Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5319: A Wrong Match?

Chapter 5319: A Wrong Match?

Thamana Deuce stilled for a second but cupped her hands more firmly, "Your Majesty, I wish nothing but to be of service to Young Master Noctis. This life had been saved by him, so this body and soul of mine belong to him. That’s how serious I am about him. Should he discard me, I choose to accept. Should he want me, then I, Thamana Deuce, will do everything in my power to please him, even if it means being a servant by his side."

"Thamana..." Noctis’s gaze flickered as he uttered softly.

He didn’t know if her emotions still ran deep towards him after that incident. After all, he was well aware of what kind of woman she was. He was no clueless man, as he had seen plenty of girls who wanted to get in his good graces.

Davis nodded.

He felt like he had gained a full understanding of this woman before him.

Opportunistic, smart, and business-minded, or in other words, calculating. However, her emotions towards Noctis seemed to be genuine. He guessed that Noctis was most likely her first meeting of having an encounter with her own genuine emotions.

He did hear she had lost her entire family in an incident during the Desolate Era, so all that latent fondness, softness, and affection had all transferred to Noctis. In a way, he was the anchor that tied her to this world, a kind of hope that kept her emotions ablaze instead of going cold.

Still, he could sense that this woman was innately calculative. He cast a gaze at Noctis, wondering if he would be able to deal with such a woman.

If he had to compare, he would put her on par with Mingzhi and Yilla, not by skill but by their calculating minds. Zenova would be one step above them.

"You are still young." Davis said with a cold smile, "It’s not good to speak about serving someone your entire life when you could easily break it. My Davis Family values words a lot. Since you say your body and soul are my son’s, should he refuse to accept you, why not commit suicide then? Why are you still seeking a way out?"

"...!?"

Noctis shot a look at his father, unable to believe that his father would ask something like that. After all, his father’s most liked word was none other than ’reasonable’.

How was this reasonable?

Lyra Mistwalker’s eyes squinted but still watched in silence. She silently cursed Davis for doing the same thing as any Heart Intent user would do: test people until the resolve they thought was true broke. Many Enigmatic Heart Law users took great joy in breaking people. It was no secret.

The way they improve their intent was to explore human emotions, after all. But it wasn’t strictly restricted to humans since Heart Intent was indeed capable of sensing emotions from various lifeforms.

Nonetheless, Thamana Deuce herself should have no clue about what Heart Intent is, much less know that her lover’s father has it.

She didn’t know if her personal disciple was going to be doomed or not.

Thamana Deuce herself looked taken aback by this question before she recollected herself and answered.

"I believe this life that had been saved by Young Master Noctis’s hands should not go to waste. Should he refuse me, I will step back, but only a single step, since I will work hard to gain his favor even more. Coming here, I have only two goals: to improve my alchemy capabilities and improve my cultivation, but pursuing Young Master Noctis is my life’s goal to attain happiness. I ask Your Majesty to grant me a chance to prove myself!"

Thamana Deuce said with a shaken voice before she lifted her hands all the way up and kowtowed again.

Noctis gazed at Thamana Deuce with a complicated gaze.

It was his first time hearing someone say that pursuing him connected to their happiness.

"Father, I"

Just as he turned to look at Davis, he saw him smiling amusedly.

"Astute and well-spoken. As a daughter-in-law, I can’t find fault with your words."

Davis said with a satisfied nod before he shot a look at his son, "What about you? Do you want her or are you going to discard her?"

"..."

Thamana Deuce raised her head with some elation at being acknowledged but then gazed at Noctis.

Noctis stood straight and cupped his hands, kneeling, "Father, I wish to take Thamana Deuce as my primary wife."

"...!"

Thamana Deuce shot a look at him. Noctis also turned to look at her when he sensed her gaze.

The two of them seemed to connect, making Davis blink.

"How is that possible?" Davis scoffed, "For the crime of seducing you, she cannot start as a principal wife. Therefore, she would be considered the third wife and climb her way through contributions to you and the family if the spots are empty. You would not need her permission to marry other women until she reaches the status of the first wife. If she agrees, she’d only be at your mercy for many years to come."

Noctis’s jaw dropped, "Father, that-"

"I agree!" Thamana Deuce instantly declared as she struck her bosom, "I don’t want the seat of primary wife. I will be satisfied with the seat of the third. I do not wish to take Young Master Noctis’s privileges away from him. I only want to remain by his side and make him happier."

"..." Noctis went stupefied.

She was still repeating that nonsense?

He had seen so many people. How could she not be selfish? He didn’t believe it, but her passion towards him couldn’t be anymore clear.

On the other hand, Davis honestly wanted to advice to his son that he wouldn’t find another woman like this, someone who would keep him happy at the cost of her sanity and the others, but obviously, it was going to bring problems. In his opinion, it was up to the husband to keep the wife sane when it came to this issue, so Noctis needed to be with her.

He had also kept Mingzhi and Zenova in line and would put them in their place if the need arose. Mingzhi had been a sorry mess in the beginning, where she hadn’t come to terms with him killing her father but also loving him too much, making her emotions sway wildly. The same could be said about Zenova, who wouldn’t have hesitated to remove all his wives if he had been a bit weaker and mind-controlled him all the way down the rabbit hole.

There was no other way than to play tackle with some women and parry their insanity.

It was just the way it was, where yang needed to force down its might and make the encompassing yin, trying to swallow everything, much calmer. On the other hand, if the yin was calm, the yang would misbehave. It was an eternal problem.

Davis could only imagine how well Noctis could tame her and vice versa.

His Noctis was an honest, reliable mountain, and the daughter-in-law a calculating alchemy master.

’They seem good in terms of compatibility...’

He inwardly nodded, and since Nadia also approved and didn’t seem to regret her decision much, he stood up and said.

"In three years, the two of you will get married if you still like each other. Until then, it’s a test of time. It’s just been a few weeks since the two of you met. Let’s see if your passionate emotions are like fleeting clouds or a blazing volcano in half a year. If it’s still blazing, then you two can meet each other."

"...!"

Thamana Deuce was about to kowtow again and give her thanks, but a wave of soul force raised her up.

"If you desire to be a daughter-in-law of the Davis Family, keep your status in mind and act with grace. There’s no need to kowtow to me or anyone else, but you will still repent through kneeling whenever you see one of my wives, for you have disappointed them."

Davis didn’t look at Thamana Deuce.

He grabbed Noctis’s shoulder and hovered lightly as though he was about to leave.

"Wait- wait- wait!~"

Lyra Mistwalker hurriedly appeared before Davis to stop him.

It made Davis stop as he frowned. In the end, he chose to descend and hear out this brilliant alchemist whom their family was in need of. Her talent in alchemy was only second to Dalila, after all.
