworldly under the glow of the brilliant Saint Flame, was now etched with the anxiety and fear that belonged only to the human named Reya Xavier.
He realized the truth: her immense Power had erupted to protect him. Her current panic and loss of composure were solely out of worry for him.
An indescribable emotion stirred in his heart.
Jon instinctively reached out. Just as her small hands, still anxiously searching his body, moved toward his abdomen, he firmly but gently caught one of them.
The wrist, wreathed in Saint Flame, was astonishingly slender. Yet, to his touch, it possessed a surprising heat and an indescribable resilience.
"I’m fine."
His voice was a bit hoarser than he had expected, but exceptionally clear.
"A few scrapes, that’s all. I’m really okay. It’s all thanks to you."
Reya’s movements froze instantly. Where Jon held her wrist, the Saint Flame seemed to flicker slightly.
But Jon wasn’t finished.
"We’re running out of time. Deal with that vortex—!"
"Ah—"
The girl finally realized that in her panic over Jon’s safety, she had completely ignored the greatest threat!
But when she turned to look at the vortex, it had already begun to change!
The previously fist-sized gray vortex suddenly expanded several times over, like an inflating malignant tumor!
A viscous, filthy, grayish-white mist—saturated with an even denser miasma of curses and despair—gushed from the vortex’s center like countless venomous tentacles!
No longer spreading slowly, the tendrils surged with clear, malicious intent, aimed directly at the newly landed Jon and Reya!
Wherever the mist passed, the thin snow instantly dissolved. The flagstones beneath it crisped and crumbled, and a nauseating stench filled the air!
Faced with this terrifying sight, Reya faltered for a brief second. But almost immediately, a resolute will rose within her, banishing all weakness!
’Mr. Jon saved me. Now, it’s my turn to protect him! I can’t back down!’
The determination to protect him blazed in the young woman’s burning eyes!
She took a deep breath. Then, as Jon watched in mild surprise, she released his hand and slowly clasped her own together before her chest.
She remained kneeling, her head slightly bowed. Her fiery hair cascaded down, partially obscuring the golden patterns on her cheeks and revealing only a profile of absolute piety and solemnity. As she moved, the brilliant Saint Flame that had been burning around her body began to recede, converging inward.
From a distance, Joyina saw this and couldn’t help but clasp her own hands, murmuring.
"Oh, my Lord..."
After settling into the prayerful posture, Reya began to speak softly.
"I pray to you—"
"O, Supreme, Blazing Sun, master of endless light, sovereign of endless heat—"
As the prayer began, an invisible, suffocating pressure exploded outward from Reya.
It was more magnificent, more vast, and more irresistible than the pressure summoned by the Evil Mage before!
"O, Po Ao!"
"Please grant me the Power to purge evil!"
The instant the final word was spoken, as if in answer to her most pious prayer, an irresistible, immense power tore a massive, circular hole through the gloomy, snow-filled clouds hanging over Birch Town.
BOOM!!!
A colossal pillar of light, its splendor beyond description, descended with a deafening roar. Like a spear of judgment hurled by a god, it fell from beyond the highest heavens—from the very source of the Sun itself!
It pierced the hole in the clouds with perfect precision, ignoring all distance. Carrying an absolute divine might that would purge all filth and a terrifying heat that seemed capable of setting the very earth ablaze, it struck down with unstoppable force!
Its target was the core of the vortex spewing the filthy gray mist!
