Longevity: My Cheat Unlocked in My Old Age

Chapter 70: Ancient Teleportation Array

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Ancient Teleportation Array

Inside the Immortal Peach Mountain cavern residence.

Li Ping and Zhang Tie sat facing each other in the pavilion.

Zhang Tie said with a solemn expression, "Big Brother, the shop has been receiving a lot more Demon Beast Hides recently. According to the Loose Cultivators who come to sell them, the number of Low-Tier Demon Beasts near the Immortal City has suddenly increased for some unknown reason."

"More Low-Tier Demon Beasts?" Li Ping’s expression grew thoughtful. ’Is a beast tide about to erupt?’

Fenglan Immortal City was situated deep within the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, allowing its Cultivators to more conveniently access the range’s abundant resources and hunt Demon Beasts.

But there were always two sides to a coin.

The greatest disadvantage of the Immortal City’s location was that it had to directly face the beast tides that erupted from the Cloud Mist Mountain Range.

Demon Beasts reproduced at an astonishing rate. Whenever the mountain range’s ecosystem could no longer support their numbers, the Tier Three Demon Kings within would consciously drive the Low-Tier Demon Beasts outward.

This massive flood of Low-Tier Demon Beasts pouring out from the Cloud Mist Mountain Range was what formed a beast tide.

Li Ping had only been in the Immortal City for a little over twenty years and had yet to experience a beast tide.

However, he had read the relevant records. He knew that beast tides were composed almost entirely of Tier One Demon Beasts, with very few Tier Two Demon Beasts, and Tier Three Demon Beasts almost never appeared.

Experience suggested that with the protection of a Tier Three Array, a beast tide composed mainly of Tier One and Tier Two Demon Beasts would be unable to break through the Immortal City’s defenses.

Even if one or two Tier Three Demon Beasts attacked the city, as long as Fenglan Master took action, it could be defended, albeit at a certain cost.

Therefore, even knowing a beast tide might be coming, Li Ping wasn’t in a hurry to pack his valuables and flee.

The main reason was that there might still be people waiting for him in the shadows outside. If not for that, the safer course of action would have been to leave the Immortal City and only return after the beast tide had passed.

Li Ping spoke up. "By the way, since it looks like a beast tide is coming, remind Teng Feng not to leave the city for a while."

Ever since resigning from his position at the Spirit Beast garden, Teng Feng had been adventuring alone outside the Immortal City. That was fine under normal circumstances, but if he kept roaming so carelessly during a beast tide, the chances of something happening to him would increase dramatically.

Zhang Tie nodded. "Don’t worry, Big Brother. I’ll pass on the message if I see him."

After informing Li Ping about the suspected beast tide, Zhang Tie departed in a hurry.

Not long after, Gumu Sheng came to pay his respects to Li Ping. As a businessman, he was always extremely sensitive to market prices.

He mentioned worriedly that the prices of low-tier items like Talismans, Pills, and Dharma Artifacts were all rising slightly. Even the cost of various raw materials was quietly climbing.

He was worried that something major was about to happen in the Immortal City.

However, when he learned from Li Ping that these changes were likely because a beast tide was about to erupt, his expression immediately turned to one of excitement.

Gumu Sheng cursed, "Those damned profiteers! No wonder prices are going up. They’re hoarding goods, every last one of them, trying to cash in on the coming chaos!"

After his tirade, he proposed an idea to Li Ping, asking to borrow Spirit Stones. "Big Brother, if this beast tide really happens, it’s a golden opportunity to get rich! Right now, the people with inside information are secretly buying up stock. If we hoard goods too and then sell them off when the beast tide hits, we could make at least a seventy or eighty percent profit in a short time. Big Brother, could you lend me some Spirit Stones? When we make a profit, we’ll split it seventy-thirty, in your favor!"

Li Ping was speechless. The image of his third brother cursing the profiteers was still fresh in his mind. ’How can he want to become a profiteer himself just moments later?’

But he had to admit, it was indeed a good opportunity to make a fortune. Li Ping didn’t have the time or inclination to handle it himself, so entrusting it to Gumu Sheng was perfect.

Thinking of this, he took out two thousand Spirit Stones and gave them to Gumu Sheng, not forgetting to add a word of caution, "The beast tide is just speculation. Don’t overleverage yourself!"

Gumu Sheng’s eyes gleamed with excitement. "Don’t worry, Big Brother, I know what I’m doing!"

In his mind, however, he was already scheming how to use the Spirit Stones his Big Brother had lent him, along with his own hard-earned savings, to make a huge score.

’The opportunities to change one’s fate in life are few and far between,’ he thought. ’I have to seize every single one!’

...

In an underground cavern, thousands of miles from the Immortal City.

Teng Feng stared in disbelief at the scene before him. He had originally fled into this underground cavern in a panic, without looking where he was going, to escape a swarm of Bloodthirsty Ants comparable to the Tier One Late Stage.

But to his surprise, in the center of the very cavern he had hastily hidden in, there was a four-sided, palace-like building enveloped in a multi-colored dome of light.

’A fortuitous encounter, or...?’ Teng Feng cautiously flew closer on his Magical Artifact, circling the protective Array to inspect it carefully.

Before long, not far outside the Array, he discovered a skeleton. There was no telling how long it had been dead. The Magic Robe it wore appeared to be intact, but when a gentle breeze stirred by Teng Feng’s movements blew past, the ornate robe instantly crumbled to dust.

’Someone actually died here! This place is dangerous!’ Shocked, Teng Feng became even more cautious.

He patiently and carefully inspected the entire cavern, which spanned dozens of miles, finally confirming that there were no dangers within it.

Returning to the skeleton, Teng Feng bowed deeply. "Senior, please forgive this junior’s impertinence."

This wasn’t his first time discovering the cavern residence of a fallen cultivator.

Even though the Senior before him was long dead, since he was about to search through their remains, Teng Feng still offered an apology first—not that they could possibly hear him.

To Teng Feng’s mixed delight and dismay, the Storage Bag he found on the skeleton was still perfectly intact, but the many Spirit Grasses and Pills inside had all spoiled and were unusable.

The Dharma Artifacts and Spirit Talismans had all lost their spiritual power as well.

Only a small, palm-sized sword had survived the unknown passage of time, still brimming with spiritual power.

Besides the small sword, Teng Feng also finally found what appeared to be the Token used to control the protective Array.

He didn’t rush into the Array to search for Treasure. Instead, he dug a pit nearby and buried the skeleton and all its belongings, giving the Senior a proper burial.

Only then did he take out the Array’s access Token and cautiously enter.

Once inside, Teng Feng searched the area within the Array as a matter of habit before carefully walking into the tall palace.

The moment he entered the palace, he was stunned by the sight before him. "This... This is a legendary Teleportation Array!"

In the center of the grand hall stood a rustic, octagonal platform, looking exactly like the Teleportation Arrays described in a book of miscellany he had once read.

And judging by its appearance, the Teleportation Array was clearly still intact.

There was no telling where the Teleportation Array led. As a mere Qi Refining Fifth Level cultivator, Teng Feng certainly didn’t dare to use it rashly.

Who knew what he might encounter on the other side?

He meticulously searched the area around the Teleportation Array.

But to his disappointment, there was nothing inside the Array except for this rustic Octagonal Teleportation Array.

Teng Feng glanced at the Teleportation Array and left without hesitation. ’I’ll head back to the Immortal City and ask Big Brother to come explore this with me.’
