Chapter 442: Chapter 381: I Trust You’ve Been Well, Lin Yu
The room was empty except for a long table and several chairs.
After he was brought in, the soldiers who escorted him remained on guard outside.
A short while later, someone brought him a glass of warm water.
They left without a word after setting the glass down.
He only waited for about three to five minutes.
When footsteps sounded from outside again, Lin Dazhi quickly stood up and looked out the window.
But the moment he saw Liu Hongmei...
...his heart sank into his stomach.
’What’s going on? How did Liu Hongmei get arrested too?’
Just as Lin Dazhi was growing frantic with worry, Liu Hongmei was brought in, just like him.
She was escorted into the conference room.
The moment they saw each other, they both became incredibly agitated.
Liu Hongmei, in particular, had red-rimmed eyes brimming with tears.
"Dazhi, what... what on earth is going on?"
"I don’t know either. I had just gotten off work and was downstairs from our apartment when some people from the police department brought me here.
What about you? Why are you here too?"
Lin Dazhi asked, his face a mask of confusion.
Liu Hongmei’s answer was the same as Lin Dazhi’s.
She was given no reason, just taken away as she was walking out of the factory gate.
"They told me it was to assist in some kind of investigation.
It can’t be that Lin Yu did something wrong, and that’s why they brought us..."
Before Lin Dazhi could finish, Liu Hongmei cut him off, displeased.
"How could it be Xiaoyu? He’s so well-behaved, going to school and coming home every day. What crime could he possibly commit?"
"Oh, right—could it be Lin Yi? Did he get into trouble in the New District and drag us into it?"
Liu Hongmei’s words made Lin Dazhi’s expression darken.
"I know Lin Yi’s personality. He doesn’t have the guts. Besides, even if he committed a crime in the New District, what does that have to do with us? It can’t be him!"
"So you’re saying it must be Xiaoyu? Don’t you know what he’s like these days? He goes to school on time, comes straight home after, and doesn’t even go to the Martial Arts Hall anymore!"
"What kind of trouble could he get into? Even if he got into a fight with a classmate, it wouldn’t be serious enough to get us brought to a military base, would it?"
The two of them stuck to their guns, neither willing to admit it was their son who had caused the trouble.
And just as they were arguing endlessly,
a middle-aged man in a military uniform walked in.
He glanced at them and said with a smile, "Why are you two arguing?"
"Please, have a seat. I’ve called you here today hoping you can cooperate with an investigation."
"There’s no need to be nervous. Sit down."
After he finished speaking, several more people filed in from outside.
However, they weren’t in military uniforms; they were all in plainclothes.
Liu Hongmei recognized one of them.
He was one of the men who had come to the factory to get her, though he hadn’t gotten out of the car.
It was only after she got in the car that she saw him sitting in the front passenger seat.
The couple exchanged a look before obediently sitting down.
The other men all sat down across from them.
Once the conference room door was closed,
the middle-aged man in the uniform glanced at the plainclothes man beside him.
"Captain Wei, if you have any questions, just ask them directly."
Hearing this, Wei Shang nodded with a faint smile.
His gaze then fell upon Lin Dazhi and Liu Hongmei across from him.
A single look from him was enough to make the couple feel unnerved.
"Names?"
"I-I-I, I’m Lin Dazhi, and this is my wife, Liu Hongmei!"
"Officers, I’d like to ask, why exactly have you brought us here?"
As soon as he spoke, Wei Shang glanced at him with an amused smile.
"Lin Dazhi, just answer my questions. Don’t ask any of your own."
"We will make everything clear to you in due time."
Hearing this, Lin Dazhi and Liu Hongmei exchanged a look.
They both nodded, not daring to say anything more.
After a long moment, Wei Shang studied them for a second before continuing with a smile, "How about this? Let’s just have a little chat."
"You have a son named Lin Yu, correct?"
"He’s currently attending Xinghai City Third Middle School? A junior, about to take the Martial Exam?"
Wei Shang’s words,
sent a tremor through the hearts of both Lin Dazhi and Liu Hongmei.
Lin Dazhi, in particular, couldn’t help but glance back at Liu Hongmei.
His eyes seemed to say,
’See?’
’It is about Lin Yu after all, isn’t it?’
Liu Hongmei, on the other hand, grew visibly terrified and uneasy.
Her mind raced, replaying every one of Lin Yu’s recent actions and behaviors.
She went over it all in her head.
However, she couldn’t think of anything wrong he had done.
It was just as she had said: he went to school on time in the morning,
and came straight home after school, not even going to the Martial Arts Hall.
Once home, he would stay obediently in his room.
’How could he possibly get into trouble? And what kind of trouble could he even get into at home?’
"Our Xiaoyu, he goes to school on time and comes right home after. He... he couldn’t have gotten into trouble, could he? Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? That you have the wrong people?"
Liu Hongmei said, her eyes red.
At this, Wei Shang suddenly let out a chuckle.
"Who said he’s in trouble?"
"I don’t believe I ever said anything of the sort, did I?"
"Huh?"
Lin Dazhi was dumbfounded, and Liu Hongmei looked just as bewildered.
’If no one was in trouble, why bring them here?’
’And what was all that about assisting in an investigation?’
Seeing their blank expressions, Wei Shang continued with a smile, "We’re just having a chat, shooting the breeze."
"Don’t read too much into it."
"So, about your son Lin Yu... I hear his talent for Martial Arts is quite good?"
