The NO.1 Food Stall in the Wasteland

Chapter 326: Cheesy Pickup Lines

Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Cheesy Pickup Lines

After being driven off the set, Shen Lu didn’t leave right away. She found a rather conspicuous spot and waited.

Xue Can asked, confused, "Boss Shen, is there something else?"

Shen Lu watched Qin Shuangshu, who was looking all around. "The person I’m waiting for is here."

Qin Shuangshu quickly found Shen Lu, walked over, and invited her up to a room.

The lower floors of the Chenhai Building were a shopping mall, the middle floors were offices, and the top floor was residential.

However, the elevators for each section weren’t interconnected. They were all dedicated elevators.

Li Zexing had an apartment in the Chenhai Building that he rarely used. He would occasionally host friends there whom he couldn’t very well bring home, so a cleaner came by regularly to tidy up and restock fruits and tea bags for guests.

Qin Shuangshu keyed in the code to open the door and invited Shen Lu and Xue Can inside.

"So, Boss Shen, what brings you to see Ze Xing today?"

Li Zexing might have been a bit of a jerk, but he still had his principles.

Having accepted gifts from others makes one feel indebted. Since he had eaten Shen Lu’s food, he naturally had to ask what she wanted.

But since the director had gotten angry and thrown them out, as the lead actor, he couldn’t openly defy the director. So, he had Qin Shuangshu handle it.

Shen Lu pursed her lips and mentally cursed Li Zexing.

’His personality is so annoying.’

"I want to buy some of Li Zexing’s merchandise. Preferably a large quantity."

It wasn’t right to always be taking things for free. Shen Lu planned to buy enough merchandise in one go to last her for half a year.

Qin Shuangshu had thought Shen Lu was going to ask for a difficult favor, but it turned out she just wanted to buy some merchandise.

He asked Shen Lu to wait a moment, then sent a message to his assistant to check their merchandise inventory. He then offered to sell it all to her at a significant discount to clear out their stock.

After all, Li Zexing’s new show was set to release over the New Year. There would be new merchandise then, so clearing this old stock out now would also free up a lot of space.

"I’ll have someone deliver it to your shop tomorrow, Boss Shen."

"Thank you."

With their business concluded, Shen Lu got up to leave.

"Oh, right, Boss Shen," Qin Shuangshu called out to her. "Um, the food you brought today... there’s really nothing wrong with it, is there?"

Qin Shuangshu finally voiced the concern that had been weighing on his mind.

It wasn’t that he suspected Shen Lu of intentionally trying to harm Li Zexing, but rather that he was afraid her good intentions might cause a disaster.

This show was a crucial turning point in Li Zexing’s career; he couldn’t afford even the slightest mishap.

"Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with it. I tasted it myself before I brought it over, and everyone at the shop ate some too. We’re all perfectly fine."

Qin Shuangshu breathed a sigh of relief. "My apologies, Boss Shen. It’s not that I don’t trust you."

"It’s fine."

After seeing Shen Lu and Xue Can off, Qin Shuangshu returned to the set. Li Zexing was sitting quietly in a chair, reading his script.

Hearing the familiar footsteps, Li Zexing asked without looking up, "She came for the merchandise, didn’t she?"

"How did you guess?"

"What else? Did you think she was a fan who came all this way just to visit me on set?" There wasn’t a trace of adoration in that girl’s eyes when she looked at him; it was like she was looking at a bouquet of flowers.

"She said she wanted to buy, so I sold her everything left in the warehouse at a low price." Qin Shuangshu sat down beside him. "What on earth were you thinking today? Why did you let those two onto the set?"

Li Zexing was always very serious about his work. Normally, he wouldn’t even let Princess Ruoxin visit the set more than a few times, let alone Shen Lu and Shen Lan.

Li Zexing gave a meaningful smile but didn’t answer.

’What other reason could there be? It was to kill with a borrowed knife, of course.’

