An Accidental Military Marriage

Chapter 275: Confession

Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Confession

Jiang Moli arrived at the Chen Family’s home.

The moment she walked in, Wu Miaoyun’s eyelid twitched and her expression soured.

Jiang Moli, however, was all smiles. "My, it’s so lively in here!"

An Hui immediately noticed the gold necklace around her neck. With so many people around, she didn’t ask about it, simply saying, "What brings you here?"

Besides An Hui and a few other families from the compound, there were also several unfamiliar faces, likely relatives of the Chen and Liang families.

Jiang Moli grinned. "Just came to take a look. Is there anything I can help with?"

As she spoke, she sidled up to Wu Miaoyun and peered at the notebook in her hands.

"Oh, are you planning the wedding banquet menu? Furong Restaurant, huh? I’m very good friends with the owner. Just mention my name when you go!"

Everyone in the room stared at her.

Wu Miaoyun was especially thrilled.

If they could get an exclusive discount, wouldn’t that save them a lot of money?

One of the Liang family’s relatives couldn’t help but ask, "And what happens if we mention your name?"

Jiang Moli puffed out her chest. "Mention my name, and you’ll be guaranteed the full, original price!"

Tch!

’And here I thought you actually had some inside connection. Turns out you were just full of hot air!’

No one was more furious than Wu Miaoyun. She wished she could grab a broom and beat Jiang Moli out of the house.

’She’s so infuriating!’

After leaving the Chen family’s home, An Hui couldn’t resist asking about the gold necklace around Jiang Moli’s neck.

"Tingting bought it. Pretty, isn’t it?"

Hearing that her eldest granddaughter had bought it, An Hui was surprised and voiced the same doubt Jiang Moli had.

"This necklace isn’t fake, is it?"

After all, a gold necklace isn’t cheap.

Jiang Moli laughed. "It’s not fake, it’s real. 18-karat gold. I even have the receipt."

An Hui breathed a sigh of relief.

It wasn’t that she cared whether the necklace was real or fake, but she was worried that her granddaughter might have carelessly bought a fake one.

Her third son’s wife now worked in the song and dance troupe and was also a soldier’s wife; wearing a fake necklace would attract criticism.

Lu Tingting returned home.

Fan Wenfang saw her flushed cheeks and asked with concern, "Do you have a cold? There’s some cold medicine in the drawer. Go take some."

"I don’t have a cold."

Lu Tingting changed her shoes and went straight to her bedroom, picking up a round mirror from her desk.

"That damned woman, she actually took advantage of me! Just like Third Uncle, a total pervert!"

Gazing at her own beautiful face in the mirror, Lu Tingting admired herself while cursing under her breath.

Lu Nana, who was doing her homework nearby, heard her mumbling and asked in confusion, "Sis, what are you saying?"

Lu Tingting shot her a glare. "Do your homework. Stop asking about grown-up stuff!"

"Today’s problems are so hard. There are a lot I don’t know how to do. Can you teach me?"

"If you don’t know how, just leave it blank. You’ll save some ink that way."

Lu Nana: "..."

Fan Wenfang came to the bedroom door while trimming celery. "Tingting, did you buy a gift for your Third Aunt?"

"I bought it."

"What did you buy?"

"Why are you asking so many questions? Anyway, I bought it, and I already gave it to her."

Her daughter’s rebelliousness frustrated Fan Wenfang. Glancing at her messy bed and wardrobe, she began to scold her, "You’re a girl, yet your room is as messy as a pigsty. Don’t you know how to clean up after yourself?"

Lu Tingting put down the mirror. "Mom, when have you ever seen a pig clean its own sty? Isn’t it always the pig farmer who cleans it?"

Fan Wenfang was so angry she was speechless: "..."

During dinner, Ma Hongmei and Lu Deyao also noticed the gold necklace around Jiang Moli’s neck.

She was wearing a black turtleneck sweater, which made the glittering gold necklace stand out.

"Moli, that’s a nice necklace. When did you buy it?" Lu Deyao asked curiously.

"Tingting bought it."

