Chapter 5086 This Won't Happen Next Time?
City Lord Davis looked at the fourth wife- not his wife, but she sure did recognize him as City Lord Kain without a single hint of doubt.
His first thought was that he could commit so many bad things with this, leaving him feeling chilled to the core, but as his Heart Intent encompassed her, he began to sense her emotions.
She was aggrieved, angered, sad, and felt pitiful, none of which felt false.
The emotions surging from her heart were chaotic yet painfully sincere. There was grievance buried beneath years of neglect, anger hidden beneath restraint, and sadness so deep that it almost caused Davis to frown. Yet beneath all of that, there was still attachment.
A foolish, stubborn attachment.
Even now, after being treated as a bargaining chip to please another man, she still loved City Lord Kain.
City Lord Davis had his hands behind his back and raised his chin slightly while adopting a stern face, copying City Lord Kain's mannerisms before walking over to her.
Rianna immediately straightened her posture.
Her eyes carried both nervousness and anticipation. Even her breathing became softer, as though she feared displeasing him with the slightest sound. The elegant woman who likely held great authority outside seemed to shrink emotionally in front of the man she loved.
"Indeed, I called you here to confirm one thing."
"Is it my misunderstanding, or did you really cheat on our relationship?"
Davis firmly asked, but he felt weirded out and uncomfortable. Not only did City Lord Kain tell this woman today that she could be handed over to the Saint in return for finally increasing his virility, but also kept her away from him, refusing to meet her.
"No!" Rianna's response came instantly.
Her captivating sapphire pupils trembled violently.
The color drained from her face as though she had just been stabbed in the chest. Her lips parted slightly while panic spread across her expression.
"This Rianna has never cheated. I have never looked at another man that way, please believe me…"
Her voice quivered toward the end.
The proud elegance she barely maintained collapsed completely as she hurried forward. Her eyes had already turned red from emotion.
"My Lord, back then, we fought together, raising havoc on the other races and even killing asura monsters… and swore to be together… do you remember…? If it's for your health, I'm willing to sacrifice my virtue, but… I have never been unfaithful in our relationship. Please believe me."
Every word she spoke carried desperation.
City Lord Davis could even sense fragments of memory within her emotions, which resonated with the memories he garnered from City Lord Kain.
Bloody battlefields, their backs pressed together, a young Kain laughing loudly after victory before carrying her away after she was injured.
An oath exchanged beneath a bloody sky.
Rianna's love had clearly not been built from superficial affection. That was what made her current pain feel even heavier.
"I… I believe you." City Lord Davis said, nearly faltering with his act.
The moment those words entered her ears, Rianna's eyes widened.
There was disbelief, relief, and even joy.
Those emotions surged out so strongly that even Davis was startled. He saw her shoulders tremble lightly as tears nearly spilled from her eyes. He could sense that she felt deeply moved because she had been longing to hear these words of trust for over thousands of years.
"I know… I can't prove it, but you must believe me. My Lord, I'll take the first step…"
Rianna knelt in front of him, causing Davis to inwardly sigh.
"You don't need to knee-"
His words stopped halfway as he saw Rianna start untying his belt, quickly trying to undress him. Her hands were hurried and trembling slightly. She looked anxious, almost afraid he would change his mind if she did not immediately please him.
At the same time, there was longing hidden in her expression. A longing to regain intimacy.
City Lord Davis was stunned but quickly captured her wrists, "Stop, stop…"
Rianna froze.
Her soft hands trembled within his grip as she looked up at him in confusion.
"My Lord, let us remember our passion…!" Her voice sounded pleading now.
"!@#$%^&*!"
Davis nearly cursed. He hurriedly pushed her away and started tying up his belt, "What are you doing? We still have to meet the Saint today."
"My Lord!" Rianna looked betrayed.
The hurt in her eyes was immediately obvious. Her expression paled slightly as though she thought he still intended to hand her over.
"No, you don't have to entertain him. Leave him to me."
"Really…?"
"Really. You really don't have to entertain that unsavory saint. Just go to sleep…"
Davis waved his hand, dismissing her as City Lord Kain would.
Rianna lowered her head. For a moment, she simply stood there silently, her lips curling slowly as though she was relieved.
"My Lord, Rianna will forever be faithful to you."
Her eyes glistened beautifully as she spoke those words.
"Wait…"
"You have to be careful of one of your sisters."
"Who?"
City Lord Davis didn't respond. He flicked his sleeves vainly and walked away.
Rianna stood up and bowed elegantly, "Then I'll take my leave. I'll look forward to meeting you again, my lo-ve~"
"Hehehe~"
The fourth wife ran away from the bedroom daintily, causing Davis's expression to look more awkward than ever as he turned to look at her.
'A pity… your husband is dead, and Steward Belmont flawlessly framed you to keep the true affair partner hidden. As expected of a Heart Intent expert…'
The Steward also aided in the City Lord's wrongdoings, so Davis didn't doubt this could be sabotage. It was unlikely for someone who had comprehended Heart Intent to stay underneath forever, even if they were loyal. It could be said to be an occupational disease unless they have good control over it and aren't ambitious.
Besides, the Steward's loyalty could've taken a hit since City Lord Kain was increasingly turning worse.
Nonetheless, he wasn't worried for Rianna since she would try to kill him if she knew he killed her husband and even played with his identity, as it was probably worse than digging a grave and possessing a corpse.
Davis believed that his act of karmic impersonation was worse than defiling a grave, but he would still do it again if the need arises!
"Haha, my dear, this won't happen next time."
Davis coughed as though talking to someone. His expression kept changing as though he was trying to explain himself to the air.
It was as though he was mentally affected by the karmic impersonation.
A few minutes later, he nearly threw his hands up in surrender as he looked at the doors open and saw a beauty enter.
"Alright, I won't explain myself anymore. This is clearly not my fault but City Lord Kain's fault, okay?"
"Mmph~ Just hug her to bed and have fun. I don't care anymore."
"Evelynn~ My dear Evy~ Nothing matters more than your mental state. As long as you say the word, I'll drop all this and come back to you, I swear."
Davis echoed out in his soul sea.
"Wicked rogue~"
Evelynn voiced out as she sat in the hall, her expression tinged with amusement, barely able to hide her gleeful smile while her third eye remained open. She fiddled with her purplish-red hair by the side of her head so much that she formed twisted strands like she was knitting braids.
Clearly, she was having fun teasing Davis.
