The NO.1 Food Stall in the Wasteland

Chapter 384: Two Visitors

Chapter 384: Chapter 384: Two Visitors

Shen Lu didn’t know what happened last night. When she woke up, Fu Cheng was already up and had brought breakfast.

"Go wash up and eat," Fu Cheng said, placing the breakfast on the table. "Though, it might not be to your liking."

"It’s fine. I have pickled vegetables. I can get anything down, no matter how bad it tastes."

She had dozens of jars of pickled vegetables she’d accumulated in her System Warehouse.

Shen Lu took out some spicy cabbage and chopped it up to eat.

The nurse had instructed Fu Cheng not to eat, so Shen Lu had breakfast alone.

Not long after she finished eating, the nurse and doctor came in.

After he was admitted yesterday, the hospital had run a series of pre-operative tests. The results were back now, and Fu Cheng’s physical condition was excellent. The surgery could be scheduled for the morning.

When it was time to sign the surgical consent form, Shen Lu’s face was full of hesitation, but Fu Cheng signed it without a second thought.

Half an hour later, Fu Cheng was taken into the operating room, and Shen Lu waited in the hallway.

She was restless, her mind jumping from one thought to another, unable to settle.

If Cai Su hadn’t reminded her, she almost would have forgotten to turn on her takeout app.

’Phew, that was close.’

The System had issued a mission, after all, and there would be a penalty if she failed to complete it.

Shen Lu kept an eye on the admin page, taking the products offline as soon as she hit the number of orders required to complete the mission.

She completely ignored the customers wailing and complaining about not being able to order. Her thoughts were entirely on the operating room.

Fu Cheng’s surgery lasted for twelve hours, and Shen Lu sat in the hallway for twelve hours.

She sat from daytime until late at night.

The doors to the operating room opened again, and this time, it was Fu Cheng being wheeled out.

Shen Lu immediately shot up and rushed over. "Doctor, how did Fu Cheng’s surgery go?"

"It was very successful." The doctor’s eyes were filled with exhaustion. "His recovery is just incredible."

He performed at least a thousand similar surgeries every year, but Fu Cheng’s condition was unprecedentedly good.

Whether it was his blood circulation, the degree of wound recovery, or the stability of his Spiritual Sea, everything was excellent.

The surgery was long because there were many procedures involved, and he also wanted to perform it perfectly, putting every ounce of his strength into each step.

Shen Lu breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at the unconscious man with the oxygen mask on, she quietly took his left hand.

All that was left was to wait for the anesthesia to wear off and for the post-operative healing and recovery to begin.

Shen Lu sat on the companion bed, her body exhausted, but she couldn’t close her eyes.

In the end, she simply pulled a chair over to the hospital bed and dozed off, resting her head on the edge of the mattress.

She only felt at ease when she was a little closer to Fu Cheng.

When Fu Cheng regained consciousness from the haze, he felt something warm pressing down on the back of his left hand.

He shifted his gaze slightly. It was Shen Lu’s face.

The young woman was slumped over the side of the bed, her soft cheek pressing against him without her realizing.

’Has she been watching over me this whole time?’

Fu Cheng felt both happy and heartsore.

He longed to lift Shen Lu onto the bed so she could sleep more comfortably, but having just had surgery, he was too weak. He couldn’t even move freely, let alone carry her.

Shen Lu let out a soft whimper and her eyes flew open.

She’d had a nightmare, dreaming that the great villain from the book, Fu Cheng, was surrounded and killed by the male lead.

Before he died, Fu Cheng looked at Sang Yue with a pained expression, yet his eyes also seemed to hold a hint of relief.

He could have taken the male lead down with him, but he suddenly retracted his superpower, allowing the lightning to course through his body, leaving not even a complete corpse behind.

Shen Lu was gasping for breath, still reeling from the shock.

Fu Cheng wanted to ask her what was wrong, but when he opened his mouth, no sound came out.

Shen Lu let out a long breath, finally coming back to her senses, and noticed that Fu Cheng was awake.

Remembering the scene from her dream, Shen Lu’s lips pouted. "Do you really like her that much?"

Fu Cheng: ???

"Enough to willingly die for her? I never knew you were such a romantic fool. Hmph."

Shen Lu didn’t know why she felt so sour inside.

Fu Cheng couldn’t understand where Shen Lu’s jealousy was coming from. He’d never had much contact with any other girls.

Let alone now, when he was lying in bed, unable to move. How could he possibly be "willingly dying for ’her’"?

And who was this "her" that Shen Lu was talking about?

Shen Lu forced herself to calm down, her chaotic mind regaining some clarity.

When she saw Fu Cheng staring at her, his eyes filled with utter confusion, her own eyes widened in an instant.

She seemed to have mixed up the plot of her dream with reality and said some nonsense.

’So embarrassing.’

"I had a nightmare," Shen Lu quickly explained. "I just woke up and my head’s all fuzzy. I thought I was still dreaming."

’Yup, the person who said all those sour things just now wasn’t me. It was the dream version of me.’

’What does something said in a dream have to do with the real me, anyway?’

If it weren’t for the fact that Fu Cheng couldn’t speak, and that the doctor had repeatedly and strictly instructed him not to use his spiritual power—not even a little bit—he would have definitely asked Shen Lu what she dreamed about.

"How are you feeling?" Shen Lu tried to change the subject. "Do the places where they attached the prosthetics hurt? What about your left eye? Does it feel uncomfortable?"

Fu Cheng could only gaze at Shen Lu quietly with his good right eye, hoping she could understand what he was trying to convey.

"That’s good, as long as you’re okay." Shen Lu understood. "The doctor said you should be able to speak again tomorrow."

The nurse brought breakfast, but it was just a single portion for Shen Lu. Fu Cheng couldn’t eat for the first three days and had to rely on an IV drip to maintain his vital signs.

On the fourth day, he could start having some soups and liquids, slowly returning to a normal diet.

Shen Lu couldn’t stand more than two bites of the bland hospital breakfast. She furtively took out a small dish of pickled vegetables, and it wasn’t half bad when she mixed it all together.

Everything at the shop was normal. Cai Su was far more capable than Shen Lu had imagined, having arranged everything in an orderly manner.

The only issue was that Little Mantis was the only robot in the kitchen that could cook, so the efficiency of getting dishes out was a bit slow.

Luckily, the weather only permitted takeout. If they were doing dine-in service, Shen Lu couldn’t imagine how chaotic it would be.

Thinking of this, Shen Lu posted another hiring notice on DouDou.

’How strange.’ This time, not a single person came to the shop to apply. There were only some inquiries through the app’s backend.

But they were just inquiries—asking about salary, job responsibilities, whether she was taking on apprentices, or even if she wanted to be an apprentice.

There was even a more outrageous one, asking if she needed a husband.

’Come on, she was hiring an employee, not a husband, okay?’

Shen Lu had originally planned to go back to the shop after Fu Cheng’s surgery, but seeing his pitiful state—unable to move or speak—her heart softened.

’Oh well, I’ll take care of him at the hospital for one more day.’

So when Bai Wanwan and Li Long sent in orders, she replied to both with an apology.

Shen Lu: Not in the shop today, not taking orders.

Bai Wanwan: ?

Bai Wanwan: You’re not in the shop in this weather? Where did you go?

Shen Lu: Fu Cheng is having surgery, so I came to be with him.

Bai Wanwan: Which hospital?

Shen Lu sent her the location.

Li Long asked a similar question, though his wording was more polite.

Shen Lu gave him the same reply.

An hour later, the hospital room received two visitors.
