Chapter 2550: Officer Mei(2)

Chapter 2550: Officer Mei(2)

"Now then, before that person arrives, I want to see what you are capable of. I do not want to embarrass myself by recommending you," Officer Mei said as they entered the building. "If you are nowhere near good enough, I will simply cancel the appointment and save us all some time."

"You want to spar with me?" Yuan looked at her with a slightly surprised face.

"That’s what I said, no? Or is there a reason you don’t want to spar with me? Are you not confident in your abilities?" Officer Mei remarked with a provocative smile.

Yuan returned the smile and said, "Alright. Let’s do it."

"Come with me to the training room."

Yuan nodded and followed her into another room.

Although the villa itself was quite large, the training room was somehow several times bigger than the entire building, almost as though it existed within its own separate dimension.

"Don’t worry, I will try to match your strength to make things fair," Officer Mei said as they walked to the center of the spacious room. "That being said, your cultivation is a bit too low, and I might have trouble suppressing my strength to such an extent."

"I don’t mind even if you use a little more strength," Yuan calmly replied.

"..."

Officer Mei narrowed her eyes at him and asked, "Are you really going to fight in that outfit? I know it’s unique, but it’ll only hinder your own movements."

"I’m used to it, and I don’t have a suit like yours."

"Right... because you’re from another world..." she mumbled with a skeptical expression.

Yuan took a moment to stretch his body before beckoning to Officer Mei.

"Whenever you are ready," he said aloud.

In the very next instant, Officer Mei vanished from her spot like a ghost.

"!"

Although her speed caught him off guard, Yuan was still able to follow her movements. He swiftly raised his right hand beside his head, blocking Officer Mei’s leg strike just as it swept toward his face a split second later.

"Oh? You actually managed to block that? I intended on ending it with one strike, too." Officer Mei remarked after distancing herself from him. "You’re better than I expected."

"I could say the same for you..." Yuan responded, looking at the arm he had used to block her attack and feeling a slight numbness in it.

However, that numbness quickly faded when Yuan clenched his fist tightly.

"Let’s continue."

This time, Yuan made the first move.

’He’s fast!’

Officer Mei cried inwardly when she could barely follow Yuan’s movements, nearly getting hit in the gut.

Yet Officer Mei did not panic, merely adjusting her strength as they continued to exchange strikes.

’This guy is growing increasingly more powerful with each passing moment!’

It quickly became clear to Officer Mei that Yuan’s low cultivation was extremely deceptive, as he was displaying prowess that was beyond what someone at such a level should be capable of.

"Is something wrong?" Yuan suddenly asked as he continued his assault. "You are slowing down, Officer! Meanwhile, I am not even warmed up!"

Officer Mei gritted her teeth at his blatant provocation and began unleashing more of her strength, increasing the speed and intensity of her attacks at a more noticeable rate.

"That’s more like it!" Yuan laughed excitedly, as it had been a while since he could go all out against a fellow human without worrying about his opponent being too weak.

While their fight was intense enough to shake the building, neither of them was expending any energy, as their cultivation was still suppressed.

’How is he still keeping up?! I am already using the strength of a Third Ascension cultivator!’ Officer Mei cried inwardly, feeling dazed by Yuan’s unfathomable strength.

’Is this the power of the Perfected Heavenly Refinement?!’

A nervous smile tugged at Officer Mei’s lips as she realized just how ridiculous—and dangerous this discovery was.

"A-Alright, let’s stop here." Officer Mei eventually said, halting their spar.

"Are you sure? I was barely just getting started," Yuan said with a disappointed look on his face, clearly not satisfied with how suddenly it ended.

"I just wanted to see if you would be a waste of time. If you want to show off, do so during the real assessment," she sighed.

"Speaking of the assessment... where is she? She should have arrived by now—"

Officer Mei turned toward the exit, only to abruptly freeze as her eyes widened in shock.

"Hm?"

Yuan followed her gaze and was surprised to see a beautiful woman standing quietly by the entrance, her presence almost nonexistent, like a ghost.

"M-Mother! When did you arrive?" Officer Mei spoke aloud after snapping out of her daze.

"I have been here for a while," her mother calmly replied.

"In that case, why didn’t you say something?"

However, her mother did not respond. Her gaze was fixed on Yuan, just as his was fixed on her.

"Meifeng..." Yuan muttered in a low voice.

Although Yuan appeared surprised, he was not surprised in the slightest that Officer Mei—who resembled Meixiu—would have a mother who looked just like Meixiu’s real mother, Meifeng.

Without a word, the woman approached Yuan with calm and purposeful steps.

"So you are the one who claims to be from another world, huh? I came here thinking that my foolish daughter was being scammed, but now that I have seen you with my own eyes, you certainly seem... for lack of a better word, otherworldly."

"I’m Yuan," he introduced himself. "Are you the one who will help me join the military?"

"Not exactly," she replied. "I am here to assess your qualifications. And, if I take everything at face value, you have already failed. Not only is your cultivation weaker than that of most children, but your credential is only at Rank 1."

"With that being said, you have displayed prowess far beyond your cultivation’s capabilities, as well as possessing the Perfected Heavenly Refinement..."

The woman fell silent for a moment before continuing, "Anyway, recover your stamina for now. I am going to have a conversation with my daughter first."
