Chapter 238: Beijing Soy Milk Soup

Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Beijing Soy Milk Soup

Coming to a new environment, because they are all together, there’s only curiosity about the new surroundings, no fear.

A family together makes anywhere feel like home.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen slept between Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Feng, the four of them snuggled together, sleeping soundly.

The next morning, when Fu Xiaoxiao woke up, Lu Feng had already gone, and breakfast was laid out on the table, with the snow-white broth...

Fu Xiaoxiao lazily yawned.

When she woke, Lu Lin and Lu Chen also stirred and sat up, sleepily rubbing their eyes.

"Morning!" Fu Xiaoxiao said with a smile, seeing the two who could flop back to sleep at any moment.

"...Morning, Mom." Lu Chen said, scratching his little belly as he got up, still thinking he was at home, and bumped into the table after a couple steps.

Blinking, he stood there dumbly for a while before his brain slowly rebooted, remembering he was now in his new home.

Luckily, he explored the house yesterday and knew where the toilet was, so he yawned as he walked over.

Once at the toilet, he suddenly felt wide awake.

"Mom! There’s something strange in the toilet!"

Yesterday he hadn’t noticed it, but today, after searching around without finding anything, he only saw a strange thing with a big mouth.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled, and as she entered the toilet, found Lu Chen holding his crotch, flushed and anxious. "Mom, I need to pee!"

"This is a toilet. After you pee in here, press this button and it will flush." Fu Xiaoxiao explained to Lu Chen.

"Mom, hurry out, I’m about to burst!" Lu Chen nodded frantically, almost bursting at the seams.

Fu Xiaoxiao hurriedly left the toilet, and Lu Chen finally tended to his physiological needs, then curiously inspected the toilet.

"Bro, come and look!" Lu Chen shouted from the toilet, taking ages because they’d never seen this thing before.

Lu Lin scratched his head, looking at Lu Chen in disbelief, finding amusement in how excited he was over the toilet.

Fu Xiaoxiao went to the kitchen, thankful that she’d brought the condiments along. On the floor was a pile of delivered vegetables and fruits, probably from Wang Zhijun’s morning delivery.

After organizing everything, Fu Xiaoxiao boiled two pots of water and poured them into thermoses.

"Mom, what is this?" Lu Chen asked, holding a bowl of stuff that looked like milk, with an indescribable expression on his face.

Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the contents of the bowl and chuckled. "This is called ’douzhi’, a specialty around here in Beijing."

"...Isn’t it spoiled?" Lu Chen had a hard-to-describe expression, having thought it was milk and guzzled a big gulp.

Because he drank too fast, he realized it tasted wrong after it went down, beginning to doubt whether his tongue was faulty, not suspecting the bowl of ’douzhi’.

"No, this is exactly how it tastes," Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled. This is why she went to the kitchen first thing in the morning.

Knowing they definitely couldn’t get used to this stuff.

She herself couldn’t handle it either.

"Mom, I want to eat the noodles you make," Lu Chen pitifully clung to Fu Xiaoxiao’s leg. "I know I shouldn’t waste food, but..."

"I really can’t accept this," Lu Chen tearfully exclaimed.

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced up to see Lu Lin also holding a bowl, adhering to the principle of not wasting food, and obviously trying hard to drink it.

"Xiao Lin, don’t force yourself," Fu Xiaoxiao quickly intervened. "This ’douzhi’ isn’t something you can accept right away."

"I’ll make you noodles." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and went to the kitchen, making a simple bowl of noodles for them amid the kids’ hopeful gazes.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen buried their heads in the noodles, eating without looking up.

After finishing their meal, Fu Xiaoxiao got the two kids together to organize everything as the workers for the attic arrived with glass windows, effortlessly installing the skylight, sealing it up, and finishing the job.

With the railing installed, their work was done.

"Thank you so much," Fu Xiaoxiao said, pleased with their fast and efficient work.

"You’re welcome," the two said with a smile, waving goodbye.

"Mom, is it finished?" Lu Chen asked impatiently, stomping his little feet excitedly.

"Yes, we just need to clean up, and you and your brother can have your secret base," Fu Xiaoxiao said with a smile.

"I’m going to get water!" Lu Chen ran off excitedly to get some.

Lu Lin grabbed a cloth and climbed up, waiting for Lu Chen to bring the water so they could clean the inside.

Fu Xiaoxiao watched her two kids work so harmoniously, not letting her up to help, saying it should be their responsibility since it was their secret base.

Once they were done cleaning, Lu Chen and Lu Lin took the bedding up, and Fu Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but chuckle at their cheerful chatter.

Kids are really easy to please.

Just fulfilling a small request from them can keep them happy all day.

Fu Xiaoxiao thought it was a trivial matter, but little did she know, just because she opened that skylight, they became the talk of the compound.

"Just opening a skylight because the kids want it? Isn’t that spoiling them too much?"

"I’ve heard she’s their stepmom, not their biological mother. Could she be trying to ruin them?"

"It’s not that bad, a stepmother willing to do such a thing for them is already pretty good."

"Can’t figure out what she’s thinking. Now my brat heard about it from somewhere and wants a skylight too..."

"Coincidentally, mine does too."

Several residents gathered, unable to resist complaining.

Fu Xiaoxiao and her family just arrived yesterday, with eyes on their every move, and within just one day, even the fact she’s a stepmom was known.

Kids in the courtyard were pampered from a young age, getting whatever they wanted, whenever. When there’s something new, they all want it immediately.

Originally, they planned to show the newcomers Lu Lin and Lu Chen around, but these boys quickly unlocked something unattainable for others.

—’The Skylight.’

Now they’ve stirred up quite the group of little dynamos.

When Fu Xiaoxiao faced several residents with unclear intentions, she paused, then stepped aside to invite them in for a seat.

"Excuse us for bothering you. We’re your neighbors. Sister, if you need help since you’re new, feel free to ask us. Oh, I’m Qin Shuang, living in 105."

"I’m Zhao Shishi. I live in 107."

"Hello, I’m Li Xiaomei, living next door in 104."

"Hello, I’m Fu Xiaoxiao and these are my two kids, Lu Lin and Lu Chen." Fu Xiaoxiao nodded graciously and introduced herself.

"Don’t stand outside, come in and sit down?" Fu Xiaoxiao invited them inside.

The three nodded, having intended this all along. Once they stepped in, they looked around, noticing there weren’t many changes.

"Sit down, let me make you some tea," Fu Xiaoxiao said with a smile, going to the kitchen to brew a pot of good tea the family received from Liu Hongjun.

"Wonder what good tea she has?" Qin Shuang was a bit curious, while the other two blinked indifferently.

They didn’t care much about what tea Fu Xiaoxiao had, assuming it couldn’t be anything spectacular.
