Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 278 - 270: Constipation

Chapter 278: Chapter 270: Constipation

Boss Qian snorted coldly. "Follow them. Find out their story."

At his age, he had never been crossed like this. He had to vent his anger, one way or another.

The carriage rounded a mountain path and bounced along the uneven dirt road, the jostling making Bai Zhi drowsy.

Suddenly, the carriage stopped. The inertia threw her off balance, and she nearly tumbled over.

"Are we there?" She poked her head out of the carriage, her eyes half-lidded, only to see they had stopped in the middle of the road. There were fields on both sides, and in the distance, Huangtuo Village was faintly visible.

Hu Feng had already gotten out of the carriage and was nowhere to be seen.

Bai Zhi muttered to herself, "Did he go to relieve himself? Why else would he stop the carriage right here?"

She didn’t get out, afraid she might see something she shouldn’t.

After a moment, Hu Feng returned, a thin layer of sweat beading on his forehead. She quickly pulled a handkerchief from her sleeve and handed it to him. "Here, wipe your face. Look at you, all sweaty. Don’t tell me you’ve been eating too much meat lately and gotten constipated?"

Hu Feng shot her a sideways glance. "What nonsense are you spouting? You’re a young lady, yet you’ll say anything that comes to mind."

Bai Zhi shrugged. "I’m just showing a little friendly concern. Constipation is nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of people have this problem. I’m a doctor, and I know a quick way to treat it. If you need it, I—"

Hu Feng immediately cut her off. "Someone was following us."

Bai Zhi froze. "What did you say?"

"Someone was following us. At first, I thought they were just traveling in the same direction. But the person was on horseback, so they should have been faster than our carriage. Yet he stayed a constant distance away, never getting too close or too far. I deliberately took a detour down a path that’s rarely used, and he followed us there too. I’m certain he was tailing us."

Bai Zhi was confused. "Who was it? Why would they follow us?"

Hu Feng shook his head. "I don’t know. I was about to go intercept and question him, but when he saw me get out of the carriage from a distance, he immediately turned and fled. I couldn’t catch up."

"Of course you couldn’t," Bai Zhi retorted. "He was on a horse and you were on foot. It would’ve been a miracle if you’d caught him."

Hu Feng’s brow was furrowed, his expression distant. "You need to be extra careful for a while," he said quietly. "Don’t go anywhere alone, and tell me before you leave, no matter where it is."

Bai Zhi giggled. "Do I have to report to you when I go to the outhouse, too?"

Hu Feng rolled his eyes at her. "You’re a young lady; you shouldn’t talk like a crude oaf." But despite his words, a smile played on his lips.

"Yah—" The carriage started moving again, heading toward Huangtuo Village.

The man who had fled earlier emerged from behind an old tree where he’d been hiding. Only after he watched the carriage enter Huangtuo Village with his own eyes did he leave, satisfied.

As the carriage entered the village and passed the Bai Family’s home, they happened to run into Doctor Lu, who was just walking out of the courtyard with his medical kit in hand.

Doctor Lu greeted Hu Feng and Bai Zhi. "You’re back! Did the tubers sell well?"

Although Doctor Lu didn’t see them often, he heard fresh gossip about them every day.

These days, Bai Zhi and Hu Feng had practically become village celebrities, their every move watched with great interest.

Bai Zhi leaned out of the carriage and said to Doctor Lu, "They sold very well! What brings you here? Is someone in the Bai Family sick?"

Doctor Lu waved a dismissive hand. "Not sick, no. It’s Bai Dazhu—he broke his leg. That boy is really something. His hands just finished healing, and now he’s gone and broken his leg. Looks like he won’t be doing any work in the fields this year."
