Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Bro, Change Careers
Yang Bo followed the fat boss on two trips to the administrative department and had his immigration procedures sorted out. There was no medical examination or anything else, because it had been less than a year since Yang Bo’s last physical. It was well within the exemption period for medical checks and visas. March Star officially received his files; from now on, Yang Bo was an F-class citizen of March Star.
All that remained was the journey. Taking a Spaceship to the Administrative Star where March Star was located would take about three months.
The fat boss was still processing procedures for others. Their situations were a bit more complicated than Yang Bo’s because they had loans. They needed to settle their local Administrative Star loans before they could immigrate. Every planet had different financial policies. March Star was an emerging Administrative Star with many financial incentives, whereas Pado Star, an established Administrative Star, offered far fewer perks. Furthermore, the financial businesses were handled by different conglomerates.
This reminded Yang Bo of Mei back on Earth. Every state in that country had its own legal documents, some completely contradicting each other. What was illegal in one state might be perfectly legal in another.
"It seems the original owner’s talent is truly garbage," Yang Bo thought. "After so much training, the Mecha Pilot Skill remains exactly the same. That means even if I possess the Skill, trying to learn and increase its experience naturally is completely impossible due to the body’s innate limitations. It can only be continuously enhanced through cheats."
Yang Bo didn’t know exactly when the Spaceship would depart, but he would be notified in advance. Upon returning home, he continued his Mecha training and began familiarizing himself with Metal Control.
Ten days before he was scheduled to leave Pado Star, Yang Bo received a notification. Inside the Mecha game, the Justice Gang had gathered once more, trading insults with the Bird Slaying Gang on the forums.
Logging into the game, Yang Bo watched the Justice Gang members from afar. There were over thirty of them.
"Tsk, tsk," Yang Bo sighed. "A third of these guys are actually using Flying Mechas, and another third have ranged Mechas. But your buddy here is heading to the Underground World this time. Are you sure you have brains, bringing those toys down there?"
He muttered to himself, "Oh, right. You don’t know where I’m going."
Covered from head to toe in bombs, Yang Bo stepped out. His Mecha’s two hands flipped the Justice Gang a pair of universally recognized friendly gestures.
"Argh! Blast him to death! Grab the bombs, Hydrogen Bombs, Plasma Bombs!"
The Gang Leader of the Justice Gang had figured out a good method this time. The game prohibited friendly fire, meaning Mechas couldn’t lock onto fellow players. However, bombs dealt area-of-effect damage. This time, the Justice Gang had formulated a strict plan to blow up Bird Slayer Brother using bombs. They even had specific people assigned to throw them and take the blame.
Under normal circumstances, accidentally damaging another player’s Mecha required compensation. However, the designated scapegoats weren’t afraid—they had no money, so the system could do whatever it wanted to them.
As he walked, Yang Bo controlled his Mecha to slay birds and kill rats, while also tossing provocations at the drones in the sky.
"Hurry, quick! Go send a message to our neighbor." In the mysterious underground space, the Tiger-faced King was feeling a bit bored when he received the news.
How did the Tiger-faced King recognize Yang Bo so easily? First, there was only one third-generation Mecha at this base. Sure, a second one might appear, but secondly, who the hell used a Mecha to slay birds and stomp on rats for fun? Third, very few Mechas walked all the way to their destinations. Meeting all three criteria made it an absolute certainty.
Even if only one of those criteria matched, the Tiger-faced King would still inform his neighbor. After all, it wasn’t him going out to confront that jinx. If the target wasn’t the jinx and ended up getting killed by the neighbor, they deserved it. If it was the jinx, then even better!
Looking at the jinx’s route, the Tiger-faced King immediately deduced that he must be heading to the Underworld. He hurriedly passed the word to his good neighbor.
"It seems I’ll play for a while longer, then retake the assessment and swap to a new Mecha," Yang Bo thought.
Why wasn’t he afraid? Because he could always change Mechas! As long as he met certain assessment requirements, he could swap to a different generation of Mecha. Of course, he would have to repair his current Mecha to its pristine, initial state first.
"Haha! This pervert is actually going to the Underworld. Let’s go! Keep the Plasma Bombs ready! Have the Hydrogen Bombs ready too! This son of a bitch is courting death!" the Gang Leader of the Justice Gang shouted upon discovering Yang Bo’s path.
Both sides were scheming against each other, locked in a mutual attempt at sabotage. The Bird Slaying Gang had also sent people to trail them; over a dozen seventh and Eighth Generation Mechas, equipped with various gear, were quietly tailing the Justice Gang.
"Boss, let’s change professions. This pay-per-view livestreaming makes insane money! It’s way better than the business we were doing."
"Exactly. Over seventy thousand people have already paid. We’ve pulled in seven million Credit Points."
"Boss, how about we actually switch careers? Back in the day, whenever we managed to get our hands on some good stuff, those bastard conglomerates would only give us a ten percent cut."
"Shut up. Let’s see how things play out first. We can’t let Bird Slayer Brother die, or no one will watch our next stream."
"Got it, boss. Our last livestream brought in sixteen million Credit Points. No wonder so many people play this crappy game!"
"Boss, if Bird Slayer Brother gets caught in real life, we should bust him out and force him to log into the game every day. The kid took so many days just to get back online."
"Damn right."
"Alright, pipe down. Bird Slayer Brother is going in."
Just as Yang Bo entered the entrance of the Underworld, the members of the Justice Gang landed directly behind him. There was nothing he could do about it—their Advanced Mechas could fly.
BOOM!
However, the moment they arrived at the cave entrance, a fierce shockwave blasted them. Warning sirens blared incessantly across all thirty-plus Mechas.
"Bastard! Kill him!" The Gang Leader of the Justice Gang, an effeminate man, shrieked in a distorted voice.
"Yes, sir!"
The reason Yang Bo had set off the bomb was precisely to enrage the Justice Gang and to simultaneously announce his arrival to the Mutants.
On the Bird Slaying Gang’s livestream, the viewership suddenly spiked from seventy thousand to eighty thousand. The entry fee was a hundred Credit Points, which was practically pocket change.
"Haha, Bird Slayer Brother is making his move!"
"Quick, get in there and watch! It’s a dogfight between these two groups!"
"Hell yeah! Last time, Bird Slayer Brother wiped out eleven Advanced Mechas in one fell swoop. Watching that made my blood boil with excitement!"
"Quick, I’m tipping ten thousand Credit Points! Get in there already!"
Yang Bo moved rapidly through the Underworld. The ultra-fast reaction speed granted by his Dynamic Field of View allowed him to speed furiously through the underground tunnels using his Flying Backpack.
They could see each other’s tracks on the radar. Yang Bo planned to head to the Celestial Pit from last time. If there were no Mutants by the time he got there, he would just head back. If there were Mutants, he would turn around and flee toward his pursuers.
"Huh?"
Suddenly, the game screen caught Yang Bo by surprise. The tracks on the ground were distinctly different, suggesting that something frequently moved around the area. He subconsciously remembered that he also possessed a tracking ability.
He controlled the Mecha, pivoting its body to follow the tracks. The Underworld was pitch black, but thanks to the Mecha’s high-tech optics, it looked no different than if it were fully illuminated.
