Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Ruins
They entered the cave and came to a long, narrow rock passage.
The rocks all around were bizarrely shaped, like menacing monsters baring their fangs and claws. If you didn’t look closely, you might mistake them for Death Filth Spirits.
Hopka led the team cautiously along the passage, soon reaching its end.
The moment they stepped out of the passage, their view suddenly opened up.
Long Ming and the others had arrived in a lost, ancient, underground city.
Here stood rows of dilapidated, strangely styled structures built from dark red rock. Toppled all around them were vaguely humanoid stone statues.
A gray mist permeated the entire silent, subterranean ruin.
"What the hell is this place?"
Chen Hong asked, turning his head to look at the ruins before them.
"No idea. I’ve never seen architecture in this style before. It looks like the ruins of an ancient civilization."
Woperi was also completely bewildered.
Long Ming, however, frowned deeply. For some reason, he felt his heart begin to pound violently.
"Never mind what this place is. The signal’s source is inside these ruins. Let’s move in and find Dr. Anus, quickly."
Hopka had noticed the distress signal growing stronger.
"Understood!"
Woperi and the others quickly nodded in acknowledgment.
"Let’s go!"
Hopka piloted the Jailbreaker, taking the lead as they headed inside.
A gray mist drifted along their path, and visibility was extremely low, blurring everything they looked at.
Hopka and his team were extremely cautious.
But the deeper they went, the more Long Ming felt that something was wrong.
He whipped his head to the right. A black figure seemed to flash by in the gray mist, but when he looked closely, there was nothing there.
"What is it? Did you spot a Death Filth Spirit?"
Seeing Long Ming’s strange movement, Hopka asked, his nerves tensing.
"I’m not sure, but there’s a high probability."
Long Ming replied, scanning his surroundings.
Although he saw nothing but the dilapidated ancient buildings around them, he couldn’t shake the feeling that countless pairs of eyes were staring at him.
Hopka took a deep breath and instructed the group.
"Everyone, be careful. We’ll keep moving forward. The signal source isn’t far ahead."
"Right!"
Woperi and the others nodded, their expressions grave.
The five of them cautiously advanced, searching for the signal’s source.
「A few moments later.」
Just as Hopka led Long Ming and the others to an ancient structure with only three stone walls remaining, the signal vanished.
"Dammit, the signal’s gone."
Hopka looked around, annoyed.
"Colonel, are you sure the signal was coming from here? There’s nothing around!"
Woperi asked, turning his head to survey the area.
"That’s right. It was right around here."
Hopka replied with certainty.
Just then, the signal reappeared and began moving toward Hopka and his team.
"The signal’s back, and it’s moving toward us! They must have spotted us."
Hopka said excitedly.
Long Ming and the others looked around, but they still couldn’t see anyone.
"It’s getting closer! It’s almost here!"
Hopka kept telling the group.
Hearing this, Woperi and the others grew more excited and expectant.
Suddenly, a figure materialized out of thin air in front of Long Ming’s group.
Their hearts skipped a beat as they all stared at the figure that had appeared.
A person whose face was obscured, wearing special, phantom-blue mechanical armor and holding a silver metal case, stood before them.
"It’s me!"
A weak but excited voice rang out.
"Dr. Anus!"
Hopka exclaimed in pleasant surprise.
"Yes, I’m Dr. Anus. Are you here to rescue us?"
Dr. Anus asked hastily.
"That’s right. I’m Colonel Hopka. We were sent specifically to rescue you."
"That’s wonderful."
"But Dr. Anus, how did you escape those monsters?"
"This suit of mech armor I’m wearing is special. It has excellent stealth capabilities. I was lucky enough to escape thanks to this gear."
"I see. By the way, is the classified case still with you?"
Hopka quickly asked Dr. Anus.
"Yes, the classified case is right here!"
Dr. Anus said, holding up the classified case in his hand.
"Excellent!"
Seeing that the classified case was safe, Hopka let out a long sigh of relief.
"Since we’ve rescued the doctor and secured the case, let’s get out of here!"
Hearing this, Long Ming spoke up immediately.
Ever since entering these ruins, he had felt completely on edge. He had a visceral sense of unease, and a bad premonition had been nagging at him the entire time.
"No, we can’t leave yet!"
Dr. Anus reacted vehemently.
"Why not?"
Long Ming asked, gazing at Dr. Anus with a grave expression.
"Captain Dimulu and many others are still alive! They’ve been locked in the temple to be used as sacrifices. We have to save them, quickly!"
Dr. Anus said, frantic with anxiety.
"They’re still alive?"
Hopka’s expression lit up with joy when he heard Anus’s words.
"I think it’s too risky. We should leave first and reconsider the rescue after careful planning."
Long Ming objected in a low voice.
He felt this place was extremely dangerous, and his instincts screamed at him to leave.
Long Ming didn’t know why he had this feeling. ’Maybe it’s because of my symbiosis with Hilic. It’s like I’ve inherited some of a monster’s perception and intuition.’
Hopka and the others were surprised to see Long Ming advocate for a retreat.
"How can you be so cowardly? Those are our comrades! They’re right here! How can you just leave them to die?"
Dr. Anus rebuked him furiously upon hearing he wanted to retreat.
Long Ming just stared at Dr. Anus, his brows tightly knitted.
"Stop arguing. Red Ghost just thinks it’s too dangerous here and wants to get you out safely first!"
Hopka spoke up to placate Dr. Anus.
"So are you going to save them or not? If we wait any longer, it’ll be too late."
"Of course we’re going to save them. The Second Legion doesn’t have a habit of abandoning its comrades. Since Dimulu and the others are still alive, we will naturally save them at all costs."
"Good. Then let’s hurry up and rescue them!"
Dr. Anus urged Hopka.
"Alright. Doctor, why don’t you hand the classified case over to me first?"
Hopka said to Dr. Anus.
Dr. Anus hesitated at Hopka’s words, but in the end, he still handed over the classified case.
"Alright. Just don’t lose it."
"Don’t worry. Let’s go!"
Hopka then stowed the classified case in his safe compartment.
"This way!"
Dr. Anus immediately pointed the way for Hopka and the others.
Long Ming followed silently from the back.
As they continued forward, the gray mist around them grew thicker.
"Stay close. The fog here is thick!"
Hopka reminded them as he pushed forward.
"Yes, sir!"
Woperi and the others replied in unison.
