The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 558 - 557: Possessing a Self

Chapter 558: Chapter 557: Possessing a Self

The time at sea was happy, yet tinged with a little melancholy.

But such are the many flavors of life, and Han Xiaorui savored each one.

Meanwhile, after coming home from school, Pingping and An’an were playing with their little brother and sister.

Night fell, but their mother still hadn’t come home.

Pingping and An’an knew their mother had gone out to sea. It had often been like this when they were little, so they were already used to it.

But for Ningning and Zhuangzhuang, this was the first time they had been apart from their mother, and they didn’t see her at dinnertime either.

"Daddy, call Mommy to come eat!" Ningning said, shaking Ye Feng’s arm.

Ye Feng smiled and replied, "Mommy isn’t home tonight. She went out to the ocean to catch seafood, to get you some yummy fish."

Hearing this, Zhuangzhuang’s eyes blinked, and he looked aggrieved. "Daddy, I don’t want to eat seafood. I want Mommy!"

Ningning quickly chimed in, "Daddy, I want Mommy! I want Mommy..."

Ye Feng felt a headache coming on. He first tried to coax them into eating. "Once you finish your dinner, maybe Mommy will be back!"

At these words, Ningning’s eyes lit up. "Really?" she asked.

Ye Feng replied, "When Mommy is done with her work, she’ll come back! Don’t you like seafood? I remember you love seafood noodles the most!"

"Daddy loves seafood, and so do your big sisters! Mommy is catching all this wonderful seafood for us, so we should be cheering her on!"

The moment Ningning and Zhuangzhuang heard this, they grew upset again. "We want Mommy..."

Sister Lian, who was feeding one of the children nearby, felt her heart ache for them. "The kids are still so young; they can’t be away from their mother. Besides, for fishing, it’s not like Xiao Rui absolutely has to go!"

Many people might have thought so, but Ye Feng didn’t.

"Ever since getting pregnant and having the kids, Xiao Rui hasn’t had any time for herself. It’s good for her to go fishing at sea and take her mind off things for a bit."

"As for the kids, I’ll get them to eat first. After dinner, I’ll play with them, and they’ll forget all about it in no time."

Seeing their little brother and sister crying, Pingping and An’an each went to comfort one. "Ningning, don’t cry," Pingping said. "Don’t you like that hair clip of mine? I’ll give you one later, and tomorrow you can have Aunt Lian tie your hair in pretty little braids."

Ningning had been coveting her sister’s hair clip for a long time, but Pingping hadn’t given it to her because her own hair was still quite short, and it was one of her sister’s favorites.

Finally getting her wish, Ningning’s eyes brightened. "Really, Sis? Are you really giving it to me?"

Pingping nodded. "Of course. Now hurry up and eat! I have lots of other fun things, and I’ll play with you after you’ve finished your dinner.

Ye Feng had thought the children would be difficult to console, but he hadn’t expected his two daughters to step in and manage to soothe both Ningning and Zhuangzhuang.

After dinner, they played in the yard for a while.

Pingping took out her collection of hair clips to share with Ningning, while An’an took Zhuangzhuang to the backyard to chase the chickens and play with the dog.

Watching from a short distance away, Sister Lian couldn’t help but remark with emotion, "Xiao Feng, Xiao Rui has raised Pingping and An’an so well! Look how careful and considerate they are!"

Ye Feng smiled, gratified. "Yes, my two daughters are incredibly well-behaved. They might not be the smartest, but their sincerity and loving hearts are second to none."

Many people called Pingping and An’an baggage from a previous marriage, but Ye Feng had never once thought of them that way.

From the very day he started pursuing Han Xiaorui, he had already accepted Pingping and An’an with all his heart.

The longer they spent together, the more Ye Feng grew to love Pingping and An’an. To him, they were his daughters.

Ye Feng felt this way even though they weren’t related by blood.

It was a case of true affection being met with true affection, and Pingping and An’an had come to see him as their real father.

As for their biological father, Yang Jianming, Pingping and An’an had all but forgotten he even existed.

When the children were tired from playing, Sister Lian helped them get washed up and put them to bed.

However, the two little ones ran over to their father, holding up books and asking Ye Feng to tell them a story.

Ye Feng read to them, and before he could even finish one story, both children had fallen asleep.

The bed in the master bedroom was huge, so Ye Feng placed both children on it, sleeping on the edge with his arms around them.

The two of them slept like they were in a wrestling match, constantly tossing and turning all over the bed.

They kicked Ye Feng from time to time, waking him up several times throughout the night.

Each time, Ye Feng would cover them back up with the light blanket before trying to fall asleep again.

The next morning, Ye Feng was exhausted and groggy, so he didn’t get up for his usual run.

With Sister Lian’s help, he finally managed to get the children dressed and fed breakfast, before personally taking them to kindergarten and elementary school.

Fortunately, it was Saturday, so the children only had a half-day of school.

Ye Feng was still worried about the kids, so he didn’t go to work.
