Chapter 216: Chapter 147: This Life is Getting More and More Worthy of a Sentence
Fourth District, station platform.
Song Xiaoxing’s Flying Machine had a license plate from another district, so he had to complete some paperwork before going through the security check. Waiting in line to register would also take some time.
While he went to get the entry permits, Shu Yao and Ke Dancheng didn’t just wait idly in the Flying Machine. Instead, they went to get in line for him at the registration desk.
Shu Yao called Ke Dancheng a mind reader, but most of the time, he still had no idea what she was thinking. The trip here had been a case in point.
"Sister Yao, Song Xiaoxing was about to drop us off at the Traffic Police Division. Why did you suddenly have him turn back?"
It was because Shu Yao had suddenly realized something about her flying ban seemed suspicious.
Shu Yao said pensively, "The footage of my Flying Machine being attacked was captured on camera that day. But the abandoned building district where I made the emergency landing afterward has no surveillance, right? And after that, the signal in that entire area was jammed.
"In other words, nothing that happened after the attack got out. There was no way for footage from the accident scene to be entered into the traffic police system.
"If they were going to ground me, they should have done it the day of the incident. I even flew that same damaged Flying Machine from school all the way home that day.
"Two days have passed since then. But I only received the sanction from the traffic police system today."
A subtle glint appeared in Ke Dancheng’s eyes. "Unless... someone reported you. Or, the Austin family is using the traffic police system to mess with you."
"Exactly. You and I..." Shu Yao said, "We’ve reached pretty much the same conclusion."
’The Austin family suffered a major setback because of her; how could they possibly take it lying down? If they didn’t retaliate, would they even be the Austin family?’
’A bunch of bastards who never learn their lesson!’
Ke Dancheng said, "If that’s really the case, getting the ban lifted won’t be so easy."
Shu Yao mulled it over. "If that’s true, then grounding me probably isn’t their ultimate goal."
Ke Dancheng suddenly whispered, "Sister Yao."
She followed his gaze and saw several patrol officers approaching.
She raised a hand in greeting. "Brother Chu."
The patrol officer in the lead was Chu Jiang, a colleague of her uncle. He had been part of the team that went with Shu Chao Yu to the abandoned building district that day.
Seeing Shu Yao, Chu Jiang made a point of coming over to greet her. "Yaoyao, the captain was treating us yesterday. How come you didn’t join?"
"Something came up at home," Shu Yao replied with a smile, adding a joking promise, "Next time, I’ll join you guys in fleecing my uncle."
"Then it’s a deal," Chu Jiang said with a laugh. Thinking of Xiao Juzi, who had hung out with them all day yesterday, he couldn’t help but add, "Your son is adorable!"
"Of course he is. Take a look at who his mother is," Shu Yao said, falling into a pleasant chat with Chu Jiang and the others.
Ke Dancheng noticed something else and leaned in to whisper, "Sister Yao, a Flying Machine from the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters."
Shu Yao looked over and, sure enough, saw a Flying Machine bearing the insignia of the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters.
Two people in traffic police uniforms disembarked and headed over to process their inter-district entry permits.
Chu Jiang and the others followed their gaze.
"Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters?"
"I haven’t heard about any emergencies. And even if there were, they’d dispatch officers from the nearest district first."
It would take a major traffic accident to get these pampered folks from Zone One involved. Besides, even if the headquarters staff were on a mission, they’d use the priority corridor.
"Oh, look, they’re going to get entry permits for our Fourth District." Someone noticed the officers from the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters heading toward the Fourth District’s registration desk.
"They didn’t use the priority lane, so it seems they don’t want to alert anyone. Trying to keep a low profile while driving a Flying Machine with the headquarters insignia... I really don’t get what goes on in their heads."
"Brother Chu," Shu Yao said, stepping closer to Chu Jiang and lowering her voice. "Could you run some interference on those guys from the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters for me? If you can’t stop them, just stall them."
Chu Jiang froze for a moment, his mind flashing back to what had happened in the abandoned building district.
Snapping out of it, he grinned. "No problem."
He exchanged a look with his partners.
The others took the hint, moving to intercept the officers from the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters before they could get in line at the registration desk.
Chu Jiang scanned the area, but he didn’t see the flashy "Big Bumblebee" Flying Machine from yesterday. He only knew the Big Bumblebee belonged to Shu Yao because Shu Chao Yu had told him.
"Where’s your Flying Machine?"
Shu Yao said, "I’ve been grounded."
That made Chu Jiang even more certain that the officers from the Zone One Traffic Police Headquarters were here for her.
His expression grew serious. "Then how did you get here?"
"I came in a friend’s Flying Machine. His plates are from Zone One, and he’s processing the entry permit now," Shu Yao said.
