My Midlife Comeback System Comes 16 Years Early

Chapter 122 - 21: A Grain of Sand Slipping Through the Fingers Can Change Someone’s Life

Chapter 122: Chapter 21: A Grain of Sand Slipping Through the Fingers Can Change Someone’s Life

The thin wooden door didn’t offer much in the way of soundproofing. Out in the lounge, Yiyi fidgeted on the sofa, taking a vicious bite out of her apple. "That little slut. She acted so pure and innocent, insisting she didn’t have any experience, yet she picked it up so fast. I bet she’s worked in a place like this before!"

She hadn’t been able to teach Xiaoyan anything too detailed in such a short amount of time. Still, Yiyi hadn’t dared to disobey her wealthy patron’s orders, so she had offered some general guidance instead. For instance, she had explained the kind of effect Xiaoyan needed to achieve, how to weave teasing and flirtatious interactions into her dancing or other routines, and, ultimately, what the client actually wanted to see.

To her shock, Xiaoyan’s aptitude for the work was nothing short of miraculous. She picked up on concepts instantly, mastered them after a single demonstration, and seemed tailor-made for the profession. Yiyi was dying of jealousy. She had finally managed to attract a high-rolling patron, only to find out he wasn’t there for her. He had merely used her as a tool, leaving her stuck outside to listen to the muffled sounds through the door. "At least invite me in!" she grumbled.

Much later, Zhang Yan stepped out of the room alone.

Yiyi immediately stood up. "Are you finished? Should I go clock out for her?"

"No need. Your coaching was quite effective tonight. You can get off work early. I’ll cover your time until the end of your shift."

"Thank you so much, Your Majesty. But I really miss you. When will Your Majesty cure my lovesickness?"

Looking into Yiyi’s dewy, expectant eyes, Zhang Yan knew exactly what she wanted. He hadn’t been entirely opposed to the idea of a threesome earlier, but he had ultimately decided against it. He wanted to keep Xiaoyan separate from the other women here. They had no emotional connection with each other, and forcing them into a shared bed would just be awkward, even if they reluctantly agreed.

"That depends on your performance. Help me clean up first."

Zhang Yan casually picked a piece of fruit from the platter and took a bite. After experiencing high society at the recent banquet, he had developed a much more intuitive standard for evaluating so-called "beauties." After all, if there was one demographic that hoarded the highest quantity and quality of attractive women, it was definitely the wealthy second-generation heirs. Compared to the female companions of those heirs, Yiyi’s looks, aura, and sense of style were only slightly inferior. She wasn’t far behind them at all.

And that was in person. Online, digital filters and makeup could easily bridge that gap. Furthermore, when it came to pleasing men, playing hard to get, and maintaining a flirtatious dynamic, Yiyi was on par with—if not better than—any of those socialites. Overall, she had an excellent foundation. She had the potential for a much brighter future, as long as she met the right benefactor.

The spa technician industry might pay well, but it was a shady business. It came with societal disdain and no small amount of risk. In contrast, there was another profession that was essentially the same in nature but offered vastly superior income, social standing, and safety. It would suit her perfectly.

"Yiyi, have you ever thought about becoming an internet celebrity?"

"MM-HMM?" she mumbled eagerly, nodding her head.

The vast majority of girls harbored dreams of stardom from a young age. Who didn’t want to bask in the spotlight? Who didn’t want to shine brightly for all to see? But reality was cruel. After learning some basic dance moves, graduating from a mediocre school, and hitting wall after wall in the real world, Yiyi had learned just how harsh life could be. She knew her dreams of stardom were completely hopeless.

She had tried live-streaming afterward, willing to settle for becoming an influencer or a streamer. She had worked incredibly hard, broadcasting for over a dozen hours every day, but she got barely any traffic. To make matters worse, her direct messages were constantly flooded with vile, obscene comments. The digital beauty filters on those platforms leveled the playing field, entirely erasing her slight natural advantage in looks. She had seen absolutely zero hope of going viral.

The internet was a game of chance; being pretty and a good conversationalist didn’t guarantee fame. And Yiyi clearly lacked that kind of luck. It was only after those failures crushed her spirit that Huo Shaoqi had been able to persuade her so easily. With just a few words, she had signed away four years of her life and dove headfirst into an industry she had once deeply despised.

So, when Zhang Yan asked if she wanted to be an internet celebrity today, her answer was a resounding yes! With the immense wealth Zhang Yan had already displayed, even a single grain of sand slipping through his fingers would be enough to set her up for life! With the right traffic support, she was confident she could easily outshine those other vapid streamers! Someday, she really might make it big! Besides, being an influencer or streamer was a much more respectable profession to tell her family about than working as a spa technician.

As the rhythmic sounds echoed between them, Zhang Yan watched Yiyi work vigorously, fully sensing the desperate eagerness in her heart.

"I’ll probably set up an entertainment company to play around with in a while. When that happens, I’ll have a chat with Boss Huo and see if I can buy out your contract."

"MM-HMM! FANK YOU, YOR MAJESHY~"

Although Zhang Yan didn’t currently own a single share of an entertainment company, that didn’t stop him from dangling the carrot in front of her.
