Longevity through Farming, Breeding and Cultivating

Chapter 70: 6000 Jin!

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: 6000 Jin!

The slaughter and wailing between the Yellow Peak and Purple Cloud Peak did not disturb the cultivators toiling in the distant fields.

It was the height of summer.

Over there, a group of Spirit Plant Cultivators continued to bend over their work, faces to the yellow earth and backs to the blazing sky. At the foot of Purple Cloud Peak, the scene was lush and green. Having survived a plague of insects, the land had once again burst with new life. They meticulously tended to the land they relied on for survival, even more so than in previous years. In the past, they wouldn’t have cared about a single weed or a small patch of pests, but this year, they constantly kept watch, eradicating them completely!

The Spirit Plant Cultivators were busy, their figures a constant presence in the fields.

One day, Chen Mo’s door was wide open.

The four little chicks usually inside were nowhere to be seen. Walking further in along the long field ridge, amidst the scent of rice carried by the wind within the Memory Array, it was a completely different scene!

Chen Mo held a specially made sickle in one hand and grasped a handful of rice stalks in the other. With a forceful backward slice, he cut them down and neatly stacked them on the ridge behind him. At his feet, Kang and the other three little chicks were frantically pecking at the fallen ears of rice on the ground. This time, they had obtained Chen Mo’s permission; otherwise, there was no way they would have been allowed to take advantage of such a massive windfall!

Before long, three of the Spiritual Birds were full and wandering aimlessly, while only Kang remained diligently trailing behind Chen Mo. Every time Chen Mo cut a handful, it would bob its head like a pestle pounding rice, pecking wildly.

While it was eating, a powerful flying kick launched it into the air. However, Kang performed a flawless Thomas flare in mid-air and landed steadily on the ground. It had long grown accustomed to such unexpected attacks.

At first, Kang would stand in place, giving the perpetrator a resentful glare.

But now?

It wouldn’t let anything delay its feast on the Spirit Rice! Having only ever eaten husks in the past, when had it ever tasted something so delicious? And it was an all-you-can-eat buffet! How could it not eat until it dropped?

"Eat, eat, eat! You’re still eating!"

Seeing Kang with its butt facing him, continuing to peck at the fallen Spirit Rice, Chen Mo couldn’t help but get angry. In previous years, it would have taken a great deal of effort to pick up all these scattered grains from the fields. This year, flush with wealth, he naturally looked down on these ten or twenty catties of rice, so he let the four chicks enter the Memory Array to enjoy a buffet.

However, even so, he had underestimated Kang’s appetite! The other three chicks combined had eaten at most a catty or two, but now, Kang alone had probably consumed three or four catties! The main issue was that it showed absolutely no sign of stopping.

"I think you should stop being a chicken and be a pig instead!" Chen Mo scolded in annoyance, casually wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead with his sleeve.

On the other side, Kang ignored him completely, running around and eating everywhere as if it had entered paradise.

After a full day’s effort, the fifteen acres of Spirit Fields were finally harvested. A massive amount of Spirit Rice was piled up within the Memory Array. By this time, Kang was finally full and began sprinting around to digest its food.

Chen Mo straightened up and stretched his back. Standing in place, he circulated his Qi Cultivation Technique, which finally alleviated much of the soreness in his body. Even though he had been farming for so many years, every harvest still consumed a vast amount of effort and energy. Right now, fifteen acres of Spirit Fields was manageable; as a Cultivator, he could finish the work in a single day.

But what about the future?

Fifty acres, a hundred acres, or even a thousand acres?

Chen Mo’s positioning of himself was very clear: he was just someone who farmed and raised chickens. However, his goals went far beyond his current modest plot of land. He wanted to grow more and more grain, raise more and more chickens... But a single person’s energy was ultimately limited.

He wondered, "Should I cultivate a clone-type Magic? Or learn a Mechanical Technique?"

Taking a moment to rest, Chen Mo engaged in these aimless daydreams. Of course, all of this was still a distant future for him. Glancing over, he saw that Kang had digested its meal and was actually starting to eat again. He delivered a flying kick. Following that, the little chick flapped its wings and landed squarely in front of the wooden cabin’s door.

"You’re still eating!"

Chen Mo slowly walked out as well. Kang turned its head to look at him, then scurried into the cabin like a wisp of smoke. Behind it, the other three little chicks wobbled their way back.

Over the second and third days, Chen Mo spent his time threshing the harvested Spirit Yellow Rice from the stalks, using his Flaming Palm to bake out the moisture, and finally packing it into bags one by one. The entire harvesting process took a full three days!

On the fourth day.

He set fire to the stalks in the fields, turning them into plant ash before scattering them back into the soil. He spent another busy day plowing and watering the land.

On the fifth day.

The five catties of Spirit Yellow Rice seeds that had been prepared in advance were sown into the earth, marking the beginning of another round of planting!

"Phew!"

Having finally finished the field work, Chen Mo had the time to deal with the harvested Spirit Rice. Fifteen acres of Spirit Fields, yielding 400 catties per acre! A total harvest of 6,000 catties!

In more visual terms, it meant thirty neatly stacked, bulging grain sacks, with each sack containing 200 catties. Such a massive number was something no Spirit Plant Cultivator in the Ancient Dust Marketplace would dare to imagine! Six thousand catties—and a tax-free 6,000 catties at that!

Once sold, it would amount to six hundred taels of Spiritual Sand, enough for them to live on for ten or twenty years.

However, for Chen Mo—who had caught a glimpse of the true nature of the Cultivation Realm and whose ambitions lay elsewhere—6,000 catties was merely equivalent to six Low Grade Spirit Stones. Even a single Qi Cultivation Realm technique from the Cyan Yang Sect, such as the Twelve Techniques, cost five Low Grade Spirit Stones! How could such a paltry amount of Spirit Stones be enough?

Looking at the thirty full bags of grain, Chen Mo found himself in a dilemma! Indeed, his small handcart could hold a maximum of ten bags at a time; any more, and they simply wouldn’t fit.

Who should he sell this grain to?

How should he sell it?

It was the middle of summer—where did all this Spirit Rice even come from?

How could he explain it?

Actually, Chen Mo could also consider storing this grain away for the time being, then taking it to the Marketplace at the end of the year and splitting it among several buyers. But by then, it wouldn’t be thirty bags; it would be a full forty or fifty bags! That would likely be even harder to handle.

"Harvesting too much grain is also a hassle!" Chen Mo sighed.

After turning it over in his mind, Chen Mo ultimately thought of the Yi Er San Grain Station, and he thought of Song Yunxi! He made an empty-handed trip to the Ancient Dust Marketplace. Around noon, Mei Hua accompanied him back to the Spirit Fields, bringing along a Storage Ring.

When the grain station assistant saw the cabin packed to the brim with what had to be five or six thousand catties of Spirit Rice, he was dumbfounded.

"Did... did you grow all of this..." Mei Hua’s eyes widened, staring at Chen Mo in sheer disbelief. He even started to stutter as he spoke.

"Shh!" Chen Mo made a silencing gesture.

Mei Hua’s expression was conflicted, but he still followed the instructions, storing the thirty bags of grain into the Storage Ring. On the way here, he had already asked about it. It wasn’t even the autumn harvest yet; where did the grain come from?

But Chen Mo had maintained a mysterious demeanor, always brushing him off with a phrase: "Wait until we get there. We’ll talk when we get there!"

If he wants to be evasive, so be it.

Originally, Mei Hua thought it would just be a few hundred catties of Spirit Rice. Even with a wild imagination, he couldn’t have comprehended that it was five or six thousand catties!
