Chapter 484: Chapter 484: Results
"Huh?"
Ah Er raised a paw, pointed at himself, and glanced at Bai Mo.
Bai Mo nodded solemnly.
"I once promised you I’d find a Divine Technique for you. Now, I have."
Realization dawned on Ah Er, and he was overjoyed.
Making sure the Pill in his belly was still faintly warm and active, he aimed the tips of his two claws at the large, blue-green boulder.
Without a second thought, he twisted his body and rammed his head into it.
THUD!
His stout body stirred a gust of wind. With the sound, his head plunged into the stone, leaving the back half of his body sticking out, his two short legs kicking futilely.
Bai Mo raised an eyebrow, walked over, supported the back half of Ah Er’s body, and pushed him forcefully into the rock.
SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!
As if the pushing hurt, Ah Er’s two paws emerged from the stone, frantically slapping its surface.
"Looks like it’s not working."
Bai Mo sighed and pulled his hands back, watching Ah Er, who was still trying his best to burrow into the rock.
The little guy was stuck right at his belly, as if he were too fat to get through.
But that wasn’t actually the case.
Bai Mo tugged on Ah Er’s short tail. Taking the hint, Ah Er quickly pulled his head out of the stone.
Ah Er scratched his head and looked at Bai Mo.
’On Divine Dao Mountain, when he saw Bai Mo use the mountain-penetrating Divine Technique, it didn’t look like this at all.’
Bai Mo sighed. "You’ve grasped some of the true meaning, but you’re still lacking."
"Let’s try again."
Ah Er was a little disappointed, but the experience of passing through solid rock was still quite novel to him.
They tried again and again, spending a good deal of time before he accompanied Bai Mo back to Mi Mountain.
"The method is probably correct," Bai Mo murmured to himself.
"But not even ten percent of the Divine Technique’s effect was unleashed. It must be due to the Pill’s quality."
"A proper Divine Technique... it’s truly unlikely that it could be fully imprinted using simple materials..."
Every detail of the refinement process, from material selection to technique, surfaced in his mind.
After a moment of contemplation, Bai Mo had a rough idea of the reason.
’The materials are limited. I should be able to intervene with my Divine Thought to promote the formation of the Divine Technique’s patterns within the Outer Pill.’
’But there are so many interconnected factors: balancing the medicinal power, the Pill’s density, the heat, the imprinting of the Divine Technique within the Pill...’
’Any slight error, and the result is a failed Pill.’
Beside him, Ah Er, who was completely lost in the conversation, took out some medicinal powder from his chest and dabbed it on his head.
A large lump had formed on his head from ramming into the rock earlier.
This Outer Pill was extremely unstable.
Whether or not he could use the Divine Technique’s power was all up to luck.
This was the conclusion he and Bai Mo had reached after he’d bumped his head.
’In that case, I can’t show it off outside. At most, I can just play with it in secret,’ Ah Er thought to himself.
...
Back on Mi Mountain, just as Bai Mo finished recording his findings, another visitor arrived.
It was Ah Er, rubbing his head, who opened the door for the guest.
The visitor had a square, honest face, looking like a very upright and sincere young man.
Just as he was about to greet Bai Mo, his gaze swept over and immediately noticed the large lump on Ah Er’s head.
"Oh!"
"Has this little fella gotten hurt? Such a fine Spirit Beast, it must have some kind of special bloodline. Junior Brother, you should keep a closer eye on him, shouldn’t you?"
"Here, top-grade beast medicine, take it..."
Bai Mo recognized the man’s attire as that of a disciple from Beast Taming Peak.
’Now that’s a rare sight.’
Beast Taming Peak didn’t have its own mountain in the inner sect, mainly because the disciples of this lineage had limited talent.
The few who got lucky and raised powerful Spirit Beasts or broke through to a higher realm still failed to make any waves in the inner sect.
As a result, most of them simply registered under a random mountain according to their needs.
But in reality, they all operated independently.
The man was extremely enthusiastic, making Ah Er a little uncomfortable.
