Chapter 4916 Devotion That Transcends
[Year Twelfth of the Covenant, Eleventh Month.
The Covenant was broken, and dear husband attempted to breakthrough in the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm and successfully broke through to the Empyrean Stage amidst the furious gazes of the Venerable Knights and the Supreme One before retreating without suffering a single injury.]
Natalya saw what she wrote and nodded with satisfaction written all over her face.
*Ssss~*
However, the scroll before her was yet again burned by annihilative heavenly flames. Pouting, she blew on the flaming scroll, causing a strange cyan lotus to bloom before the fire was put out.
Waving her hand nonchalantly, she continued writing, taking out a new scroll and dipping the brush in the ink.
She wrote the same content again.
Burned.
She took out a new scroll and wrote again.
Burned yet again.
"Natalya, stop… it's enough… you're putting the family in danger…"
Evelynn's voice echoed solemnly.
She and others could only watch her helplessly.
Natalya turned to look at them, a faint gleam flickering in her black eyes.
"This family doesn't serve any purpose if he were to be gone."
"You- fanatic..." Evelynn clenched her teeth, "Think about Eden!"
She yelled to make her come to her senses.
"…"
Natalya turned to look away and continued brushing.
"…!" Evelynn's pupils quivered.
She could tell Natalya was so into it that she lost sight of protecting the family at this moment, and the heavenly tribulation was also reacting to her written words as though warning her each time. However, Evelynn also wanted Davis to survive, so she was helpless to react to Natalya's actions.
It wasn't like the writing was going to change anything, but Evelynn was hopeful that anything helps at this point.
The tribulations clouds looming above seemed more terrifying than ever. She could barely maintain her aura since she was also a Divergent, with it affecting her more than normal. The suppression bore down on her soul. Her breathing was also ragged, sweat forming over the forehead and dripping.
"Aaa~"
The children were afraid, brought out of the hall into another chamber hurriedly.
Isabella and Shirley returned, trying to convince Natalya, but she no longer paid any heed.
*Gasp~*
Suddenly, they saw Natalya gasp.
Evelynn and the others nearly had a heart attack when they saw Natalya shed tears.
"I saw husband… I was with him… I helped him…"
She looked up at the heavens through the windows, shedding tears of joy.
"Heavens, what do you think about our devotion to each other!? Don't you know you won't ever succeed in wiping him off when I'm there for him!? Hahahaha!"
*Bang!~*
A bolt of negative five-colored lightning struck Natalya right in her face, her soul. Instantly, her entire body was charred black, her skin split, and her hair burned. The scent of charred meat filled the chamber, smoke rising upward.
"Natalya!!!"
Evelynn roared, her expression horrified.
She shot towards her without any concern for her own well-being and appeared before her, stopping her from falling back as she held the charred body. The heat set her own arms ablaze, the scent of flesh burning plain to inhale, nearly making her senses disoriented.
Isabella stood motionless, lips parted, eyes hollow.
Shirley's hands trembled violently.
Their world seemed to have split open in a single heartbeat.
Evelynn's lips quivered.
"Natalya… no… no… this can't be…"
Evelynn's arms burned, but she paid no heed to the searing pain as she held Natalya, tears flooding her eyes and falling on Natalya's cheeks.
She squealed, her voice barely audible as she cried out.
Trembling, she turned to look at the skies, her eyes painting a vengeful gaze as she clenched her teeth.
"Heavens, I-"
Abruptly, two hands appeared before her, closing her eyes and her mouth.
"Azariel! Take your hands off me!"
"Ma! Shut up and be quiet! I'm begging you!"
Azariel hugged his mother from behind as he sent her a soul transmission. His eyes were also moist, and his expression unsightly as he didn't let his mother face the heavens. He also shielded her body if a strike were to land, his six spider legs forming a defensive barrier, yet he knew it wouldn't be of any use.
He didn't think he would lose one of his mothers like this, but it happened. The unthinkable happened, and he wasn't prepared to let his mother, Evelynn, die, holding her with his life.
"Aaah~"
Evelynn collapsed into his hold, sobbing, clutching Natalya's lifeless form against her chest. Her tears soaked the blackened remains. Her breath came jagged, broken, each inhale scraping into her heart, causing her unbearable pain.
Isabella and the others were still shocked beyond compare, unable to comprehend the situation. One heartbeat ago, Natalya had been writing. Now she lay scorched and still; their minds couldn't keep up with this reality.
Why?
Why would Natalya go against the heavens? Why was there a need to? Why defy the heavens so openly right under its nose?
*Rumble!~*
The heavenly tribulation clouds rumbled above them angrily, but almost equally, they felt their souls burn in anger.
Abruptly, they saw the brush on Natalya's charred hand rise.
