Chapter 378: Chapter 378: Won’t Clean Up Her Mess
To be safe, Shen Lu increased her daily service from three tables to four.
Li Long and Bai Wanwan’s order still counted as one table, so serving three more tables of dine-in customers should be enough.
After cooking the dishes for two tables, Shen Lu saw there were no new customers for the time being and went to chat with Zeng Xiaodao.
"What have you been up to lately?" Shen Lu asked. "You’re not still doing the same thing as before, are you?"
Zeng Xiaodao swallowed his last bite of food. "Of course not."
"Then what’s with the scar on your face?"
"From a mutant beast."
"There are mutant beasts in the survival base?"
"Not in the base. I went outside a while ago."
"Oh..." Shen Lu suddenly sighed with emotion. "We used to fight over trash in the junkyard, and now, in the blink of an eye, you’re a Superpower User."
"Not in the blink of an eye," Zeng Xiaodao corrected her. "I was already a Superpower User before. Then, after eating your food, I somehow leveled up to the Second Level, and now I’m already at the Third Level."
"That fast? Isn’t it supposed to be hard to raise your Superpower Level? It hasn’t been that long for you, but it seems as easy as drinking water," Shen Lu said in surprise.
Zeng Xiaodao wasn’t sure either.
His superpower was improving at an astonishing rate. This was also why he’d caught the attention of the higher-ups, allowing him to join the investigation into the expired nutrient liquid case.
Thinking of this, Zeng Xiaodao let out a heavy sigh. "Gong Tianhua really deserves to die."
The topic changed so quickly that Shen Lu almost couldn’t keep up.
"I don’t know who uncovered all this and managed to publicize it in such a way. They’re amazing." The admiration and awe in Zeng Xiaodao’s voice were undisguised.
Shen Lu puffed out her chest. ’That’s right, it was me!’
’I’m just that amazing!’
"It’s a shame Gong Tianhua is in a cell now, otherwise..." Zeng Xiaodao snorted, his meaning obvious.
Shen Lu couldn’t help but advise, "You don’t have to rush your revenge. I’m sure your grandmother wouldn’t want to see you get yourself into trouble just to avenge her."
Zeng Xiaodao didn’t respond, clearly having his own plans.
Shen Lu didn’t press the matter.
As he was leaving, Zeng Xiaodao told her, "If you’re ever in danger, send me a message. If I can make it, I’ll definitely come."
He couldn’t make a 100% guaranteed promise.
After all, he wasn’t a free agent now. There was no guarantee he’d even be in the Imperial City when Shen Lu needed him.
"Alright. You stay safe, too."
No sooner had she seen Zeng Xiaodao out than two groups of people arrived. Shen Lu didn’t recognize any of them.
"Boss, are you still serving?" a bald man on the left asked.
Shen Lu nodded. "The fast-food counter is open, but for the booth area, there’s only one table left."
"We were here first! Boss, we want to order!" the people on the right immediately shouted.
The group on the left was not happy. "Bullshit, you were here first? We were clearly the first ones in the door!"
Seeing that the two groups were about to start arguing, Shen Lu cut in coolly, "If you want to argue, take it outside. No arguing or fighting is allowed in the restaurant."
As soon as she said this, the two groups, who had been at each other’s throats, suddenly quieted down.
The two sides exchanged a look, then cautiously asked Shen Lu, "Then... can we share a table?"
Shen Lu fell silent. There were more than 20 of them combined. The booth area wasn’t big enough to seat them all at once; they would have to be split into two tables.
She quietly asked her system if these twenty-odd people were ordinary people or Superpower Users.
[They are Superpower Users.]
Shen Lu’s eyes lit up, but she pretended to be troubled before nodding.
"Fine. But just this once. Don’t expect it to happen again."
The crowd breathed a sigh of relief, having been afraid Shen Lu would say no.
They bustled into the booth area and split up, sitting down at two tables.
Shen Lu spoke again. "I don’t have many ingredients left. You can order twelve dishes at most."
"What? Only twelve dishes? I was planning on ordering two of everything on the menu..."
"Boss, twelve dishes is a bit too few. No matter what, we should at least get twenty, right?"
Shen Lu spread her hands. "I can’t make something out of nothing. This is all the ingredients I have. I can add two more, tops."
Shen Lu had expected them to cause a fuss, but they just grumbled a bit and were surprisingly reasonable.
It looked like a lot of food—fourteen dishes—but since more than half were repeat orders, Shen Lu could cook them in batches, which saved a lot of trouble.
While she was brushing the pork ribs with honey water, another group of people came in, wanting to order from the menu.
Shen Lu had Sang Yue deal with them.
It was unclear what Sang Yue told them, but the group didn’t cause any trouble and left obediently.
"Boss Shen, they said they’ll come earlier tomorrow and asked you to save a table for them," Sang Yue said.
Shen Lu froze. "You promised them?"
"Yeah, they seemed really sincere, so I agreed. It’s fine, I remember what they look like."
The corner of Shen Lu’s mouth twitched. ’I really shouldn’t have sent Sang Yue.’
"But I’m not open tomorrow."
"Huh?" Sang Yue was dumbfounded. "Why not?"
"I have to take Fu Cheng to the hospital."
"Oh, is that so? Then what do we do? I... I already promised them." Sang Yue bit her lip, trying hard to think of a solution. "How about I take Fu Cheng to the hospital, and you, Boss..."
"No," Shen Lu refused without a second thought. "When they show up tomorrow, you can explain it to them yourself."
’Making a decision without even asking me... There’s no way I’m cleaning up her mess.’
’Honestly, I’m the boss and Sang Yue is barely an employee. What kind of employee makes decisions for their boss on their own?’
Sang Yue knew she had overstepped and looked a little embarrassed.
Still, she felt a little unhappy.
’My intentions were good. It’s not like I was doing it for myself.’
’Did Shen Lu really have to be so cold about it?’
There were a lot of dishes to serve. Shen Lu had Sang Yue and Deng Ying help carry them out. Once the last of the roasted ribs was served, Shen Lu went to cook the large-batch dishes for the fast-food counter.
The Hot and Sour Chicken Gizzards had been on the menu for a few days and had been incredibly popular from day one.
The people who had been clamoring to defend Kung Pao Chicken to the death had melted away, and the number of customers ordering Hot and Sour Chicken Gizzards surged daily.
Everyone loved the hot, sour, and refreshing chicken gizzards; it was the perfect dish to eat with rice.
The two of them, along with a robot, worked their spatulas nonstop, providing a continuous stream of dishes for the fast-food section.
Shen Lu was so busy she lost track of time, only snapping out of it when she heard the notification for her completed daily mission.
All the prepared ingredients had been used up. Shen Lu went to the front counter and told Brother Wang to hurry and put up the sign, so customers wouldn’t wait in line all for nothing.
"They’re not letting people line up again? Sigh, business at Little Deer Cuisine is just too good, huh?"
"It’s been two days! I haven’t been able to get fast food from Little Deer Cuisine for two days, and I’m a total wreck!"
"The restaurant is still too small, and they don’t have enough staff. Isn’t there more space upstairs in this unfinished building? They should renovate it and expand the fast-food area."
"If you ask me, that booth area over there is completely unnecessary. Hardly anyone ever eats there."
Shen Lu overheard some of the customers’ discussions. Most of it went in one ear and out the other, but the idea of expanding the restaurant’s space did give her an idea.
It was definitely something to consider.