Hearing it was from his granddaughter, Lu Deyao opened his mouth to speak but then hesitated.

An Hui saw his concern and said teasingly, "It’s real. 18-karat gold, bought from the department store."

Lu Deyao relaxed, then changed the subject to praise his granddaughter:

"Tingting has really become so sensible now, hasn’t she? She has good taste, too. She picked out a great necklace!"

Later that night.

After washing up, Lu Deyao returned to the bedroom, closed the door, and spoke to An Hui, who was leaning against the headboard knitting a sweater:

"It’s getting late. Let’s sleep. You can continue knitting tomorrow when you have time."

An Hui’s needles didn’t stop as she spoke to him. "When you get your allowance this month, don’t bring it home. Split it in two, half for our eldest son’s family and half for our second son’s. Give them some of the ration tickets, too. The New Year is coming up. If we help them out a bit, their finances will be a little easier."

Lu Deyao got into bed with a smile. "Whatever you say. You’re the big boss of this family."

An Hui shot him a playful glare, cast on a new row of stitches, and brought up the gold necklace.

"For our eldest son’s family, I’ll add an extra thirty yuan. They have three kids, all boys at that age where they can eat you out of house and home. Their expenses are high. It wasn’t easy for her to find the money to buy a gold necklace for Moli."

"Okay."

After agreeing, Lu Deyao quickly gave her a peck on the cheek and dove under the covers.

An Hui kicked him in mock anger. "Are you crazy?"

Lu Deyao clutched the spot where he was kicked, feeling delighted inside. "Moli told me to this morning. A man has to keep his word! It’s late, let’s sleep!"

An Hui rolled her eyes at him, then gathered her knitting and got out of bed.

Lu Deyao watched her. "Where are you going?"

"To Hongmei’s room."

"Then when are you coming back?"

"I’m not. I’m sleeping with Hongmei tonight."

Lu Deyao shot up in bed anxiously. "Then I’m going too!"

An Hui stared at him in disbelief. "Barging into your cousin-in-law’s room in the middle of the night? Have you no shame?"

"Nope. The three of us can sleep together."

Furious, An Hui grabbed her knitting needles and started whacking him with them.

After she was done, An Hui was tired too, so she lay back down on the bed to sleep.

Lu Deyao thoughtfully lifted the covers for her and tucked her in, secretly pleased. ’The beating was worth it,’ he thought. ’I got my wife to stay!’

Qian Ling thought about it for two days and decided to take Jiang Moli’s advice: to proactively pursue Wen Jingerui.

However, she had never even been in a relationship, let alone pursued a man; she was completely in the dark. After work, she specifically treated Jiang Moli to some Yangzhou fried rice to ask for her advice on how to woo a man.

While eating, Jiang Moli asked her, "Do you want the direct approach or the subtle and reserved one?"

Qian Ling was thirsty for knowledge. "What’s the direct approach?"

"You just ask him out and tell him straight, ’Doctor Wen, I’d like to talk to you about being in a relationship,’ or you could say, ’Doctor Wen, how can I win you over? With a sack or with sweet talk?’"

Qian Ling covered her blushing cheeks. "Ah, that’s way too direct! Let’s go with the subtle one."

In front of the surgery building.

Qian Ling looked at Wen Jingerui, dressed in a white coat, exuding a clean and gentle aura. She was so nervous her legs were trembling.

Wen Jingerui thought she was cold and asked considerately, "Why don’t we go inside to talk?"

Qian Ling quickly shook her head.

’There are so many people coming and going in the building,’ she thought. ’I could never say it in there.’

"Doctor Wen, do... do you still have that scarf? I... I regretted it after I went home that day. The scarf is very beautiful, and I don’t want to miss out on it."

After finally managing to speak her mind, Qian Ling’s face was so red it looked like it could bleed.

"I’m sorry, I already gave the scarf to my older sister."

"I’m sorry for bothering you!"

With that, Qian Ling turned and fled.

Making the first move had taken all the courage she had, and she was still brutally rejected. She couldn’t bear to stay for another second; she wished a hole would open up in the ground and swallow her whole.

"Comrade Qian, wait!"