He thought for a moment and decided not to take the man’s medicine. After all, the lump on his head was already much better, and if he rubbed it a little more, the swelling would probably go down.
Bai Mo welcomed the man inside.
"Ever since he started following me, this fella has never used any proper beast medicine. He gets hurt every other day; it’s not as bad as you think, Senior Brother."
"Just let him be."
Chen Qing laughed and didn’t insist. He put the medicine pouch away and led a non-human, over ten feet tall, through the door.
The non-human wore only a beast hide around its waist, its tusks half-exposed, but was otherwise no different from a normal person.
"I’ve never been here before. What’s the procedure for putting this big guy in the Black Jail?"
Bai Mo led him along, asking casually:
"Do you have a command token from the Foreign Affairs Hall?"
"Right here."
After reading the token, Bai Mo learned the non-human’s origin and the name of this disciple from Beast Taming Peak.
"An Yiman?"
Bai Mo had heard of this race before.
"I recall they were a rather prosperous race in the early days, but they offended too many people and were besieged and driven out. They’re rarely seen now."
"Where did you catch this fellow, Senior Brother?"
Chen Qing said, "At the foot of Tiger-slaying Mountain."
"That area was already suffering from disasters and famine this year. With this guy showing up, the people there are suffering even more."
"So someone offered a high price to hire me to capture him."
CLANG!
The Yiman was tall, and he grew even more restless after entering the Black Jail, bumping into things left and right and making a huge racket.
All the prisoners in the jail turned to look.
Bai Mo’s expression didn’t change. With a slight shift in his thoughts, a mountain-like pressure bore down.
The bones in the Yiman’s shoulders made cracking sounds from the pressure. His tall body staggered, and he nearly fell.
Chen Qing dragged him forcibly deeper into the jail.
Bai Mo didn’t sense any killing intent from the Yiman, so he asked:
"What crime did he commit over there?"
Chen Qing said, "This fellow appeared near Tiger-slaying Mountain at some unknown time. I heard there used to be a Yiman tribe there."
"He has a huge appetite and eats anything, but he especially loves bloody food."
"Especially after the disaster and famine struck, many people fell victim to him, causing widespread panic."
’So that was the story.’
Bai Mo found an empty, spacious cell and, with Chen Qing, managed to get the Yiman inside.
"Last winter’s bitter cold and heavy snow were the worst in recent years."
"I didn’t expect there to still be disasters now..." Bai Mo lamented.
Chen Qing shook his head, watching as Bai Mo wrapped the cell door with iron chains.
"It’s not like that. I’m afraid this time it’s man-made. Tiger-eating Mountain is supposed to be a place blessed by nature; a famine shouldn’t have happened there."
"Last year’s harsh winter didn’t have much of an effect on the locals, but when spring came this year, plagues started appearing everywhere."
"For some reason, the grain also grew moldy. Those who ate it would vomit and catch the plague, and so the disaster grew worse and worse..."
’For something like this, the sect will probably have to send disciples over.’
However, that wasn’t their concern, but the responsibility of the Foreign Affairs Hall.
Chen Qing then brought up another reason for his visit to Mi Mountain.
"I heard that you cured Zhang Sheng’s mother, Junior Brother—that beautiful roe deer?"
Bai Mo didn’t expect him to know about this. After a moment of surprise, he replied:
"I wouldn’t say cured. I’m just barely keeping her alive."
Chen Qing chuckled.
"That roe deer’s congenital deficiency is no small illness."
"Zhang Sheng once came to our Beast Taming Peak for help, but unfortunately, his mother’s body couldn’t absorb medicine, so there was nothing we could do."
Chen Qing cupped his hands in a respectful gesture.
"If I may be so bold to ask, Junior Brother Bai, what method did you use?"
’Beast Taming Peak breeds Demon Beasts, and the quality of the newborns is uneven; many also suffer from congenital defects.’
Bai Mo knew his intentions and said:
"I’m just using an Outer Pill to sustain her life. Without the Pill, she would die. Besides, the cost is exorbitant. I’m afraid it’s not suitable for Beast Taming Peak..."
