Chapter 5383: The Frightened Bird Wakes Up
"All things considered, please take care of Aris and Xinyi after we leave. They respect your children and have them as their goal." Drake’s tone changed.
"..." Davis was taken aback before nodding, "Naturally, Aris and Xinyi are also like my children. I’ve played with them a lot during the vacation three to four years ago. Even if you die, I’ll take care of them, so you won’t need to worry about that. Still, are you taking your wives with you? That’s incredibly dangerous."
"Yeah, I intend to let them all have an artificial yin constitution that’s no different than the naturally forming one some of my wives have. I intend to gather such resources in the Eternal Frost Upper Realm in the far northwest, but I’ll try my chances in the Beast Autarch Upper Realm as well. It’s a huge trade port. Taming and nurturing magical beasts expends a huge amount of resources, so I heard that they have the highest imports from other realms from Mingzhi."
Davis pressed his hand over his forehead.
It was one thing for Drake to go by himself, but for him to take along his wives, that’s no longer courting death but courting tragedy.
He gritted his teeth, "This decision of yours really is suicidal, but you’re my fucking friend. Fuck... I’ll try to send someone with you."
"No need." Drake shook his head, "This time around, I intend to do everything by myself instead of relying on you."
"Don’t let ego affect you." Davis narrowed his eyes, "You think I’m doing everything by myself? I’m buried in debt of gratitude that I received from many others and really have a tough time paying it back. Even some of my World Hegemon Grade Treasures are gone..."
"Damn, that sounds so horrifying..." Drake shuddered with wide eyes, "Crazy to be letting go of such treasures I have no way to come across. Anyway, this is not ego. This is for my Will. Didn’t you recently release the secrets of Will to the allies? How can it grow if we keep relying on someone else, no matter if it is our father or a stranger?"
"..."
Davis turned speechless.
Indeed, he was the one who said the less they relied on others, the better the Will would improve. It was just one of many factors, so they didn’t need to follow it to the letter, but people who had always relied on others or were subordinated to a higher-up needed to change that.
"In the Divine Exalt Path, the Will defenses naturally grow, but it’s up to you to increase it further. I wish you good luck then."
Davis sighed gently.
Drake nodded, "Still, Rocksunder and Zenflame agreed to come with me, though."
"Say that first." Davis raised his hand to punch.
Drake flinched as he laughed.
Davis put his hand down and nodded understandingly, "They’re the type to be adventurous and overcome odds, as they were heroes of their era. Makes sense. They’re extremely valuable allies and need time to grow, so don’t cause them to die."
He had wondered who to send with Drake and eventually thought of King’s son, the Ant Overlord.
He knew the other party was just a thin line away from breaking into the Exalt Stage since he was a Level Nine Empyrean who had even fought with a Venerable Knight and endured Calypsea’s flames for a bit. The only problem was his identity was already known, so it wouldn’t bode well if he was found out.
But since Drake said no, he dropped the matter.
He wouldn’t exactly call the Ant Overlord a trusted ally, as this lifeform was born to rule. If it wasn’t for Davis’s overwhelming prowess, the Ant Overlord wouldn’t bend his head to him. It was unknown if he would follow Drake.
"Naturally." Drake nodded.
The two discussed the specifics and other minor matters for a bit longer before bidding farewell.
Davis felt it was a bit unfortunate that he couldn’t see Aris and Xinyi, as they had gone adventuring outside with some of their mothers. Otherwise, he would’ve spent some time playing with them until Frostrose woke up.
He felt time was ticking, and his relationship with Frostrose would’ve spread across the estate by now.
If he didn’t provide an explanation fast, then he wouldn’t be able to comfort his wives.
Hence, he brought Frostrose to a beautiful river that shimmered beneath the moonlit night. The moon was bright, and there were nearly no clouds. He brought her out of his life ring and softly placed her on the sheet that he had placed beside a camp he had set up earlier.
"Wake up, my little birdie... why is it a huge shock for you? You really didn’t think you could hide it for an eternity, right? Or was being seen naked and dancing on me the problem?"
