Chapter 7423 Super-Destroyer System
Ves grew happy with the initial results.
The modules he cobbled together in a hurry may be unrefined to the extreme, but they held up well enough to prove that his solution worked!
The Elegant Cut was able to cut through solid matter with the same ease as a tier 9 or a tier 8 Destroyer weapon!
Even though its overall performance still remained within the range of a 'measly' low-tier Destroyer weapon, Ves still considered this to be a major breakthrough!
By artificially inducing the doubling effect on the Destroyer particles locked inside the blade on a brief and intermittent basis, Ves was able to enhance the lethality of the Elegant Cut!
This was quite impressive considering that the dress sword possessed very low concentration of Destroyer particles compared to other genuine Destroyer weapons.
The modified Elegant Cut managed to punch above its weight not once, but a dozen times!
Ves did not settle with a single empowered attack. He repeated the same moves, but quickly had to stop when he noticed that the repeated overloads had caused the blade to become damaged and lose its mirror-like shine.
"Damn, that happened faster than I expected."
He already predicted that activating this mode would cause the surrounding structure to incur damage, but the material composition of the blade was so weak and thin that it lost its integrity too quickly.
Well, it was not like it could hold out for long. The weapon had not been designed to endure this degree of localized spatial disturbances.
The blade also could not withstand the increased discharge of destroyer particles for the same reasons.
Ves grew more dissatisfied with the Elegant Cut.
That was not to say he thought that Senior Smith Jiesera Dostoevskaya had dropped the ball. She fulfilled the requirements of her commission exactly according to its minimum requirements.
He just felt disappointed that she had so little room to work with that she had been unable to expand the buffer of the Elegant Cut.
The slender blade lacked redundancies that enabled it to withstand elevated stresses.
This turned the Elegant Cut into a weapon performed well under normal circumstances, but could easily fall apart as soon as it was used to resist forces beyond normal calculation.
"I can't accept this weakness."
If he wanted to overhaul the Elegant Cut to turn it into a suitable companion and defender for his child, then he had to make sure to beef it up and enable it to endure much greater forces.
As Ves proceeded to examine the damage to the blade, he gained a greater understanding of the effects of his latest innovation.
His overall conclusion was that the initial implementation worked in principle, but had an enormous amount of room for improvement!
The new amplification gadget spilled lots of destructive energies into useless directions, thereby going to waste.
The fact that a significant proportion of released energies ended up damaging the Destroyer-resistant materials of the weapon itself meant that Ves had to pay a lot more attention to channeling the additional output!
Ves loosely estimated that the new mechanism ultimately reached an effectiveness of just 20 percent if he was being optimistic.
In other words, the amplification to the Elegant Cut could have been 4 times greater if he eliminated all of the waste!
Reaching this ideal was impossible, but he should be able to make ample progress so long as he invested serious time into further development and optimization.
"I might not have enough time to tinker so much with this new invention." He frowned.
The main problem was not its effectiveness.
Considering the noticeable differences in lethality between the two versions of the Elegant Cut, he had no reason to doubt the value of his latest design application.
What he truly felt bothered with was that his latest invention represented an encroachment on a branch of technology that had always been claimed by the Terran people.
If a citizen of the Greater Terran United Confederation and the Terran Alliance came up with this innovation and made use of it, nobody would kick up a fuss.
It had become an established truth that the Terrans had staked their claim on Destroyer technology.
This was not an idle boast, but a real convention that was backed up with deeds, not just words.
No matter how much Ves had improved his relations with the Terrans, what he did had definitely crossed the line.
Friends did not casually infringe on each other's trade secrets!
At the very least, exposure could inflict serious damage on their supposed 'friendship'!
Ves was not naive to think that he could keep his clandestine experimentation a secret forever.
Secrets had a way of slipping out of one's grasp at inopportune moments.
Still, that did not deter him from continuing to make use of what he made. The power boost was too great for him to ignore. It could have made a huge difference in the last few battles. He would be a fool to set it aside just because the Terrans had a habit of being overly territorial when it came to this particular subject.
Nonetheless, Ves decided to make an effort to be discreet with his early implementations of this new tech.
Since this was still in early development, he decided to hold himself back from implementing it onto the Withering Sting.
This was his other self's flagship weapon. The Dark Apostle would definitely grow upset if Ves converted his greatest offensive reliance into an unstable testbed! He needed more time to analyze the data, reflect on the initial implementation and devise proper improvements.
