Chapter 123: Chapter 124: Treasure Exchange Conference
"It should be ready in about three days, though our fees are quite high. The owner of this Bone Hammer actually approached us before, but our technology wasn’t mature enough at the time, so we turned them down," the manager said with a smile. It was a great sign that customers were coming to them right as their technology had matured.
"Alright, we’ll talk more when the time comes," Yang Bo said with a nod.
Hearing this, the manager asked, "Is the General planning to attend the treasure exchange convention hosted by the Ash Organization?"
Yang Bo’s interest was piqued, but he merely let out an impatient grunt.
"Haha, I wonder what kind of shape the General wants it forged into?" The manager quickly chuckled and asked, picking up on Yang Bo’s impatience. These Mutants all had eccentric personalities.
"Forge it into a Sword?" Yang Bo asked tentatively.
"I apologize, but our technology hasn’t reached that level yet. What we can do right now is only optimization; we haven’t achieved full restructuring yet... In other words, the general shape will remain unchanged." Perhaps feeling that his explanation was too complicated, the manager rephrased it.
"Then make it into a Hammer. Flat on one end, pointed on the other." Yang Bo thought of the Hammer he had used the most for work in his past life. It was handy to use.
The manager smiled and nodded. "Alright, no problem."
Inwardly, however, the manager mocked, "These Mutants’ aesthetic tastes are exactly as expected."
After Yang Bo left, two people wearing Biological Mechas came to carry the Bone Hammer inside. Watching Yang Bo’s retreating figure, the manager thought, "This Black Blade General can lift this Bone Hammer so effortlessly? What attribute does this guy have?"
Mutants were highly secretive about their Power attributes, especially the leaders, so the manager had no idea.
Yang Bo used Invisibility and snuck back. Watching his Bone Hammer being carried in by the two people in Biological Mechas, he was suspicious. "Is it really that heavy?"
The Bone Hammer was placed inside a large container. Two people wearing Protective Suits operated the machinery for a while before sealing the container.
They then entered the control room and took off their Protective Helmets. One of them said, "This is the second time this Bone Hammer has been here, right?"
"Exactly. They asked us to work on it last time, but we couldn’t do it."
"Should we analyze the data?"
"It’s useless. We’ve analyzed the bones of many Mutated Beasts. Even though we know their composition, we still have no way to restructure them. It’s just like Energy Metals. So far, all we can do is mine it. The artificial stuff is pure garbage."
"I guess that’s the magic of materials science. With the same materials but different crafting techniques, the final products turn out completely different."
"It’s not just materials science, but genetics as well. Some even suspect it has to do with what the creatures eat and their living environments."
"What attribute is this one?"
"No idea. Just like those Energy Weapons, without homological Energy to activate them, there’s absolutely no way to know what attribute they are. Otherwise, those selling Energy Weapons would have struck it rich a long time ago."
"What a pity..."
Listening from the sidelines, Yang Bo felt they made sense. However, he decided to observe a bit longer first. If this turned out to be an enemy’s base, heh heh!
After the two fiddled with the controls for a while, one of them asked, "What shape should we select for the molding?"
"These Mutants have zero aesthetic sense. Pointed on one end, flat on the other."
"Isn’t that just a basic Iron Hammer tool?"
"Haha, exactly! Haha, these Mutants’ tastes are truly pathetic."
"We’ll go with this then?"
Yang Bo watched the two operate the equipment, but he couldn’t see what they were doing. They were wearing Virtual Glasses, but they were tethered by a wire. Yang Bo suspected there was some unknown Energy radiation down here; otherwise, they could easily have made them wireless.
"Are you going to the Ash Organization’s treasure exchange convention? Last time, a researcher traded for a piece of rare Energy Metal. He was directly promoted to supervisor as soon as he got back."
"Might as well go take a look. But in recent years, these Mutants haven’t been easy to fool. They demand whatever price they want."
"Plus, our own people keep bidding up the prices whenever they see something good."
"We can’t help it. Certain things require a continuous supply of new resources."
Yang Bo decided not to take his Bone Hammer back right now. Instead, he planned to follow these guys to see how this so-called treasure exchange convention swindled Mutants.
Why was he going? Naturally, he had to see it for himself. On one hand, it was to broaden his horizons. On the other, he wanted to see if the Genetic Potion company targeting him had a branch here. If they did, they couldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
Yang Bo wasn’t the type to kill people at random. But as for those mongrels from his enemy’s side—kill them all!
Yang Bo had also carefully studied Biological Mechas and found them to be nothing spectacular.
These so-called Biological Mechas were actually specific parts of Mutated Beasts cultivated in isolation. They were grown separately and supplied with various nutrient solutions. These individually cultivated parts lacked their own consciousness, and once the cultivation process was complete, they would be reprocessed for use.
The final assembled Biological Mecha was basically a living puppet. Devoid of self-awareness, it was completely controlled by the Mutants.
As for a Biological Mecha’s attribute, it depended on the nutrient solution. The quality of a Biological Mecha was rated based on its Energy conversion rate.
An Energy conversion rate of over ninety percent was considered top-tier. In other words, the Biological Mecha would consume a portion of the user’s Energy.
"It’s similar to Mechas. A Mecha’s Energy conversion rate also consumes a portion of it.
"However, Mechas consume batteries, whereas Biological Mechas consume the Mutant’s own Power." With this analysis, Yang Bo immediately understood why Biological Mechas had never gained traction among humans.
Yang Bo also knew that Biological Mechas could be custom-made here. In other words, as long as one provided a biological sample, a Biological Mecha could be customized based on that sample’s genetics. Custom-made Biological Mechas naturally performed better, though they were usually only commissioned by various tribal leaders for their subordinates.
Yang Bo eventually confirmed that this company wasn’t his nemesis, the Genetic Potion company. Instead, it was a Mecha manufacturing company. Their research facility here primarily focused on Biological Mechas, and they would conveniently trade Biological Mechas for rare materials, such as Energy Metals and the like.
Yang Bo also knew that humans were currently unable to manufacture most Energy Metals. They could only be obtained through natural means. And according to estimates, the Green Demon Star possessed a massive reserve of Energy Metals.
Furthermore, this Green Demon Star emitted peculiar Energy Fluctuations, causing many of humanity’s detection devices to only be capable of roughly surveying surface-level areas. Deep underground areas were entirely impossible to scan.
One organization had even drilled a detection well several thousand meters deep here, only to yield zero data. Once the probes and other scientific equipment were lowered into the well, they detected absolutely nothing.
However, Yang Bo didn’t sit idle either. From a safe distance away from the base, he practiced his abilities.
Summoning a flame in his left hand, he casually tossed it. A fireball instantly shot out dozens of meters before smoothly swerving into a small adjacent tunnel.
Inside, a rat’s eyes widened in terror before it was struck by the sudden flames, its entire body erupting in fire.
"Compressed Fire Energy can cause an explosive combustion effect on the target." Yang Bo was very satisfied.
