The Sun and Moon had cycled seven or eight times over the Boundary Land.
A glance around revealed Snake-men, Spidermen, and Rat-men scattered chaotically across the land. Some were digging in the grass with their bare hands for insects and earthworms to fill their bellies, while others unearthed edible plant roots.
They had been walking for seven or eight days. The food they carried had long been depleted, forcing them to live off the land.
Fortunately, while they were hungry, they weren’t starving, so the tragedy of cannibalism had not yet occurred. However, some of the stronger Divine Servants had already cast their gazes upon the children weeping over their dying mothers.
During the long escape, people would inevitably fall for various reasons, destined to find their eternal rest in this Wilderness.
Watched by pairs of eyes green with envy and hunger, Levi and the Kemisi sat in a circle, gnawing on flatbread made from wheat.
Since they were heading to an unknown New World, the Lord had directly deposited Ten Thousand Gold Coins into the system store, so he didn’t need to worry about food.
Even this simplest of dry rations was enough to make the fleeing members of the Divine Servant Clan stare with desperate longing. But no one dared try to snatch it—because a group of people lay wailing pitifully on the ground around that Cat-man.
These people served as the simplest and most effective deterrent.
BOOM!
The group had barely finished their food when the earth began to tremble again.
Even a three-year-old child knew what this meant: the Divine Abominations were catching up.
As if it had been rehearsed, everyone stopped what they were doing, rose in unison, and started heading north.
From initial panic to their current numbness, they had spent the last seven or eight days just like this.
On the distant horizon, several towering figures were faintly visible. After a few brief glances, Levi, still carrying Fatir, rejoined the stream of people and pressed on.
He finally understood the source of his nagging feeling of absurdity. ‘This all feels like a pre-planned script!’
These Divine Abominations were hunting the Divine Servants, yet despite being able to catch up at any moment, they deliberately lagged behind, slaughtering only the stragglers from the Divine Servant Clan.
“Levi, don’t those Divine Abominations look familiar?” During the long, silent march, Fatir was the first to break under the oppressive atmosphere. Her pale, slender arms wrapped around Levi’s neck as she whispered, her breath warm against his skin.
“If I’m not mistaken, the Armor they’re wearing bears the symbol of the Holy Light Church.” Holding the soft, warm woman in his arms, Levi found himself inexplicably wishing this journey could last forever.
“That’s right. The Armor they’re wearing was blessed by the Goddess,” Fatir said calmly. “But I can’t sense a trace of Holy Light from it. Instead, I feel an energy so vast it has condensed into a solid mass.”
As a Caster, her Spiritual Power was already strong enough to perceive things beyond normal sight, allowing her to notice what ordinary people could not.
“Isn’t this a Magicless World?” Levi asked curiously.
“It is indeed a Magicless World, but this energy doesn’t fall within the domain of the Elements,” Fatir said, shaking her head.
It was like Combat Qi, a discipline that emerged with the Elemental Tides. It might not seem impressive when Magic Power is abundant, but it reveals its unique advantages when Magic Power is scarce.
This type of energy, generated from within the body, isn’t heavily influenced by the Magic Tide.
For instance, even the Holy Light within a Holy Knight who cultivates the 「Holy Word Secret Manual」 is unaffected by low-magic environments. The only reason Levi couldn’t use his Holy Light here was that this was a Trial World, and the Goddess had specifically restricted him.
When it came to knowledge about Magic, the Lord got a massive headache. After all, the introductory books on what Magic even was were as thick as his palm.
That’s why every Mage, while not necessarily powerful, was certainly knowledgeable. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to handle Magic at all.
“What if we can’t complete the trial, can’t go back, and have to live out our days and die alone here?” Levi asked suddenly.
‘He still had no idea what this so-called “trial” even was.’
“Levi, if even you can’t complete the trial, then no one can,” Fatir said. “Perhaps your faith isn’t as steadfast as that of past Holy Knights, but you are the strongest person I’ve ever seen enter a Trial World. The merciful Goddess only cares about your actions, and as it happens, your kindness is nearly unparalleled.”
“Nonsense!” the Lord lied with a straight face. “I am obviously the Goddess’s most devout follower! My faith is harder than the very stone of Andira Mountain!”
He said it with absolute conviction.
For a moment, if not for the slight smirk playing on his lips, Fatir might have actually believed him.
Annoyed by his casual blasphemy, Fatir reached out and pinched Levi’s side. Levi didn’t even flinch, letting her pinch him without the slightest reaction.
“Thanks, but I’m not itchy.”
Feeling as if she’d just pinched a bar of Fine Steel, Fatir nonchalantly tucked her now-aching hand into the Lord’s collar, saying calmly, “I really should have just stabbed you with a knife!”
“You’d be torturing the knife,” Levi said, completely unfazed. With his current physique, an ordinary blade against him would be like an egg hitting a stone.
“The Saintess I remember wasn’t such a brute.”
Fatir tried to make him suffer with her cold palm, but it was a futile effort. His body was as hot as the sun, and her hand was warmed through in moments.
She shifted her gaze. The sun’s afterglow fell across his profile, making him look brilliant and dazzling.
