Chapter 68: Fragrant Tier Two Spirit Rice

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Fragrant Tier Two Spirit Rice

If the incident at Purple Cloud Peak could be described as a storm of blood and gore, then Chen Mo was, at best, an insignificant pawn caught within it. Yet amidst such treacherous and unpredictable circumstances, for any pawn, this was a world-shattering event concerning life and death!

Twenty taels of Spiritual Sand had been completely squandered overnight.

Early the next morning, Chen Mo bid farewell to the still-resting Song Yunxi and returned to his Spirit Field.

This incident also made him realize the importance of backing and influence, in addition to personal strength. Especially when one was weak, a reliable backer was the true Guardian on the path of growth. Otherwise, possessing Talent without support would make it incredibly difficult to rise and reach the absolute peak!

When Chen Mo returned to the small wooden cabin, Kang was currently using its sharp beak to peck the behinds of the other three Spiritual Birds, forcing its kind to run alongside it.

In its view, life was all about movement. How could they just eat until they were full and then sleep, only to wake up and eat again? What kind of joke was that?

Kang looked at Chen Mo, a trace of disdain flashing in its eyes, as if to say, "You heartless scoundrel, so you still know how to come back?"

"What’s with that look? It’s not like I went out to have fun!" Chen Mo didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. After spending nearly four months together day and night, he had gradually developed a trace of mutual understanding with this unusually hyperactive little chicken.

Its sentience was exceptionally high, meaning there were hardly any barriers when communicating. Its only flaw was its appetite! One chicken ate enough for six! Yet, it hadn’t grown any larger than the others. All the Spirit Grain and Spirit Insects it consumed were completely burned off by its endless running!

"How about this? I’ll let you out for a stroll today."

Hearing the word "out," Kang’s crossed eyes instantly became even more crossed. It let out a loud, ringing crow to show its agreement.

"However, firstly, you are not allowed to run around aimlessly. Secondly, you cannot ruin the crops in the field. Promise me, and I’ll let you out."

"CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP! CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP!"

"Alright. Remember to look after your three little brethren! If even one goes missing, I’ll hold you responsible!"

"CHEEP... CHEEP CHEEP."

Chen Mo smiled, the gloom from yesterday completely swept away in this moment. It wasn’t until today that he somewhat understood people from his past life who kept pets. Perhaps this was another form of spiritual comfort.

He turned around and opened the door. Suddenly, an afterimage flashed past him. In the next moment, Kang disappeared from the cabin entirely.

"Holy crap!" Chen Mo instantly felt a wave of regret as he watched it sprint away like a madman.

Seeing its silhouette grow smaller and smaller before vanishing in the blink of an eye, he wondered if the chicken would ever come back. However, not long after this thought arose, Kang’s figure rapidly enlarged in his vision. A few breaths later, it dashed back to Chen Mo’s feet, gave him a light peck, and then sprinted off to disappear once again.

"This speed... It seems to be even faster than when I execute the Spirit Snake Body Technique, doesn’t it?"

Chen Mo speculated inwardly. This was the first time in four months he had seen Kang run at full speed. It seemed that keeping it locked up in the small wooden cabin all these days had indeed wronged it.

After a while, the other three clumsy Spiritual Birds poked their heads out and waddled unsteadily toward the outside. The world outside seemed like a brand-new frontier to them; they were filled with both curiosity and awe.

Unlike Kang’s frantic back-and-forth sprinting, these three little chickens wandered aimlessly. As they walked, they drifted further and further away.

Just as they were about to wander out of the boundaries of the Spirit Field and Chen Mo was preparing to herd them back, a lightning-fast afterimage swept by, viciously pecking the three little chickens on their behinds and driving them back. And so, whenever they were about to stray too far, Kang would materialize out of nowhere to herd them back onto the right path.

Chen Mo hadn’t expected it to possess the Talent of a sheepdog! Knowing this, he felt much more at ease. With Kang around, he wouldn’t have to worry about the other chickens getting lost even if they were allowed to free-range.