Davis nudged her cheeks with a finger.
Frostrose’s head swayed, but she didn’t seem to wake up.
"I’ll count to three. Don’t make me do it..."
Davis warned her after not getting a response.
"One..."
"Two..."
*Bzzz!~*
Placing a finger on her forehead, he generated ordinary lightning with his soul force, causing Frostrose to jolt as she sat up and slapped Davis’s entire figure with one side of her wing.
However, it was unable to move him. Instead, he embraced her wing and rubbed his face all over it.
"How soft..."
"..."
Frostrose’s cheeks burned as she felt tickled, but that wasn’t the problem here.
"It’s over. Flamerose is definitely going to know..." She uttered, her expression glazed with despair and guilt.
"Flamerose..."
Davis pulled his head out and blinked.
How could he say that Flamerose was the first one to see without causing her to go into shock again?
He remained silent.
Frostrose couldn’t even hear the sound of running water as her heart pounded loudly. Her eyes turned moist.
Davis grasped her cheek and comforted her, "So what if she knows? Is that enough to separate us?"
"I’m a bad twin sister." She sniffled as she shook her head, "I know Flamerose likes you, but I didn’t want her to have you because I wanted you all to myself. The reason I wanted to remain a mistress was because of this reason. I thought it was fine if everyone found out except Flamerose, but since Bing Luli knows, Flamerose would also come to know."
"Ah..."
Davis finally understood.
"I love you so much!~" Frostrose embraced him, leaning on his chest as she cried, "Flamerose and I promised to marry the same man when we were little and did again recently. We shared everything, but she always got the major share of everything we desired. I gave her everything and loved watching her smile, but for this matter, I wanted to have you all to myself even if it were just for a few decades. You were the tiny little secret I had all to myself~"
Davis caressed her as she cried her heart out.
Frostrose had been having the time of her life acting on her dark desires, but it was a betrayal to the bond the two twin sisters shared.
Naturally, she feared Flamerose finding out and completely antagonizing her, causing them to fall out.
Davis pursed his lips.
Ice Phoenixes were known to be cold and dignified, but they still followed propriety and would not involve themselves in acting on their dark desires. Certainly, her evolution into the Lunar Frostwing Phoenix had intrinsically changed some parts of her instincts. After all, when a beast evolves, not only would their mentality change, but even their habits would.
Nadia had gone from a wild and responsible wolf to a silent and dreadful wolf when she made the transition from a mountain wolf to a darkness wolf and then a death wolf.
He had seen her change so many times, and he liked every part of it.
It could be said the same for Frostrose. She had managed to invoke the highest order of temptation in him just by gazing at him with those icy yet sexy eyes. He loved her for it, so he had no intention to blame her for creating this mess.
Davis smilingly caressed her cheek, "Just say I desired you first and wanted to keep it a secret, so I forbade you from talking."
"I don’t want to lie..."
Frostrose shook her head. She didn’t lie. She had remained silent about their relationship status, not lied.
Davis chuckled lightly, "Alright, then we’ll go confess to Flamerose together and try to earn her forgiveness. How about that?"
"...!"
Frostrose shuddered. She raised her head to look at him with moist eyes, the moon reflected in her eyes shimmering like a pure lake rippling ever so lightly.
How could he say that so easily? Flamerose wasn’t the type to forgive betrayal. She knew if Flamerose found out, she’d cry her heart out for not spending their first night together. A promise that important, broken, was a bond that shattered.
Phoenixes took marriage very seriously, and Fire Phoenixes were passionate, and that hadn’t changed about Flamerose even after she became a Solar Emberwing Phoenix.
She was most afraid that Flamerose wouldn’t talk to her anymore and leave without even looking at her, as though her face was the most abhorrent in the world.
She clutched Davis’s arms, biting her lips, "Shirley... Call Shirley. Only she can mend our relationship since she shares a bond between us~"
She pleaded, causing Davis to nod, "They’re waiting."
"..."
Frostrose couldn’t help but shudder, feeling faint again.
It took some time for her to regain her strength before they left towards the estate.