For now, it should be sufficient to apply a very rudimentary upgrade to a weapon that he could afford to lose.
"Oh, I still have my Murder Knife Mark II."
He almost forgot about this D-arm.
Ketis had reforged it into a proper 3x scale weapon rather recently.
However, the Dark Apostle probably would not have an opportunity to make serious use of it given that the Withering Sting was a better option in most situations.
The Murder Knife Mark II only served as a sidearm and a weapon of last resort to the phase lord. The Dark Apostle lacked the skill and enthusiasm to wield it as his primary armament.
Of course, that did not mean that he was inept if he had to resort to this option.
If the Larkinsons encountered fairly competent but controllable opponents during the upcoming campaign, then that should be a good opportunity for his other self to test the effectiveness of this new weapon system.
"Let's do it." He decided.
Ves retrieved the Murder Knife Mark III and began the process of upgrading it into an experimental product.
This was not as simple as it sounded as it was a D-arm.
Fortunately, it was not as violent and difficult to tame as more serious D-mechs and D-arms such as the Riot Mark III and the Bitter Scimitar.
Though Ves was forced to increase the bulk of his weapon, it still remained a fairly light and handy weapon in the hands of a phase lord of 3x scale.
For safety's sake, he also made it so that the Dark Apostle could easily rip out the core module if it ever acted up or threatened to do more harm than good.
Ves did not test his creation after he completed the experimental upgrade. He did not want to surrender his body to his other self so soon and did not want to attract unneeded attention.
"I will be able to test this weapon soon enough." He predicted. "There are plenty of enemies on the other side of the border. I will not lack for test subjects in a target-rich environment."
The modified Murder Knife was a substantially different weapon from the Elegant Cut.
The most obvious change was that the former was not a Destroyer weapon.
Nonetheless, Ves predicted that he could still manage to enhance its cutting power by a small to moderate margin just by installing an altered version of his initial creation!
The biggest difference was that instead of relying on stimulating a whole bunch of Destroyer particles, Ves only chose to stimulate two Destroyer particles that he originally extracted from the Elegant Cut.
He briefly thought about stuffing the particles back into the fancy dress sword, but thought better of it. The weapon still performed well enough so Ves did not think it was worth the effort.
It was better to employ them in a different experiment that could potentially yield a lot of valuable empirical data.
As Ves wrapped up his lengthy experimental session, he began to sit down behind a terminal and began to organize the current data and write up his initial report.
After a brief moment of thinking, he chose to refer to his latest invention as the 'Super-Destroyer System' or SDS.
Though the name sounded rather basic, Ves could not come up with a more elegant alternative.
According to his current ideas, the SDS served as a bridge between superdimensional technology and Destroyer technology.
It may even serve as a launching point for a proper fusion between the two technologies in the future!
What mattered was that the SDS enabled Destroyer weapons to make use of superdimensional matter to enhance their lethality.
SDS also provided a way to enhance the deadliness of non-Destroyer weapons by making use of a tiny amount of Destroyer weapons!
"The latter is more troublesome than the former."
Stimulating a small amount of Destroyer particles normally produced a very weak effect that did not radiate far enough to matter beyond infantry-scale combat.
In order to make it more effective in large-scale combat between strike craft, warships and high-level combatants, the weapons needed to be made out of proper superdimensional alloys.
Inferior materials weren't durable enough to withstand the outburst of spatial disturbances!
This included most transphasic alloys!
This meant that SDS was effectively limited to Destroyer weapons and superdimensional weapons.
The most troublesome aspect about the new innovation was that even those weapons would be forced to pay a price by activating the SDS.
The new module essentially overloaded the functions of the high-tech weapons, causing them to perform way outside of their normal boundaries.
While the SDS should not struggle to amplify the performance of the aforementioned arms by 30 percent or greater, the excess power will inevitably damage their structure!
This meant that the weapons would return from the battlefield in a ragged and pitted condition. They most definitely require expensive repairs in order to bring them back up to standard.
The SDS also demanded a more literal price in the form of consumed superdimensional matter.
Depending on the specific implementation, the SDS's voracious hunger needed to be met with low-grade, mid-grade or in certain cases high-grade superdimensional matter!
Very few parties were willing to spend any gram of superdimensional matter for such a purpose.