After watching them for a while, Chen Mo shifted his gaze and began inspecting the area around his small wooden cabin. He wondered whether he should build a chicken coop nearby. As he raised more and more Spiritual Birds in the future, he couldn’t just keep them all inside his own house, could he?

But then came the problem. Building a chicken coop meant he would need to set up an Array. Otherwise, when night fell, they could all be wiped out by evil entities in one fell swoop, which would be a massive loss!

"It seems building a chicken coop, a cowshed, and a pigpen should be put on the agenda!

"If I’m building a coop and a shed, shouldn’t this dilapidated little cabin of mine be expanded as well?

"If the house gets expanded, doesn’t the Defensive Array need an upgrade? Perhaps a reinforcement?"

His thoughts drifted further and further away, until finally...

"Spirit Stones! Spirit Stones! I need Spirit Stones!"

Chen Mo repeated the words "Spirit Stones" three times.

With the boost from his Talent, the speed at which he earned Spirit Stones actually wasn’t slow. But buying a Cultivation Technique required Spirit Stones, didn’t it? Buying a Storage Ring required Spirit Stones, right? Hiring someone to set up an Array required Spirit Stones? Cultivation required Spirit Stones, didn’t it? Even visiting the Fragrance Pavilion required Spirit Stones! He needed Spirit Stones for absolutely everything! A single penny could stump a hero, and in this world, the same went for a single Spirit Stone.

Chen Mo shook his head with a bitter smile. Never mind, he would think about it after harvesting this current batch of Spirit Rice.

The door to the small wooden cabin remained open. He took a small grain bag out of the drawer under his bed board and grabbed two taels of Tier Two Profound Soaring Spirit Rice from inside!

Over the past four months, Chen Mo had occasionally opened it to inspect the contents, but he could never bring himself to eat it. Now, having narrowly escaped a life-or-death situation, he decided to taste this Tier Two Profound Soaring Spirit Rice, which was ten times the price of his usual grain.

He carefully removed the husks and put them away, planning to give Kang a change of pace later.

Washing the rice, boiling the water, and cooking the meal. Not long after, a fragrant bowl of Spirit Rice was served.

Even while it was still cooking, the Spirit Rice emitted a mouth-watering and refreshing aroma. The Spiritual Qi dissipating from it alone was significantly stronger than that of the Spirit Yellow Rice. Chen Mo took a bite, chewed thoroughly, and swallowed.

Instantly, a warm current surged up within him, and his depleted Spiritual Qi was replenished in a flash. As he savored the delicacy, he observed the Transformation within his body. After swallowing the last mouthful of rice, he hurriedly sat cross-legged and began to circulate the Spiritual Qi throughout his system.

Finally, after nearly half an hour, that gentle burst of Spiritual Qi underwent complete Refinement.

Opening his status panel, he found that his experience points had not changed.

The effects of Tier Two Spirit Rice were very strong, but they hadn’t reached the level of Miracle Elixirs. However, any Cultivator who had eaten Profound Soaring Spirit Rice would likely find it hard to swallow Tier One Spirit Yellow Rice ever again!

Since it was still early, Chen Mo herded Kang and the others back into the cabin. Their outdoor time was over, and he couldn’t let them become too wild.

After closing the door, Chen Mo walked into his Spirit Field. The originally lush Green rice field was now interspersed with patches of golden yellow. Viewed from the outside, these fifteen acres of land were still growing, but from the inside, it was evident that the harvest would arrive in just over a month!

He walked through the rice paddies and sat cross-legged on a futon to meditate and undergo Cultivation. With his only Low Grade Spirit Stone clutched in his hand, he assumed the posture of Five Hearts Facing the Origin.

Time flowed by. Over an hour later, it was midday.

Chen Mo suddenly opened his eyes, furrowing his brow, and immediately stood up to walk briskly.

Outside the Spirit Field, He Zhiping and Miao Chen were sneaking suspiciously toward his land!