Shen Lan was getting too annoying, constantly finding him to chat about this and that. But out of consideration for Lin Xin, he couldn’t just ignore her completely.

Asking Princess Ruoxin to keep her in check would be overkill. Besides, Princess Ruoxin was no pushover herself and would be a huge hassle to deal with.

But Shen Lu was different.

She had a natural conflict with Shen Lan. Most importantly, her combat power was off the charts. She was effective and wouldn’t cause any blowback—the perfect person to use as a ’borrowed knife’.

See? This time, all she did was open a food container, and she’d already sent the annoying Shen Lan into a complete rout.

At the thought of it, Li Zexing’s mouth started watering again.

The stewed meats Shen Lu had brought were just too delicious.

While Qin Shuangshu was gone just now, he had already polished off all the stewed meats, leaving only two pizzas and the lemon black tea.

Unlike Li Zexing, Qin Shuangshu was a real foodie. He had wanted a bite the moment he smelled the fragrant stewed meats Shen Lu brought, but then the argument had broken out, attracting the director’s attention.

Now that he’d finished the task Li Zexing had given him, he matter-of-factly reached for the food container.

’Huh? Where are the duck feet? The pork belly? The pig trotters? Why are there only two pizzas left?!’

"Ze Xing, I thought you weren’t interested in food?" Qin Shuangshu said accusingly.

"The pizzas and the lemon black tea are mine. If you want to eat, go buy it yourself," Li Zexing said ruthlessly.

"!" Qin Shuangshu’s eyes widened in shock.

’Was this the Li Zexing he knew?’

’When had he become so stingy?!’

...

Shen Lu got back to the shop right around five-thirty. She decided not to make anything else for dinner. After all, she had a huge pot of stewing broth. Why not just boil a bunch of noodles and mix them with the broth? It would be heavenly.

In any case, she had no plans to sell the stewed meats and broth made from the Advanced recipe for now. She would just use them to satisfy her own cravings.

’A person has to be good to themselves, of course.’

Shen Lu boiled four large packets of dried noodles and blanched some green vegetables. She gave everyone a piece of pig trotter, five slices of pork belly, and a stewed egg. Pickled vegetables were placed on the table for everyone to help themselves.

For a moment, the only sound in the fast-food restaurant was the SLURP SLURP of noodles being eaten. Everyone had their heads buried in their food, eating as if they were afraid that if they slowed down, they’d miss out.

The cleanup afterward wasn’t Shen Lu’s responsibility. She went upstairs with Fu Cheng, planning to rest for a bit, take a shower, watch some TV, and then head to bed.

Fu Cheng called out to her, "Little Deer."

"Hm? What is it?"

"The stewed meats today were very special."

"Especially delicious, right?"

’I didn’t expect Fu Cheng to know cheesy pickup lines.’

"No, I mean its effect on soothing the Spiritual Sea is better." Fu Cheng said cautiously. "The effect isn’t very obvious. Only someone like me, who is particularly sensitive to their Spiritual Sea, would be able to notice."

"Oh, is that so." Shen Lu blinked. ’Looks like the items from the Mysterious Mall are expensive for a reason.’ "This won’t be for public sale for the time being, so don’t worry."

"Okay."

"Do you want to watch TV together tonight?" Shen Lu asked.

"If you’d like." Fu Cheng paused, then asked, "Won’t you get bored watching TV with me?"

He wasn’t very expressive. He would only say a little more if Shen Lu asked, and only if she happened to ask about something he actually wanted to talk about.

"I don’t like it when it’s too noisy."

Shen Lu actually quite liked watching TV with Fu Cheng. He would answer any question she had, he didn’t just parrot popular opinion, and he had his own insights.

Most importantly, even if they were watching something he wasn’t interested in, he would still watch it attentively. He wouldn’t just feign interest, and he certainly wouldn’t fall asleep halfway through. He never spoiled the mood.

With a TV-watching buddy like him, she couldn’t be more satisfied.
