Chapter 195: Chapter 195: No One Can Stop Their Revenge on the Rabbit
"Wumeng Mountain connects to mountains beyond, moonlight spills on Xiangshui Beach, can anyone tell me, if the heavens are calling out to you..."
"Everybody, let’s sing along."
In the Ten Thousand Mountains, Lu Wu hummed the legendary tune off-key, a pair of rabbit ears on her head as she sold spicy rabbit heads.
Because her customers were all demon beasts, Lu Wu occasionally had to tilt her head to listen to the language of beasts, which caused the rabbit ears on her head to twitch in response.
Bouncy and soft.
As if they were alive.
And this was the scene that greeted the Divine Spear Sect elder and his disciples when they arrived nearby.
In their eyes, Lu Wu was still in human form, because the rabbit ears only altered the perception of demon beasts.
Who could have imagined? They had tracked Ghost Energy powerful enough to annihilate the world, fully expecting a fierce battle. Instead, they found a woman with white rabbit ears running a stall in the middle of this deep, ancient forest.
And her damn customers weren’t even human.
While the demon beasts present weren’t particularly powerful—most being below the Golden Core Stage—their sheer numbers were enough to form a small beast tide.
A low-level Cultivator’s legs would be trembling just standing here, let alone trying to do business with these demon beasts.
The disciples were practically petrified. Some couldn’t believe their eyes; they rubbed them vigorously, but when they looked again, the scene hadn’t changed.
Even the corner of the elder’s mouth twitched at the unexpected sight.
"Is... is she human?"
Someone voiced the question that came from the depths of their soul.
Their gazes unconsciously drifted to the rabbit ears. They were fluffy and looked just like a normal rabbit’s.
What’s more, they even reacted to Lu Wu’s movements.
"Don’t tell me it’s a demon beast from the Rabbit Clan in human form?"
A disciple offered this speculation, but the elder shook his head.
"She’s human."
She had no demonic aura whatsoever. The blood flowing through her veins was human.
However, he couldn’t gauge her level of power and dared not approach her rashly.
But for a human to appear here, at a time like this... it was abnormal, no matter how you looked at it.
"Could she be some kind of spy?"
Many people in the West State knew of the Ghost Gate’s existence, and among them were more than a few Evil Cultivators.
Among those Evil Cultivators were some utterly vicious individuals who held no regard for human life and instead wanted to open the Ghost Gate to release the ghosts within.
Now that the Ghost Gate was showing signs of activity, it was highly likely for an Evil Cultivator to appear here.
"A spy? Have you even looked at what she’s selling in that pot?"
A female disciple sneered.
Those rabbit heads in the pot, weren’t they from the White Rabbit Clan, the very ones they’d observed to be most deeply tainted by Ghost Energy?
Behind her stall, a pile of headless rabbit carcasses was stacked high.
’Would an Evil Cultivator really be helping to clean up the "evil white rabbits"?’
’After all, a severe spread of Ghost Energy would only accelerate the opening of the Ghost Gate.’
’As if an Evil Cultivator would be so kind.’
The disciple who had been questioned understood at once and gave an embarrassed laugh. "That singing... uh."
He wanted to compliment her singing to change the subject, but Lu Wu’s meandering, off-key performance made it impossible for him to betray his conscience.
"Ahem, the lyrics are nice, though."
’To be fair, the lyrics do have a certain charm.’
"Can you even eat those rabbits? But man, it smells so good."
The youngest disciple in the group twitched his nose, craning his neck to look at Lu Wu’s stall.
To avoid startling her, they were still some distance from the stall.
But a cultivator’s senses are incredibly sharp. As soon as they saw the food in the pot, they caught its aroma as well.
The spicy aroma transformed into giant pythons, materializing around him.
The pythons’ thick bodies coiled around him again and again, constricting his personal space and forcing all of his attention onto the source of the aroma.
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
Someone’s stomach rumbled.
Pfft!
A disciple snorted with laughter. He laughed and laughed, but when he realized no one was joining in, he turned his head to find everyone looking at him like he was some kind of hero.
The one whose stomach had rumbled was the elder.
That disciple instantly learned the secret to skin whitening, as the color drained from his face.
Nearby, the elder’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot.
The elder glared daggers at the disciple, wishing he could gag him.
’What’s so funny? Is it *that* funny?’
He had been practicing Fasting for many years and had long lost any desire for mortal food. Besides, for someone of his high cultivation, food wasn’t a necessity.
He thought he was long past the troubles of mortal sustenance, but who knew he’d break his streak here.
’He had to admit, the aroma was stirring up old memories.’
Back when he was young and new to the Cultivation World, he had read too many storybooks. Full of youthful vim and vigor, he’d had the whimsical idea of raising a demon to be his wife.
The one he chose was a pure little white rabbit.
He served that rabbit the best food and drink, raising it and raising it, raising it until the village dog, Dahuang, was on the verge of gaining sentience, yet that rabbit still only knew how to nibble grass all day.
He had to go up the mountain to cut grass for the rabbit every day on top of his cultivation, earning the ridicule of many of his peers.
In a fit of anger, he abandoned the little rabbit.
He’d imagined it would be a clean break, with both of them going their separate ways. But that very evening, he saw a plate of braised rabbit on his own dinner table.
His demon wife had become a plate of meat on the table.
In the end, he could only tearfully eat two large bowls.
’So delicious.’
From then on, this became a sore spot in his heart.
And now, amidst the aroma of the spicy rabbit heads, the memories resurfaced. He just wanted to go over, grab the owner by the collar, and demand to know why she had to bring up his painful memories.
’I must have two more bowls of rabbit heads to soothe this pain.’
Even though he had cast a spell to silence the rumbling in his stomach, as its owner, the elder could still feel his stomach churning.
’Just as vigorous as all those years ago.’
"Let’s go. We’ll ask what’s going on."
The elder spoke, straightened his sleeves, lifted his chin, and floated over lightly.
’Besides, this human appearing here needs to be questioned thoroughly.’
The arrival of the humans shattered the peace between the actual beasts and the fake one.
SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!
YIP!
After the Divine Spear Sect disciples appeared, of the demon beasts that had been pacified by the rabbit ears, more than half had their fur stand on end.
They were once again reminded of the cruel past hidden deep in their memories, especially since the clothes this group was wearing were identical to those of the humans who had beaten their ancestors to a pulp.
The demon beasts began to back away, snarling and baring their fangs at the humans to intimidate them.
The only reason they didn’t scatter was that the spicy rabbit heads were just too delicious.
The demon beasts who had already finished their first round had mouths gleaming with oil.
’What evil little rabbits? These are delicious little rabbit heads! Between our appetites and our lives, we choose to defend our right to the former!’
’No one can stop us from getting our revenge on the rabbits! NO ONE!’
"This..."
A Divine Spear Sect disciple scratched his head. They more or less understood why these demon beasts were so skittish around them.
The ancestors of many demon beasts had been defeated at the hands of the Divine Spear Sect’s founders.
It made sense, seeing as the Divine Spear Sect was situated just outside the great mountains.
