The Godslaying Fortress transformed into a streak of lightning, hurtling into the star system at astonishing speed.
The moment it entered the star system, it came to an abrupt halt, not advancing further.
Lin Moyu stepped out of the Godslaying Fortress and quietly sensed the condition of the star system.
Every star system possessed its own unique characteristics, especially uninhabited star systems, whose individual traits were far more pronounced.
Inhabited star systems generally shared many similarities, differing mostly in resource abundance and location.
Uninhabited star systems, however, each told a different story.
Take the Vermilion Bird Uninhabited Star System No. 000066, where Lin Moyu now stood. Long ago, it might have been a thriving, prosperous inhabited star system.
For some unknown reason, it had eventually declined into its current state.
"The temperature is extremely high."
"We're still far from the star. It shouldn't be this hot."
"So there really is something wrong with the star."
From this distance, the star looked like nothing more than a fist-sized ball of fire, revealing little of its condition.
Only by approaching it could anything be observed.
Lin Moyu returned to the Godslaying Fortress and piloted it toward the star.
Compared to the Vermilion Bird Uninhabited Star System No. 000128, this star system was in far better condition. At least its planets remained intact.
Massive planets drifted through space, revolving endlessly around the star.
Other than the complete absence of life, everything appeared normal.
Just as Lin Moyu approached the star, a shadow flashed across his vision.
A monster lunged at him with blinding speed, slamming heavily into the Godslaying Fortress.
The tremendous impact brought the fortress to an immediate stop.
Lin Moyu reacted instantly.
With a single thought, a bolt of Godslaying Lightning erupted from the fortress.
Although the Godslaying Fortress had yet to fully recover, injuring a True God posed no difficulty.
Anyone below the 6th tier Transcendent God realm would be crippled or killed outright by a direct hit.
The charging monster was directly in front of him.
The Godslaying Lightning struck it head-on.
Flames instantly burst from its body.
Blue fire flickered amid the blazing inferno, a sign of incredibly high temperatures.
The monster let out a frenzied roar, its face twisted with pain.
Even so, it refused to retreat, continuing its relentless assault on the fortress.
The creature wielded the law of fire, and every blow erupted into dazzling showers of flames.
Yet the Godslaying Fortress was unimaginably sturdy.
No matter how fiercely it attacked, the fortress remained completely unscathed.
After enduring several blasts from the fortress, the monster finally let out an unwilling death cry and collapsed.
Judging from the battle, Lin Moyu estimated its combat strength to be around the 4th tier Transcendent God realm.
Its defenses, however, were considerably stronger, roughly equivalent to the 6th tier Transcendent God realm.
Even so, it had taken only three attacks from the Godslaying Fortress to bring it down.
The creature measured roughly two hundred meters in length—not especially large by the standards of the starry sky.
The information Lin Moyu had reviewed contained no records about this particular star system.
He had no idea whether these monsters were native to the star system or had come from elsewhere.
Nor could he determine whether they were responsible for the star's abnormal condition.
As he continued toward the star, he noticed numerous black spots scattered across its blazing surface.
"Could these black spots be the source of the anomaly?"
As he drew closer, Lin Moyu finally saw things clearly.
The black spots were the same monsters that had attacked him moments earlier.
The instant they sensed his presence, they charged toward him in a frenzy.
With only tens of thousands of kilometers remaining between himself and the star, Lin Moyu simply stored away the Godslaying Fortress.
He cast Detection.
[Fire-Devouring Beast]
[Realm: Transcendent]
[Trait: naturally drawn to flames; possesses extraordinary resistance to the law of fire; completely immune to extreme heat; capable of devouring star flames to strengthen itself.]
After reading the information, Lin Moyu pointed a finger.
The searing temperature around him plummeted instantly.
Above him, the Undeath World descended, manifesting countless phantom figures.
Then an enormous eye, spanning more than a hundred thousand meters, slowly opened.
Silver flames burned within the eye, intertwined with gray and white qi.
Empowered by the law, Undead Gaze's destructive force increased dramatically.
With a single glance, the charging Fire-Devouring Beasts cried out in agony.
Lin Moyu pointed again.
Fused law art: Time Curse!
The triple curse, amplified by the law of time, erupted instantly.
Although the Fire-Devouring Beasts possessed formidable defenses, their soul strength was only average.
Under the combined assault of Undead Gaze and Time Curse, they were annihilated in an instant.
As though he had merely dealt with a minor inconvenience, Lin Moyu continued flying toward the star alone.
Only after he had left did the figure secretly following him reveal himself.
Staring at the spot where the Fire-Devouring Beasts had perished, he murmured, "What kind of law was that? I've never seen anything like it."
After a moment's thought, he collected two of the beasts' corpses.
As Lin Moyu drew closer, he sensed that the flames on the star's surface were pulsing violently.
Each pulse released an immense wave of heat into space.
The star had become frighteningly unstable, as though it might explode at any moment.
When he was only a thousand kilometers away, Lin Moyu encountered the Fire-Devouring Beasts once again.
This time, however, their numbers were vastly greater.
At least a hundred thousand of them swarmed around the star, plunging deep into its interior.
Their bodies writhed frantically as they burrowed through the flames, as though desperately searching for something.
Lin Moyu noticed they paid no attention to his arrival, unlike the beasts he had encountered earlier.
Every one of them was completely consumed by whatever lay beneath the surface, digging with near-maniacal obsession.
As they continued their work, the entire star rumbled incessantly.
Strange surges of heat erupted from within, driving the temperature of the entire star system even higher.
"What could possibly be drawing them in?"
Lin Moyu believed he had already completed the first task—to observe the star from a distance of one thousand kilometers.
The second task was to determine the cause of the star's abnormal activity.
At first glance, the answer seemed obvious.
The Fire-Devouring Beasts were almost certainly responsible.
But why were they doing this? That remained a mystery.
Lin Moyu moved closer until he stood directly before the star.
The churning sea of flames was now within arm's reach.
Thump!
The instant his hand brushed the fire, a loud, distinct heartbeat echoed in his ears.
A heartbeat? How could there be a heartbeat inside a star?
For a moment, he wondered if he had imagined it.
But when he reached out and touched the flames again, the heartbeat rang out once more, unmistakably clear.
He slowly extended his hand deeper into the flames.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
The heartbeat was steady, powerful, and rhythmic.
Then, a thought suddenly surfaced in his mind.
"Go inside. Claim it."
At that exact moment, the Nine-Colored Dragon Soul Crystal released a resounding roar, instantly shattering the intrusive thought.
A chill ran down Lin Moyu's spine.
Just moments ago, he had genuinely wanted to rush into the star without a second thought.
It was as though he had been bewitched.
Only then did he understand why the Fire-Devouring Beasts were digging into the star with such frenzied determination.
They, too, had been lured by the heartbeat.
At last, Lin Moyu understood what was happening.
