Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 293: Are You Interested in Mo Chen?

Chapter 293: Chapter 293: Are You Interested in Mo Chen?

"I can’t afford to gamble on this."

The atmosphere around Bai Ye instantly plummeted to a freezing point, becoming so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.

"Yun Sheng and I can cooperate with you for the spiritual power compatibility test as soon as possible, but her Sentinel..." He paused. A flicker of hesitation flashed through his eyes, and his words came to an abrupt halt.

The gaze behind Mo Chen’s glasses flickered slightly. He looked at him thoughtfully and said in a mild tone, "That Sentinel of Yun Sheng’s shouldn’t be so opposed that he won’t even do a compatibility test, right? Or is there a problem with his spiritual power that makes it inconvenient for him to show his face?"

He had only performed a superficial examination on Yun Sheng so far. It revealed multiple waveforms within her spiritual landscape, indicating overlapping strands of different spiritual powers, but he wasn’t clear on the exact values or specific conditions. His deduction that one of those layers belonged to Bai Ye was entirely based on his familiarity with the man.

Bai Ye pressed his thin lips into a cold, hard line, offering no answer to Mo Chen’s question.

Seeing his secretive demeanor, Mo Chen nodded in understanding. "Then think it over carefully. What I can promise is that I am only responsible for researching the characteristics of Yun Sheng’s spiritual power. Regardless of who is cooperating with the research, or what secrets you’re hiding, I won’t interfere, nor will I leak a single word to anyone."

It wasn’t that Bai Ye distrusted Mo Chen; otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought Yun Sheng here. However, he had to consider Yun Sheng and Si Jin’s thoughts. This wasn’t a decision he could make on his own.

He looked up at Mo Chen and said solemnly, "I know. Thank you."

Mo Chen looked at him and pulled a faint smile. "I’m the one who should be thanking you. Yun Sheng’s spiritual power is truly special. Her existence might just shatter the current bottlenecks in the Star Alliance’s spiritual power research. For me, this is a rare research opportunity."

With that, he patted Bai Ye on the shoulder, hugged his data pad, and walked toward the examination room.

Bai Ye stood in place, watching Mo Chen’s retreating back. After a moment, he slowly withdrew his gaze and turned to head back to the lounge.

He gently pushed open the door. The lighting inside was soft, a stark contrast to the dimness of the hallway. Looking up, he saw Yun Sheng sitting on the sofa. Her eyes were slightly downcast as she stared at her terminal screen. Her expression was exceedingly serious, so much so that she didn’t even notice the sound of him entering.

Bai Ye walked over to the sofa without uttering a sound to disturb her. Instead, he leaned over slightly, lowering his gaze to sweep across Yun Sheng’s terminal screen.

Displayed on the screen was actually Mo Chen’s personal profile. It included his scientific research resume, published academic papers, and even a few photos from his school days. In the photos, his features were youthful, and he exuded an aura of aloofness as he stared intently at the camera. His temperament was no different from how he was now.

Bai Ye narrowed his eyes and asked softly, "Are you interested in Mo Chen?"

Startled by the sudden voice beside her ear, Yun Sheng’s head snapped up, her gaze colliding squarely with Bai Ye’s. His eyes were deep and fiery, wrapped in a trace of unconcealable tension that made her heart skip a beat for no reason.

"Do you not make a sound when you walk? You scared me." She raised a hand to press against her chest, a hint of reproach in her tone.

In truth, Bai Ye hadn’t deliberately lightened his footsteps. Yun Sheng had just been staring at Mo Chen’s profile with such absolute focus that she missed the sound of the door and his approach.

Bai Ye felt a sour pang of jealousy in his heart. Naturally, he couldn’t just say that out loud, so he could only stare at her unblinkingly.

Yun Sheng felt completely uncomfortable under his stare. An inexplicable sense of guilt welled up inside her, and her fingertips subconsciously rubbed the edge of her terminal. "I was just curious about why he’s so obsessed with researching spiritual power. What do you mean ’interested’? Don’t talk nonsense."

Mo Chen was a bona fide research fanatic. Even just now, when their spiritual powers had merged and they had entered each other’s spiritual landscapes, he had still managed to divide his attention to stare incessantly at his data pad. Aside from experiments and data, there was likely nothing else in his eyes. If Mo Chen were to hear Bai Ye’s words, he would probably find it baffling, which would only cause the man unnecessary trouble. She definitely didn’t want to be misunderstood as someone with impure intentions.

"He’s been interested in these things since he was a child, and he started attempting to research spiritual power at a very early age," Bai Ye explained. "Aside from those who voluntarily cooperated with his studies, he has meticulously pored over the spiritual power reports of all the High-level Guides and Sentinels available in the Star Alliance database.

"You could say that, aside from eating and sleeping, research is the only thing left in his eyes!"

Listening to this, Yun Sheng clicked her tongue in her mind. This wasn’t just being a research fanatic; he had clearly turned himself into a machine that operated solely for research, lacking even the slightest trace of ordinary human desires! Then again, only someone like that could reach the top of the pyramid in the field of spiritual power research.

Seeing her zone out again for some unknown reason, Bai Ye frowned and quickly changed the subject. "Has Lin Mo contacted you? Are things finished on his end? Is he coming to pick you up, or should I take you back?"

Hearing this, Yun Sheng hurriedly looked down at the terminal on her wrist, but there were no new message notifications. She shook her head. "He hasn’t messaged me yet, so I’m guessing he’s still busy. How about I ask him where he is now, and you can drop me off there?"

Bai Ye didn’t hesitate in the slightest, immediately nodding in agreement. "Alright."

Yun Sheng’s fingertip lightly tapped the terminal screen. Just as she was about to open Lin Mo’s avatar to send a message, an incoming call notification suddenly popped up on the screen.

It was Su Wan.

Why would Su Wan suddenly call her? The doubt flashed through her mind. Pausing her finger, Yun Sheng ultimately answered the call.

On the other end of the line, Su Wan’s voice carried a distinct sob. She spoke rapidly, full of unconcealable panic and anxiety. "Yun Sheng, where are you? Xiao Hao... Xiao Hao’s condition has suddenly deteriorated. Can you come to the hospital?"

Lin Hao’s condition deteriorated? Yun Sheng’s heart abruptly sank, but an even greater suspicion soon surged up.

If Lin Hao’s condition had worsened, Su Wan should have immediately contacted experts for a consultation, or figured out a way to contact the Tower to coordinate a High-level Guide for emergency stabilization. Why would she urgently ask Yun Sheng to go over?

"Mrs. Lin, how did Lin Hao’s condition... suddenly deteriorate?"

"I don’t know either... He was fine this morning, but his spiritual power suddenly rioted and he lost consciousness. If this continues, Xiao Hao’s spiritual landscape will be completely destroyed!

"Yue Yao said... Yue Yao said you have a way. Yun Sheng, can you please just come to the hospital and take a look first? No matter what, Xiao Hao is your own brother. Please save him!"

Lin Yueyao put her up to this? Yun Sheng’s gaze instantly chilled by a few degrees.

What gave Lin Yueyao the idea that she had a way to save Lin Hao? Did she find something out, or had she laid a trap to intentionally lure her over and frame her?!

Countless thoughts rapidly churned in her mind. Yun Sheng’s fingers clenched tighter, vigilance and coldness intertwining in her eyes. That was, until a hand reached over and gently covered hers.

Feeling the warmth radiating from Bai Ye’s palm, the irritation rising in Yun Sheng’s heart slowly settled down.

"Alright, I understand. I’ll head over now."
