Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 234: They Are All Rich Heirs

Chapter 234 -226: They Are All Rich Heirs

‘That man had been the heir to a fortune. She had treated his illness once, and he’d claimed it was love at first sight, pursuing her relentlessly. When he saw her rushing around the operating room day after day, he said: “The hospital is too exhausting. Just quit. As long as you’re willing, I can set up a home for you anywhere in the world, in any country. All you have to do is say yes.”‘

“I don’t want to go, Meng Nan. Thank you for your kind offer.” ‘Rejecting Meng Nan felt just like rejecting that other man.’

‘Everyone wants a comfortable, stable life, free from worries about food and clothing, a lifetime of pleasure.’

‘But all of that shouldn’t be built on the back of a man. If you want a certain kind of life, you should fight for it yourself. You should use your own two hands to make your dreams a reality, not rely on someone else’s charity.’

‘No one can be your pillar of support for a lifetime. It’s better to rely on yourself than on anyone else. That was her motto.’

‘If she were to go to the Capital City in the future, she would do it on her own strength. She would use her own two hands to support herself and her mother.’

‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch. To gain something, you were destined to lose something else.’

‘Your dignity, or your body.’

‘She didn’t want to take anything from anyone else, and she wouldn’t allow herself to lose anything either.’

Meng Nan wanted to say more, but Bai Zhi had already turned and walked away.

For lunch, she made dumplings and rolled egg pancakes—favorites of Meng Nan and Jin Xiao’an—and also stir-fried two very spicy dishes. Jin Xiao’an ate with gusto, but Meng Nan’s appetite was poor. He frowned silently, a glum look on his face.

Seeing Meng Nan’s sullen face, Jin Xiao’an couldn’t resist trying to coax him. “Young Master, why aren’t you eating more? In a few days we’ll be gone, and we won’t get to taste Miss Bai’s cooking ever again.”

This was really pouring salt in the wound. Meng Nan was already vexed about this very issue, yet here was Jin Xiao’an, stuffing his face like nothing was wrong, only to twist the knife with his words afterward.

Meng Nan shot Jin Xiao’an a vicious glare and, with a CLACK, slammed his chopsticks onto the table. “I’m done eating! We’re going back!”

In a huff, Meng Nan stood up, stormed out the door, and rode off on his horse.

Jin Xiao’an sighed helplessly and got up to follow, but a completely bewildered Zhao Lan stopped him. “Jin guard, what’s wrong with Lord Meng? Who upset him?”

Jin Xiao’an glanced at Bai Zhi and said, “It’s not really Miss Bai’s fault. My young master is just too stubborn. He wanted Miss Bai to go with him to the Capital City, but she refused, so now he’s throwing a fit!”

After his explanation, Jin Xiao’an turned back to Bai Zhi. “Miss Bai, my young master and I are leaving Qingyuan Town in three days. Will you come see us off?”

Bai Zhi nodded. “Of course. I’ll be there.” ‘Meng Nan and Jin Xiao’an were both good people, and she genuinely considered them friends. When friends were departing on a long journey, it was only right to see them off.’

Jin Xiao’an grinned. “If you come see us off, the young master will definitely cheer up. Oh, and don’t come empty-handed. You’ve spoiled his palate. I’m afraid the rations from the government office will be impossible to stomach after your cooking.”

Bai Zhi smiled. “I know.”

Jin Xiao’an started to leave, but after a few steps, he turned back, scratching his head sheepishly. “But don’t just prepare some for the young master. Make a portion for me too.”

Only after seeing Bai Zhi nod did he leave, overjoyed, spurring his horse to catch up with his young master.

Zhao Lan pulled Bai Zhi down to sit at the table. “Does Lord Meng really want to take you to the Capital City?”

Nearby, Hu Feng paused, his chopsticks hovering over the food. He didn’t look at her, but his ears twitched slightly.

Bai Zhi gave a faint smile. “Yes. He said that if we wanted, he would arrange for us to go to the Capital City and guarantee us a lifetime of wealth and comfort, free from any worldly worries.”
