Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264:- Emperor Ren is Out of Control [ii]
Ren slowly closed his eyes. Under the table, both of his fists were tightly clenched. He was gripping them so hard that his fingernails had already dug into his palms. Small amounts of blood began flowing from the wounds, but Ren did not seem to notice the pain.
For the next few minutes, nobody inside the tent dared to speak. The soldier remained kneeling on the ground, while the nobles and military officers quietly watched their Emperor. They could clearly see that Ren was struggling to control his emotions, and none of them wanted to become the target of his anger.
However, after several minutes of complete silence, something unexpected happened.
Ren slowly opened his eyes. The furious expression that had been on his face only moments earlier had completely disappeared. Instead, he now looked extremely calm. There was even a small, warm smile on his face.
Seeing this sudden change, several nobles felt slightly uncomfortable. Only a few minutes earlier, Ren had looked as if he wanted to kill everyone inside the tent. Yet now, he was smiling as though he had just received some wonderful news.
Ren slowly turned his attention toward the soldier who had delivered the report. "You know what? You did an excellent job reporting this matter to me as quickly as possible. I appreciate your hard work." Ren said in a surprisingly gentle tone.
Hearing those words, the soldier raised his head slightly. He had expected the Emperor to become furious after hearing the news. In fact, he had been afraid that Ren might punish him simply for delivering such terrible information.
However, seeing the Emperor smiling and praising him made the soldier feel slightly relieved. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I was only carrying out my duty." The soldier replied respectfully.
Ren continued smiling at him. "You deserve a reward for your excellent service. Come here. I want to give you something personally." Ren said while gesturing for the soldier to approach him.
Hearing this, the soldier immediately became hesitant. For some reason, he felt that something was wrong.
Although Ren was smiling, the soldier could not shake the uncomfortable feeling growing inside his heart.
However, when he hesitated, a few of the soldiers standing behind him quietly nudged him forward. They believed that the Emperor was genuinely planning to reward him, and refusing such an offer would only be disrespectful.
Left with no other choice, the soldier slowly stood up and approached Ren. When he finally stopped in front of the Emperor, Ren looked at him with the same warm smile.
"You did a very nice job. Thank you for your service." Ren said gently.
The soldier lowered his head. "It is my honor to serve Your Majesty." The soldier replied.
However, before he could say anything else, Ren suddenly reached into his storage ring and took out a large butcher knife. The sudden appearance of the weapon immediately confused the soldier.
But before he could understand what was happening, Ren’s left hand shot forward and grabbed him tightly by the back of his neck. In the next instant, Ren violently slammed the soldier’s face against the surface of the long table.
BANG!
The impact was so powerful that the soldier’s nose broke immediately, and blood began spreading across the table. Before anyone could react, Ren raised the butcher knife with his right hand and brought it down against the soldier’s exposed neck.
With a single powerful strike, he completely severed the soldier’s head from his body. Blood immediately sprayed across the table, staining Ren’s face and clothes.
The soldier’s head rolled across the surface of the table before falling onto the ground, while his headless body remained leaning against the table for a brief moment.
For several seconds, everyone inside the tent was completely frozen.
The nobles stared at Ren with their eyes widened in disbelief. Some of the military officers instinctively stood up from their chairs, while the soldiers near the entrance looked absolutely terrified.
Nobody had expected Ren to suddenly kill the soldier. Only a few seconds earlier, he had been smiling warmly and praising the man for his excellent service.
And now, that same soldier was lying dead in front of everyone. The sudden change was so shocking that nobody could understand what had just happened.
Several nobles exchanged frightened looks. In their minds, they could only reach one conclusion. Ren had finally snapped.
After suffering such enormous losses on the battlefield, watching Aditya slaughter his soldiers, being forced to order a retreat, and now learning that his most valuable hostages had escaped, it seemed that the Emperor had finally reached his limit.
However, Ren did not seem bothered by what he had just done. He calmly looked at the blood covering his hands and clothes before turning his attention toward the headless body lying beside the table.
Without showing the slightest emotion, he kicked the corpse away from him. The body fell onto the ground with a heavy sound.
Ren then turned toward the remaining soldiers standing near the entrance.
"Clean everything. Now." Ren ordered in an extremely cold voice.
The soldiers immediately rushed forward. None of them dared to hesitate after witnessing what had just happened. They quickly removed the body and severed head before beginning to clean the blood from the table and the surrounding floor.
Meanwhile, Ren calmly returned to his chair and sat down as though nothing unusual had happened. The nobles and military officers slowly returned to their seats as well, although none of them dared to look directly at the Emperor for too long.
At that moment, Ren’s lover, who had been sitting beside him throughout the meeting, quietly took out a bottle of extremely expensive red wine from her storage ring.
This was a rare wine that could not be purchased easily, even by wealthy nobles. However, she did not hesitate to open the bottle and pour a full glass for Ren.
She understood that he needed something to calm himself down.
Ren accepted the glass without saying anything. He immediately raised it to his lips and drank the entire glass of wine in one go. After finishing it, he slammed the empty glass against the table.
The loud sound caused several people to flinch, but nobody dared to say anything.
As the alcohol entered his body, Ren gradually began feeling a little calmer. Although his anger had not disappeared, he was finally able to organize his thoughts instead of allowing his emotions to completely control him.
He slowly raised his head and looked at the large transparent screen floating above the long table.
On the screen, Aditya could still be seen slaughtering the Emperor Faction’s soldiers. The retreat had already begun, but the casualties were continuing to increase.
Ren silently watched his cousin for several moments.
He had lost an enormous number of soldiers. His army had suffered a humiliating defeat in the very first battle. His most valuable hostages had been rescued, and the Imperial Royal Palace had suffered enormous damage.
Almost everything that could have gone wrong had already gone wrong. And the person responsible for most of his problems was the same man currently appearing on the screen.
Ren continued staring at his cousin before slowly making up his mind. There was something he had been avoiding until now. Something he had never intended to use unless the situation became completely hopeless.
However, after everything that had happened today, Ren finally understood that he could no longer continue relying on his original plans. If he wanted to defeat Aditya, he would have to take much greater risks.
A cold expression slowly appeared on Ren’s face as he continued watching the battlefield.
’It seems I have no choice but to release him.’ Ren thought to himself.
His eyes became colder as another thought appeared in his mind.
’If I am going to lose this war, then I am going to take everything and everyone down with me.’
But after a few seconds of thinking, Ren decided to not bring him out now. Bringing him out carried so much risk that Ren had not even thought of bringing him to the battlefield up until now.
’There is still hope.’
’The mercenaries still could change the tide of the entire battle.’ Ren did not send the 100,000 mercenaries to the first battle. Because for the mercenaries to be useful, they needed to consume something that the organisation leader Leo had given them.
So their full strength will only appear in the second battle.
’In the second battle, as long as we can kill a few hundred thousand of Aditya’s troops, then the tide of the entire war would shift in our favour.’ For the second battle, Ren had no intention of holding anything back. The second battle will be an all-out war against Aditya and his people.
