Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear

Chapter 807

807 Bear Went to See Flora-sama

The carriage stopped at a place I recognized.

It was a little far from the gate we always went through.

Ellelaura-san and I got off the carriage and started walking down the corridor to Flora-sama’s room.

I could find my way from here, so I asked Ellelaura-san, who was walking beside me, a question that had been on my mind.

“Ellelaura-san, are you sure it’s okay for you to be away from work?” (Yuna)

She looked at me, surprised at my words.

“I’m showing Yuna-chan around right now, aren’t I?” (Ellelaura)

As expected, she gave the exact answer I thought she would.

I gave up, thinking that no matter how much I asked her, it would not work.

“If the King scolds you later, don’t blame me.” (Yuna)

I didn’t want her to use me as an excuse for skipping work later.

“Fufu, thanks for worrying.” (Ellelaura)

I wasn’t worried about Ellelaura-san, I was worried about myself.

Well, if the king complained, she would probably just say that she had checked her work properly.

We then walked along the familiar path.

People who passed by bowed to Ellelaura-san.

Seeing things like this, I once again couldn’t help but think that Ellelaura-san was a great person.

Ellelaura-san and I arrived in front of Flora-sama’s room and knocked on the door, and opened it without waiting for a response.

Just like always.

When the door opened, I heard the surprised voice of Anju-san, who was taking care of Flora-sama.

“E-Ellelaura-sama!?” (Anju)

“I’m sorry to bother you.” (Ellelaura)

Ellelaura-san said as she stepped into the room.

I couldn’t just stand in front of the door, so I went into the room with Ellelaura-san.

“Yuna-san as well.” (Anju)

Anju-san was surprised to see me, but her expression quickly returned to normal.

“Flora-sama, Yuna-san has come.” (Anju)

“Bear-san?” (Flora)

Flora-sama was sitting in a chair reading a book.

She smiled when she saw me, put down the book she was holding, and ran over to me.

“Flora-sama, how have you been?” (Yuna)

“I am fine.” (Flora)

She smiled broadly.

I patted Flora-sama’s head.

I wondered if it would be considered disrespectful to pat the head of a member of the royal family. But it was too late to think about it now.

Flora-sama seemed happy, so I didn’t think about it more.

“Flora-sama, were you reading a book?” (Yuna)

“Yes!” (Flora)

“Fufu, thanks to Yuna-chan’s picture book, she’s become interested in reading all sorts of other books.” (Anju)

I felt a little happy when she said that Flora’s enthusiasm was thanks to my picture book.

“Flora-sama, you are doing great.” (Yuna)

Flora-sama looked happy when I praised her.

“Bear-san, do you have a new picture book?” (Flora)

“Sorry, I don’t have any new picture books right now.” (Yuna)

She looked a little disappointed at what I said.

I should have drawn one in advance for her.

But I had no plans to visit the castle, and I’d been busy lately, so I hadn’t thought of a new story for the picture book yet.

“Flora-sama, don’t trouble Yuna-chan too much.” (Ellelaura)

“…Okay.” (Flora)

Flora-sama nodded at Ellelaura-san’s words.

In the manga and novels I read, many royals tended to cry and act selfishly, and then force people to do what they wanted.

Unlike the spoiled royals I’d read about in manga and novels, Flora-sama really was well-raised and didn’t act selfishly.

I thought for a moment about what I could do for Flora-sama.

“… That’s right. Shall I draw a picture for you?” (Yuna)

“A picture for me?” (Flora)

I nodded, taking out the cockatrice quill pen Mane-san had given me.

“Are you going to draw a bear?” (Flora)

“It’ll take a while, but is that okay?” (Yuna)

“Yeah, I will be fine.” (Flora)

Flora-sama’s smile returned.

I prepared to draw.

It would be tiring for Flora-sama to stand all the time, and I couldn’t have a princess sit on the floor, so I had to ask her to sit on a chair.

Anju-san prepared paper and an easel for me out of nowhere.

“Flora-sama, please sit on the chair.” (Yuna)

Flora-sama sat down obediently.

“Is this okay?” (Flora)

“Just stay still for a little while.” (Yuna)

Flora-sama did as she was told, staying still, and looking at me.

Maybe she had experience of being drawn before.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the King had portraits of his adorable daughter made.

I took my cockatrice quill and started drawing Flora-sama.

First, I drew an outline in black.

It had been a while since I last drew a portrait of someone, but my hand moved naturally as I drew Flora, just like when I was painting Sakura and the others in the Land of Wa.

As expected, I couldn’t paint in a solid color, so I just drew lines.

The hair color was light pink.

I discovered that if I adjust the red color, it becomes light pink.

I drew while fine-tuning my magic. This was surprisingly difficult. But once I got used to it, I could create subtle colors.

The hair accessory was green, and the clothes were mainly white and green.

The dangling shoes were also green.

“Are you done, Bear?” (Flora)

“Almost there.” (Yuna)

Gradually, as if she could not stay still any longer, her body started to move.

Well, since I was almost done, it was no problem if she moved a little.

And then the picture was complete.

“It’s done.” (Yuna)

I turned the easel so that Flora-sama could see it.