It moved to the empty scroll and began to etch.
[You want my life? Take it. I will give you my everything. I shall lose my sight until he returns to my side. I shall lose my taste until I feel his tongue. I shall lose my smell until I inhale his scent. I shall lose my hearing until I hear his voice. I shall lose all sensation until I feel his touch. I shall lose my cultivation until I dual-cultivate with him. I shall lose my memories until he holds me tightly. My senses, my emotions, my life. Take them all if you can. I will exist as a wisp even if my soul and body were to be vanquished, everlasting within his soul. You can never end him. Therefore, you will never separate me from him.]
Azariel and the others were dumbfounded. He slowly moved his hand away from his mother's eyes and mouth, letting her see this incredulous situation.
This brush…
"Natalya…?" Evelynn echoed, her voice filled with disbelief and her face stained with tears.
The brushed finished the final stroke. It hovered for a breath before abruptly dropping to the desk, making a 'clack' sound that woke nearly everyone up from their reverie.
Still, they could only read the contents of the scroll that glowed faintly with ethereal light.
They were reminded of something. They were going against the heavens the moment they married Davis. In this regard, Natalya had far surpassed them in her actions, yet the consequences were as tragic as ever, making them tremble.
"Second sister!"
Shirley broke free from her stupor, instantly picking up the brush. She looked over, instantly wanting to perform a reincarnation technique on the brush that might carry Natalya's remnant soul from the power of her sheer Will. She didn't know if it would work, but she had nine lives, so she didn't care.
Everlight also came back after hearing the commotion, her gaze horrified.
Without asking anything, she instantly understood the situation. She tried to actively commence the resurrection from her azure orb in one of her nine tail which carried a bit of Natalya's soul essence, not minding the huge karmic burden that would fall on her.
"…!"
However, both of them stopped at the same time.
They seemed to have frozen as they looked at the charred body that Evelynn held.
The charred body in Evelynn's arms shifted ever so lightly as ashes flaked away, blackened skin lightened, cracked flesh smoothed over, revealing her bare skin.
From head to toe, it was magically reconstructed as though she had never been struck by the punishment lightning. Her pale white skin regained its luster while her hair flowed like silk once more. Even the faint scent of char receded, replaced by the subtle fragrance she always carried.
Evelynn's arms trembled as she stared down at her second sister. Warmth returned beneath her palms even though it still pained her since her arms were scorched. She didn't mind as she felt Natalya's breath stir faintly against her face.
She closed her eyes, tears silently streaming down her face as she placed her forehead against hers and hugged her firmly.
Isabella and the others couldn't believe their eyes. This was their… Natalya…?
At the same time, footsteps echoed loudly from the entrance.
Tia appeared. Her expression shifted rapidly- shock, disbelief, cold focus, and then calculation. She forced herself to calm down and surveyed the scene.
She looked over to the burned ashes of the scrolls, the remnant energy of heavenly lightning that was unlike anything she had ever seen but felt painfully reminded of as her heart ached, the contents on the scroll that seemed to be glowing as though it couldn't be torn, the ink on the quill that didn't seem ordinary but one used in divinations to peer through the veil of the heavens… everything clicked in her mind.
Tia's pupils constricted before as her gaze remained on the contents of the scroll before her lips parted slightly, "This… is a Heavenly Restriction Pact…"
========
Davis stared at the scroll that Evelynn gave to him, his expression trembling as he read what was supposedly called the Heavenly Restriction Pact.
"You said that she had only lost her vision?" He mechanically turned to look at Evelynn.
"..."
"..."
Davis kept staring, his sapphire eyes turning cold as they felt an insane amount of pressure falling on them.
Even Illumina felt her breath hitch.
"..." Evelynn took a deep breath, "Tia said it is dangerous for you two to meet. Everything Natalya lost could return, or she might become a part of your soul as her existence shatters, so I dared not mention this matter upon your return and hasten you. Please calm your rage and bring back our Natalya, our second sister, no matter the cost."
She went down on her knees, ashamed that she couldn't protect Natalya.
'If I were only stronger and more firm...' she closed her eyes, tears dangling over her eyelashes.
Davis clenched his fists as his pupils dilated.
How could he be enjoying a banquet while his Natalya was like this!? And his wives... their laughter, their smiles, their satisfied expressions while feasting, was everything fake!?
There was no way everyone would've acted that spectacularly, enough to fool him, so he took a deep breath and controlled himself.
"Did Tia seal everyone's memories except yours?"
"Yes." Evelynn still had her head lowered, "I just released Isabella and Shirley's seal."
Davis panned his gaze and saw even Fiora was shocked, unaware that her sister went through a great deal instead of just failing in some kind of experiment and becoming incurable even with Everlight's powers.
