Chapter 287: Chapter 287: He Wants Her to Be His Teacher
They bought a lot of things to take home. Xie Huaizheng carried the bags, and Su Zhaozhao organized everything once they got back.
The house felt more and more like a warm, cozy home.
Su Zhaozhao looked at the small home she had decorated little by little, feeling a great sense of accomplishment.
She set up a small brazier by the balcony, so when they had free time, she and Xie Huaizheng could warm themselves by the fire and watch TV.
The small brazier could be used to boil water, or they could place things like peanuts and tangerines on it to warm them up, making them even tastier.
After she finished putting things away, there was a knock at the door.
Su Zhaozhao went to open the door and saw it was Zhou Xiaoyun.
"Aunt Yun."
Zhou Xiaoyun held up a bag with a broad smile. "This is the fresh cured sausage and pork I made this year. I wanted to bring some over for you two. You can hang it on your balcony to let it slowly air-dry."
Looking at the cured meats in Zhou Xiaoyun’s hand, Su Zhaozhao suddenly felt like the New Year was almost here.
"Thank you, Aunt Yun!" Su Zhaozhao said quickly. "You’re too kind."
Zhou Xiaoyun waved her hand dismissively. "Think nothing of it. You don’t know how to make this stuff, and almost every family around here is curing pork right now. If we don’t do it now, we won’t be able to once the weather warms up after the New Year."
Su Zhaozhao remembered the supplies in her dimensional space—she had cured pork and sausage, too. She had both the savory kind popular here and the sweet style from Shencheng City.
’Looks like I can bring a batch out later on.’
Su Zhaozhao thanked Zhou Xiaoyun again, exchanged a few more pleasantries, then took the bag and asked Xie Huaizheng to hang it up on the balcony.
Su Zhaozhao couldn’t help but say, "I don’t know why, but I really feel like the New Year is just around the corner."
Xie Huaizheng’s gaze fell on her, and he couldn’t help but smile. "Well, I hope the New Year comes quickly. Then I can take you home."
He should have taken Su Zhaozhao home to meet his family right after they got married. However, Huang Jiqin had come to visit them instead. Plus, he was always overwhelmed with missions.
He was also afraid that rushing back and forth on the road, with too short a stay at home, would be hard on Su Zhaozhao.
That’s why, in the end, Xie Huaizheng decided to wait until the New Year to take Su Zhaozhao home.
"I’d love that. I’m looking forward to visiting your home, too."
’After a mix-up like that, I wonder if Xie Huaizheng’s family will accept me?’
’And then there’s my dad and stepmom...’
’I wonder if Xie Huaizheng’s family will mind about all that?’
’After all, his family is truly prominent. They’re bound to care about things like that, right?’
Seeing Su Zhaozhao lost in thought, Xie Huaizheng chuckled. "What are you thinking about? You’re a million miles away."
"I’m wondering if your family will look down on me."
"They wouldn’t dare!" Xie Huaizheng’s expression turned cold. "If I can’t even protect you from that, I don’t deserve to be your man."
"Hmph. If you can’t protect me, I’ll turn right around and run away, and you’ll never find me!"
"Don’t you dare, Su Zhaozhao. You’ve got some nerve." Hearing her words, Xie Huaizheng frowned.
He grabbed Su Zhaozhao, pushed her onto the sofa, and loomed over her, his presence creating a powerful sense of pressure.
"I don’t like hearing words like that, Zhaozhao. Don’t say them again."
Su Zhaozhao knew that Xie Huaizheng was genuinely upset. She cupped his face and assured him, "I was just kidding. Don’t take it seriously."
"I don’t believe you. Unless you give me a kiss."
’What a rascal.’
Su Zhaozhao leaned in and kissed his lips. "Do you believe me now?"
The next moment, he deepened the kiss.
He pressed Su Zhaozhao down on the sofa and they fooled around for a while.
...
After dinner that evening, Su Zhaozhao went for a walk downstairs with Xie Huaizheng.
As it happened, she ran into Li Weichuan.
She hadn’t seen Li Weichuan for quite a while, ever since school started for him.
She only got updates on Li Weichuan’s situation when she ran into Wang Anning. Wang Anning had told her that his teacher noticed he was more talkative than before and that he had even taken the initiative to ask about entering a math competition.
Since Li Weichuan had suggested it himself, of course they agreed.
So during this period, he hadn’t come home at all; he was either at school grinding through practice problems or away at a competition.
This was actually his first time coming home since the school year started.
Li Weichuan still looked the same, but he seemed to have grown a bit taller. Judging by his eyes, he also seemed to be in much better spirits.
Su Zhaozhao was very pleased, as she could see that Li Weichuan’s state was improving bit by bit.
"Zhaozhao," the young man called out obediently.
Su Zhaozhao smiled warmly at him. "Wei Chuan, long time no see."
"It has been a long time. I won first place in the provincial math competition this time. Next, I have to participate in the national competition."
He shared this news with Su Zhaozhao, hoping she would praise him.
"Wow, that’s amazing, Wei Chuan! You’re incredible! I told you that you could do it. This just goes to show, you should always be brave enough to try things. Even if you fail, you can just treat it as a new experience. It’s a good way to be, right?"
Li Weichuan looked at the young woman before him. The way she looked at him, her eyes were as bright as stars.
The smile on her face was just as brilliant, like the sun. On a cold night like this, it made his heart feel warm.
’It seems like she’s gotten even prettier in the time we’ve been apart.’
’She’s so beautiful. I’ve never met a girl this good-looking, and so kind-hearted, too.’
’Back at school, there are so many girls, but I can’t find anyone else like Su Zhaozhao.’
Li Weichuan rummaged through his school bag, took something out, and handed it to Su Zhaozhao. "Zhaozhao, this is a gift for you. Think of it as a thank you for all your help recently."
It was a book—a classic, no less.
’That’s very much his style.’
"Thank you." Su Zhaozhao accepted the book. "Are you doing okay now? How are you getting along with your classmates?"
"I’m doing well. I feel like I’m not so averse to talking to people anymore."
"That’s good." Su Zhaozhao breathed a sigh of relief. "It looks like I don’t need to continue your treatment. Wei Chuan, you’re recovering very quickly."
Su Zhaozhao knew she hadn’t done much; it was Li Weichuan who had been willing to take the step forward himself.
She had merely given him a stepping stone along the way.
Otherwise, if Li Weichuan hadn’t been willing to step out on his own, nothing she did would have worked.
"Yeah, I am..." As Li Weichuan spoke, his mood deflated a little.
’I’m really getting better, but this means she can’t keep treating me anymore.’
’That means we’ll have fewer and fewer chances to see each other.’
’I can’t quite put my finger on what’s wrong with me. I was so resistant to seeing a therapist before.’
’But now, I can’t bear the thought of not seeing Su Zhaozhao.’
’What a strange feeling.’
"Zhaozhao, my English isn’t very good. My mom said your English is excellent... Could you... tutor me?" Li Weichuan had been wanting to ask this for a long time.
’Then she can go from being my therapist to being my tutor.’