“It’s me.” (Flora)

On the canvas, Flora-sama was smiling and looking in the direction of the viewer.

“We will need a frame to display it.” (Anju)

I was glad that she treasured it, but it was a little embarrassing to imagine it being framed and hung up.

Well, I think it would be displayed in this room, so I think it was fine since only a select few could enter this room.

There was a slight problem with that select few, though…

Flora-sama looked at the picture with a happy expression.

If it made her happy, I was glad I drew it.

I glanced at the cockatrice quill.

I was getting used to using it.

I’d learned to make changes to the ink’s color with the subtle change in flow of magic power.

I was going to mention this to Ellelaura-san, that it might be good to use this cockatrice quill to draw picture books.

The only problem was… could it be copied?

“Ellelaura-san, can drawings made with this quill be duplicated?” (Yuna)

“If you mean reproduced, yes. Though it would still be clear which one’s the original.” (Ellelaura)

Ellelaura-san answered.

“Is that so? But wasn’t this designed to prevent counterfeits from being made?” (Yuna)

“Well, even if copies exist, they’re easy to tell apart.” (Ellelaura)

That made sense. To be honest, it would not matter if all but one of the picture books were copies.

My hand-drawn picture book would only be the one in the world and it would only belong to Flora-sama.

The copies would be like a famous artist’s painting printed from a printer.

If someone didn’t look at it in detail, they might not notice that it was a fake.

However, if they scrutinized it even a bit, they could tell apart the real and fake right away, so there was no problem.

That settled it. I could safely use the cockatrice quill for future picture books.

“Flora-sama, don’t you have something to say to Yuna-chan?” (Ellelaura)

Ellelaura-san said to Flora-sama as if to hint her.

Flora-sama looked at the picture, then looked at me.

“Um, thank you, Bear-san.” (Flora)

“You’re welcome. I’d be happy if you treated it with care.” (Yuna)

“Yes, I will!” (Flora)

Her beaming smile made the whole thing worth it.

“Ellelaura-san, do you also help teach Flora-sama?” (Yuna)

“Only when I notice things. There are not many people who can correct a princess, so I do it when I can.” (Ellelaura)

“That’s why she has grown up to be such a good girl like Noa and Shia.” (Yuna)

“Oh, what a nice thing to say.” (Ellelaura)

Ellelaura-san looked happy when I praised her daughters.

After that, we decided to have a late lunch.

Normally, the food would have already been brought, but Anju-san had stopped it.

Apparently, it was under Ellelaura-san’s instruction so as not to interrupt my painting.

I was busy painting so I didn’t even notice how much time had passed.

“Yuna-chan,” “Bear-san.” (Ellelaura, Flora)

Ellelaura-san and Flora-sama looked at me after calling my name as if expecting something. In other words, this had become a normal thing here.

I wondered what I should prepare.

I thought for a moment.

“Would you like to eat soba noodles?” (Yuna)

“Soba noodles?” (Flora)

“Is it something like udon noodles?” (Anju)

“Udon noodles? The one made from thin, kneaded wheat flour? It’s delicious.” (Ellelaura)

“Have you ever eaten them?” (Yuna)

“Yes.” (Ellelaura)

“Even though you’re a member of nobility?” (Yuna)

“Well, even nobles have at least tried them. But, I don’t think Flora-sama has tried them before, though.” (Ellelaura)

I then looked at Anju-san to confirm.

“As far as I know, I don’t think Flora-sama has ever tried them.” (Anju)

I see, I couldn’t imagine Zeref-san or any of the royal chefs making udon noodles.

“Well, shall we have udon noodles instead?” (Yuna)

“We can have udon noodles if we ask Zeref to prepare it. But I’m curious about what soba noodles will taste like.” (Ellelaura)

“It’s made from kneaded buckwheat flour, so it’s basically similar to udon noodles.” (Yuna)

As a result of this conversation, we decided to eat soba noodles.

I took out the fresh soba noodles I bought in the Land of Wa.

They were neatly packed in a small container, and were divided into individual portions.

And soba soup. This was also in a small container.

I had asked for the soup to be packed in this container at a delicious soba restaurant when I bought it.

“This is soba noodles. As you can see, it has a different color from udon noodles.” (Yuna)

Flora-sama stood on her chair, looking curiously at the noodles.

“Are we going to eat this?” (Flora)

“Just wait a moment while I prepare it.” (Yuna)

I took out two portable stoves.

They had fire magic stones embedded in them, and were convenient magical tools to use outside.

They were sold normally in shops.

This may have been made by someone from the Ministry of Magic a long time ago.

I filled a pot with water and boiled the soba noodles in it.

On the other stove, I heated up the soba soup.

When both were ready, I put the noodles and soup into a bowl, and finally added chopped spring onions on top.

Oops, I almost forgot to do that.

I served the prepared tempura on a separate plate.

Making tempura for one person was a lot of work, so I made them in bulk and stored it in advance.

As long as I stored it in my bear box, it would not go bad, and I could eat it whenever I want.

Some people like their tempura crispy, and others moist, so I let them pick whichever they preferred.

And with that, our meal was ready.
