A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 201: His Weakness

Chapter 201: Chapter 201: His Weakness

"You keep her at home, facing nothing but the mundane daily necessities; that’s not fair to her! With me, she can shine on stage. You can’t be so selfish!" He Han looked at Lu Feng, dissatisfied with his selfish thinking.

"You can’t just demand people like this!" Liu Hongjun was also upset.

Lu Feng heard He Han’s words, and images of Fu Xiaoxiao shining on stage yesterday emerged in his mind. She had such a voice, and in the troupe, she was among the top talents.

Is it unfair to keep her at home...

Lu Feng had never thought about this question.

Seeing Lu Feng’s silence, He Han spoke again. "She is an individual, not your appendage. You should ask for her opinion instead of deciding for her. How could someone with such talent be content to stay in the backyard, facing endless housework every day?"

Liu Hongjun choked, turning to look at the silent Lu Feng. Why was he speechless?

"There’s no room for discussion; you can’t use such methods to poach people. Your troupe has plenty of talented women! You’re missing Xiao Xiao. She married Lu Feng and naturally prioritizes the family. Who are you to disrupt their family like this?" Liu Hongjun frowned in displeasure.

"I’ll wait for your answer here by one o’clock in the afternoon." He Han looked at Lu Feng, knowing he was wavering.

Lu Feng pursed his lips and left the office.

Liu Hongjun frowned at He Han. "Don’t you worry about morality? He finally found a good wife, and what about the two kids?"

He Han sat in front of Liu Hongjun. "Her talent being buried at home is such a waste."

Liu Hongjun glared at He Han. This man was truly stubborn.

Lu Feng couldn’t imagine days without Fu Xiaoxiao, yet he also knew He Han spoke the truth about Fu Xiaoxiao’s excellence and talent.

She should be shining on stage...

Those words kept echoing in his mind.

He began to wonder if he was indeed too selfish, as He Han said.

Keeping Fu Xiaoxiao confined at home.

Fu Xiaoxiao sat in the yard basking in the sun when she saw Lu Feng wandering back like a lost soul. It was the first time she had seen him so dazed.

"Lu Feng? What’s wrong with you? Did something happen?" Fu Xiaoxiao initially wanted to scold him a little to vent her frustration but suddenly noticed his unusual state and asked with concern.

"Xiao Xiao." Lu Feng heard Fu Xiaoxiao’s voice, snapped out of it, and realized he had walked home. He stepped forward and embraced Fu Xiaoxiao in his arms.

"What’s wrong?" Fu Xiaoxiao felt he was holding her so tightly as if he wanted to merge her into his body.

She increasingly felt that something was off with Lu Feng today.

"Am I... being too selfish to you?" Lu Feng held Fu Xiaoxiao tightly and asked softly in her ear.

"Why are you suddenly asking this? Did something happen?" Fu Xiaoxiao was now sure that someone must have said something that bothered Lu Feng.

A man who was always confident and unshakeable had suddenly become so fragile, as if a gentle push could knock him down.

Fu Xiaoxiao gestured for Lu Feng to let go of her, pulled him to the table, and poured him a glass of water.

"Tell me, what happened?" Fu Xiaoxiao signaled him to explain the situation.

Lu Feng glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao and recounted what He Han had told him.

"That look you had on stage the other day was captivating; I’m sure everyone was enchanted by your singing! You have such talent, you shouldn’t stay home every day, burying it..." Lu Feng raised his eyes, suddenly choked, and felt like his throat was stuffed with a cotton ball soaked in saltwater.

"Did you want me to leave and join him at the troupe?" Fu Xiaoxiao met Lu Feng’s dark eyes.

Lu Feng opened his mouth, his Adam’s apple moved, but he finally lowered his eyes in silence.

He wanted to say ’he didn’t want to,’ but he couldn’t be so selfish. What if Fu Xiaoxiao was interested and wanted to leave here?

Those words swirled on the tip of his tongue, finally turning into a sigh.

"I respect your choice. If you want to go, I won’t stop you. You’re an independent person; I can’t keep you confined at home forever..." Lu Feng picked up the teacup and took a slow sip, bitterness spreading across his tongue.

Fu Xiaoxiao sat there quietly, her eyes firmly fixed on Lu Feng, listening to his forced calm words full of reluctance to let her leave.

She understood Lu Feng’s anxiety; he wanted her to soar high, even though he didn’t want her to leave. He was still willing to support her and respect her decision.

But she still felt a bit upset—is this man truly willing to let her go? Can he bear it?

"If that’s what you think, then I will leave." Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes stayed on Lu Feng, and as expected, when he heard her words, his whole body tensed up, one hand clenching into a tight fist.

Lu Feng felt as if all color drained away in that moment, the world suddenly turning black and white.

His heart tightened, making it hard to breathe.

Suffocation descended upon him.

"But... not now." Seeing how pained he looked, Fu Xiaoxiao finally softened.

Fu Xiaoxiao reached out, gently caressing Lu Feng’s cheek, her fingers rubbing his rough skin, trying to convey all her feelings in that touch.

"I know you can’t bear to let me go, and I can’t bear to leave you either. If you don’t want me to go, just say it outright. Why force yourself to agree out of generosity?" Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, feeling heartache for Lu Feng’s pretense of strength and touched by his deep affection.

"But..." Lu Feng looked up to meet Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes, his bloodshot eyes full of unspeakable emotions. "I don’t want to hold you back!"

"Who said you’re holding me back?" Fu Xiaoxiao pinched his cheek playfully, pulling it to both sides.

"This is my home, remember? How could I leave my own home?"

Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, the facade he’d been holding up instantly crumbled.

Lu Feng’s eyes turned red, his lips trembled slightly, and his previously composed gaze was now filled with emotion and insecurity. He opened his mouth, but found his throat seemed blocked, unable to make a sound.

Lu Feng slowly raised his hand, hesitated for a moment, and finally gently held Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand on his cheek, as if it was his only support now.

His fingers tightened slightly, as if afraid that if he let go, Fu Xiaoxiao would disappear.

"Xiao Xiao." Lu Feng finally squeezed out the words, his voice deep and trembling. "I’m afraid... that once you leave, you won’t come back."

Images of Fu Xiaoxiao leaving flashed through his mind, and each one tugged at his heart.

At this moment, he had none of his usual confidence. In front of Fu Xiaoxiao, his vulnerability and insecurity were laid bare, and the fear of losing her grew more intense.

"Silly, I’m the kind of person who likes staying at home, not wandering too far." Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand gently wrapped around Lu Feng’s neck, her forehead lightly pressing against his forehead, her actions tender and resolute.

Every word Fu Xiaoxiao uttered was like a soothing balm, directly anchoring themselves in Lu Feng’s heart.

"In the future, don’t overthink things alone. If you have any thoughts, just tell me openly; don’t keep them bottled up. I told you when I married you—if I ever want to leave, I’ll let you know!" Fu Xiaoxiao’s voice was gentle yet full of strength.

"I’m very satisfied with the life now, with you, and our two loving kids. I have no plans to leave, understand?"
